Reigning UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards addressed all the drama surrounding Ian Garry, including reports that he kicked the rising Irish contender out of his gym.

Garry has found himself as the talk for the town over the last few months, but seemingly for all the wrong reasons. It all started when ‘The Future’ made claims that he was kicked out of Team Renegade where Edwards trains because the champ was supposedly “weak-minded” and afraid of some competition on the mats. Particularly from a kid who is working his way up the divisional ladder.

Since then, a few fighters, including Sean Brady and Michael Chandler, have come out suggesting that Ian Garry’s conduct in the gym was the likely catalyst for his removal.

Addressing the drama directly, Leon Edwards suggested that the entire situation was blown out of proportion, but he did echo sentiments similar to that of Brady and Chandler.

“I feel like once he came to the gym, he just didn’t fit into the gym,” Edwards told MMA Fighting. “This is like the third gym now he’s been kicked out of. It is what it is. He’s just a different kind of guy. He’s hard to blend with. Everywhere he goes there’s a camera there. Everywhere he goes, his wife is there, his kid is there. There’s a lot going on.

“There wasn’t any bad blood. He came out and made it into a big thing and it wasn’t. He’s been kicked out of more gyms than mine. Like why are you making such a big deal out of it?”

‘Rocky’ has a pretty good idea as to why Ian Garry made such a fuss about the situation compared to other gyms he’s been booted from.

“Because I’m the champion he wants to ride off the back of my coattails and go back and forth with me on social media,” Edwards said. “It is what it is. You’ve got to focus on yourself.

“If he does get to the title — does he? I don’t know yet. That’s it. Wish him well. We’ll see what happens.”

Following Garry’s exit from the gym, Paddy Pimblett added some fuel to the fire when he claimed that ‘The Future’ had been knocked out by Edwards during their brief time training with one another. Rocky’ revealed that while he didn’t put Garry to sleep, he gave the Irishman a little taste of what’s to come should they ever meet inside the Octagon.

“I didn’t knock him out clean, no,” Edwards said. “He got a little taste [of the Kamaru Usman head kick] for sure.”

Leon Edwards Not concerning Himself with Ian Garry’s Rise up the ranks

Edwards and Garry will make their respective returns on Saturday night (December 16) at the promotion’s final pay-per-view of the year, UFC 296. ‘Rocky’ will look to defend the 170-pound crown for the second time when he meets perennial contender Colby Covington in the evening’s main event.

Garry will face his toughest test to date when he faces No. 8 ranked contender in the welterweight division, Vicente Luque.

Though ‘The Future’ enters UFC 296 with an impressive 13-0 record, six of those victories coming inside the Octagon, Leon Edwards isn’t concerning himself with a potential showdown between the two just yet.

“Skill-wise, he’s a long way away from even a thought in my brain for competing for a title,” Edwards said about Garry. “Like I said, I wish him well in his endeavors but I feel like skill-wise right now, he’s not a guy I think ‘Oh sh*t, I need to stay away from this guy.’”

Ian Garry fears for the Safety of his family heading into UFC 296: ‘I’m a little bit cautious about going to America’

Ian Garry is days away from the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts career.

On December 16, Ian Garry will return to the Octagon for a high-stakes welterweight clash with No. 8 ranked contender Vicente Luque. However, most of the headlines concerning Garry have had nothing to do with his upcoming clash. Instead, they’ve largely focused on the drama surrounding his wife and a curiously titled book she authored more than a decade ago.

With fans and fellow fighters slamming him on social media and in interviews, Garry is being very cautious as he travels to the U.S. for his seventh appearance with the promotion.

“I’m excited for UFC 296,” Garry said speaking to TNT Sports. “I think it’s a massive card. A card with all the big names, a lot of big matchups. I’m a little bit cautious about going to America for the safety of my family with all the sh*t that’s been going on online. To protect my wife, to protect my child, to protect myself.”

Last month, reigning UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland took aim at Garry, and his wife, Layla Anna-Lee, who wrote a guidebook teaching older women how to date young athletes and celebrities. The book in question, titled How to Be a WAG, was described by Anna-Lee as satirical, but Strickland wasn’t buying it.

Strickland dubbed Anna-Lee, who is 14 years older than Garry, as a “succubus” and a “predator.” That seemingly opened the floodgates for fans online to join in on the hate, forcing ‘The Future’ to privatize his social media channels.

Ian Garry Remains as Confident as Ever going into UFC 296

Amid all the background noise, Ian Garry was still trying to prepare for a massive fight at the UFC’s final pay-per-view of the year. Asked if all the comments and news coverage could potentially affect his performance come fight night, ‘The Future’ said:

“I’m not remotely concerned or worried about the fight. The fight’s fun. The fight’s easy for me. It’s always something I enjoy, something I love.”

Chances are, Ian Garry and Sean Strickland will cross paths at some point during the fight week festivities, or at the event itself, but for the most part, the Irishman is ready to let bygones be bygones. For now, anyway.

“The buildup to fight week I love,” Machado Garry said. “The press conferences, weigh-ins, everything. I love it. It’s energy. I thrive off it, but me not being able to react to people in person, it’s going to wind me up a little bit” (h/t MMA Fighting).

UFC 296 Headliner Colby Covington slams ‘Sensitive Soy Boy’ Ian Garry in Expletive-Filled Attack

As bad as things have been for Ian Garry, they’re about to get a hell of a lot worse.

On December 16, ‘The Future’ will return to the Octagon at UFC 296 for a welterweight clash with No. 8 ranked contender Vicente Luque. But before he steps in the cage, Garry will step on the stage to take part in the pre-fight press event alongside one of the most outspoken personalities in mixed martial arts, Colby Covington.

Known for his brutal burns and scathing slams, Covington likely has a notebook of insults ready to go once he’s within earshot of the rising Irish star.

Already getting started, ‘Chaos’ shared his take on Garry’s response to all of the backlash he has been dealt over the last several weeks.

“I’ve had death threats. Bombings. People have wanted to kill me after Brazil,” Covington said during an interview with All Out Fighting. “I never turned off my social media. I never turned off my comments. Look at that little Ian Garry. He’s turning off his comments like a little f*cking sensitive soy boy.

So, you know, he ain’t tough. He ain’t the biggest and baddest f*cking fighter in this division. That guy’s a f*cking joke. He’s a little f*cking kid.”

will Colby Covington 1-Up Sean Strickland at the expense of ian garry?

Garry’s social media channels went private shortly after UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland released a video addressing a book Garry’s wife, Layla Anna-Lee, had written more than a decade ago entitled How to Be a WAG. The guidebook of sorts advises older women on how to date and marry young athletes and celebrities. Anna-Lee has since claimed that the book was meant to be satirical, but given the fact that she is 14 years older than Garry, not everyone was buying her explanation.

Strickland took particular exception to the news, calling Anna-Lee a “succubus” and a “predator” in multiple online attacks that prompted Garry to threaten legal action against ‘Tarzan’ before limiting his audience on socials.

If Ian Garry had a hard time dealing with Sean Strickland’s insults, he’s in for a world of hurt when he steps into the same room with Colby Covington.

Sean Strickland sends a word of warning to ‘Funny little dweeb’ Ian Garry following UFC P.I. encounter

The ongoing saga between Sean Strickland and Ian Garry appears to be far from over.

Garry and his wife, Layla Anna-Lee, have drawn the ire of the MMA community after fans discovered that Anna-Lee wrote a book more than a decade ago entitled How to Be a WAG. The book acts as a guidebook for older women looking to secure relationships with younger athletes and celebrities. Garry and his wife have both called it nothing more than pure satire, but given the fact that Anna-Lee is 14 years older than Garry, not everyone is buying their explanation.

That includes reigning UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland who targeted the couple in multiple videos, labeling Anna-Lee as a “succubus” and encouraging Garry to get out of the relationship.

The online rant resulted in Garry threatening legal action against Strickland which only exacerbated the situation.

As it turns out, Strickland and Garry ran into one another at the UFC P.I. in Las Vegas. Needless to say, the encounter was nothing short of awkward.

“I went to the P.I. today and I ran into the f*cking cuck, Ian Garry,” Strickland said on Instagram. “Awkward, man, awkward. He looked at me hard. Security had to escort us around. F*cking awkward sh*t, right? I’m laughing my ass off.

“Garry, I don’t f*cking hate you, I actually like you,” he continued. “I think you’re a f*cking funny little dweeb. You make me f*cking laugh. I think you’re a dumbass f*cking kid who got some p*ssy that was too good for him and it got in his head and it f*cked you up. I look at you like a victim” (h/t MMA Mania).

Strickland is willing to throw hands with Garry if that’s what ‘The Future’ wants

Ian Garry will gun for his 14th straight win inside the Octagon on December 16 when he meets No. 8 ranked welterweight contender Vicente Luque at UFC 296.

In the meantime, the promotion will likely be keen on keeping Garry and Strickland away from one another, especially with ‘Tarzan’ scheduled for his first defense of the 185-pound crown in January. Of course, that won’t stop Strickland from throwing hands with Garry should that be where ‘The Future’ needs to take things.

“I don’t wanna fight you, bro,” Strickland said. “I’m happy for your success, I’m happy for you. But if you look at me hard and you’re feeling some kind of way, if you’re feeling like you need to get this sh*t f*cking handled, and you want to look at me hard and that’s what you want, slide up in the DMs, bro. I don’t want it, but if that’s what you want, you know where to find me, man.”

Gilbert Burns Comes to the defense of ian garry and his wife amid drama: ‘If it works for them, whatever’

Amid all the recent drama and backlash, Ian Garry has seemingly found an ally in welterweight standout Gilbert Burns.

Garry has been the subject of many headlines over the last few months, much of which surrounds the unconventional relationship with his wife, Layla Anna-Lee. After fans and fighters alike learned that Anna-Lee, who is 14 years older than Garry, wrote a book teaching older women how to date young athletes and celebrities, the couple found themselves defending their marriage against hateful comments from the MMA community, including reigning UFC middleweight champ Sean Strickland.

Speaking with MMA Junkie, Burns questioned why fans and media outlets have targeted Garry so extensively before essentially answering his own question.

“A lot of things happened over the past weekends,” Burns said. Like, we had Bellator champions, Patchy Mix and we had Jason Jackson. We got a lot of things with the PFL, Bellator, we had a lot of good [and] interesting things. But then you’ve got the drama with Ian, that was the number one thing everywhere, you know.

“Why are we going so much to the drama side, you know? Why are we not going to the good side? I guess the drama gives more views and things if people get more gossipy and they like it.”

Taking the high road, Burns opted to come to the defense of Garry and his wife, suggesting that the pair are seemingly happy together and in the end, that’s all that truly matters.

“They have a good relationship so far as I see,” Burns continued. “You know, they look good. Whatever they wanna say, she’s a little bit older, whatever. We have a lot of people that are like that. The way I see it, if he’s happy, if she’s happy, if it works for them, whatever, you know? Do whatever you want.”

On December 16, Ian Garry will return to the Octagon for his toughest test as he takes on No. 8 ranked welterweight contender Vicente Luque. Riding a 14-fight win streak, ‘The Future’ will look to continue his climb up the ladder en route to an eventual UFC title opportunity.

“It’s going to be a good fight, I think,” Burns said. “They both are strikers. For sure Ian is the younger guy, the faster guy… He comes quick, you know, he starts fast. He’s got good volume, good kicks, good hands. Vicente’s going to come with war, like, he’s battle-tested. He fought so many guys, got into a lot of wars. This is going to be a good one” (h/t MMA Weekly).

‘Iron’ Michael Chandler Reacts to Ian Garry Drama ahead of The Irishman’s return at UFC 296

Ian Garry

Rising Irish contender Ian Garry has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way in recent months.

On December 16, ‘The Future’ will return to the Octagon looking to score his 14th career win. Standing in his way of that task will be No. 8 ranked welterweight contender Vicente Luque.

Unbeknownst to many fight fans, Ian Garry and Vicente Luque are actually teammates with both fighters calling Kill Cliff FC home alongside other notable UFC stars, including Brendan Allen and ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler.

However, Garry has found himself in a bit of hot water with Kill Cliff and other gyms, including Team Renegage, the home of reigning welterweight world champion Leon Edwards. In October, Garry revealed that he had been asked to leave Team Renegade and suggested that the call came down from ‘Rocky’ himself. Officials with the gym quickly disputed Garry’s claim that Edwards was “weak-minded” and afraid of a little competition on the mats, noting that Garry was “not adding to the team’s culture” and thus, asked to leave.

Ian Garry’s cocky attitude and “nomad” style of training has seemingly gotten on the nerves of his teams, with one big expectation.

Speaking about Garry’s situation during an appearance on The MMA Hour, Michael Chandler suggested that the Irishman could very well be a world champion one day, so long as he keeps his head on straight and avoids getting sucked into all the drama.

“If he keeps his head on his shoulders, he could be champion one day for sure,” Chandler said. “But he’s got a tough test ahead of him in Vicente. Both of those guys I would consider teammates, probably Vicente more because I’ve trained with Vicente for years and years. Ian is now bouncing around a little bit [too]. We’ll see how it works out for him.”

He continued, “He’s very much a ‘me’ kind of fighter. Whereas I’ve always been a ‘we’ kind of fighter. Focus on the team, more than myself. He’s more ‘I know exactly what to do, I step inside the cage’ kind of guy… I don’t think he’s a bad dude. He picked Conor to beat me I think, so that’s good. He’s his childhood hero man, so me and Ian can have that banter back and forth, it’s all good man,” (h/t BJPenn.com)

With all the recent backlash, it will be curious to see how it affects Ian Garry, if at all, in his return to the Octagon at UFC 296 later this month.
