Undefeated welterweight contender, Ian Machado Garry has vowed to silence the noise surrounding his personal life in the run-up to his UFC 296 main card clash with Brazilian-American contender, Vicente Luque, and make “easy work” of the perennial challenger this weekend.

Garry, the current number ten ranked welterweight contender, improved to 13-0 as a professional in his most recent outing back in August, landing a one-sided unanimous decision win over another staple welterweight, Neil Magny in the pair’s main card outing.

The victory came as Garry’s sixth consecutively under the banner of the Octagon, since his landing in the UFC following welterweight title success with Cage Warriors back in 2021.

And to the consensus, Garry will face the most high-profile opponent and most difficult test of his young career to date in his fight with Luque this weekend at UFC 296.

However, as far as the brash Portmarnock native is concerned, a new version of him with enter the Octagon at UFC 296 this weekend in Las Vegas – vowing to make “easy work” of Luque.

“I think one thing I want to say to the fans is that you are going to see a very different Ian Machado Garry in the Octagon on December 16th because I’m going in there with a lot more emotions,” Ian Machado Garry told Bro Bible during a recent interview.

“And when you give me emotions, I fight so much better with these emotions,” Ian Machado Garry explained. “So, watch me harness them and make easy work of Vicente (Luque) [at UFC 296].”

Prior to his decision win over the most winningest welterweight, Magny back in August, Garry turned in a pair of back-to-back knockout wins over both Daniel Rodriguez, and recent UFC Vegas 83 feature, Kenan Song.

Dan Hardy feels sorry for Ian Garry.

The fast-rising Irish contender returns to the Octagon this Saturday night (December 16) for the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts career thus far. However, much of the noise surrounding Garry has had little to do with his high-stakes welterweight clash at UFC 296.

Instead, fighters and fans alike have chosen to focus on his personal life. Specifically, his marriage to 40-year-old television presenter Layla Anna-Lee.

Last month reigning UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland posted a video labeling Anna-Lee as a “succubus” after learning that she had written a guidebook for older women looking to date young athletes and celebrities entitled How to Be a WAG. Anna-Lee claims that the 11-page e-book was meant to be satirical, but considering that she is 14 years older than Garry, not everyone was buying that excuse, Strickland included.

Strickland’s attack on the couple’s unconventional relationship opened the floodgates, forcing Garry to privatize his social media channels amid the backlash.

Speaking about the situation during an appearance on Submission Radio, former UFC title contender Dan Hardy suggested that Ian Garry has all the potential in the world, but at some point, he let the wrong people take the wheel and steer his career down the path of unnecessary drama.

“Honestly, I feel bad for the kid. He’s a good fighter and that’s been overshadowed by all of the drama in his personal life,” Hardy said. “Any interaction I’ve had with him was always good. I saw him several times at Cage Warriors. I called a couple of his fights. He’s a very skilled and talented fighter. He had great coaches back in the day who really instilled a good skill set into him.

“But there was a point in his career where things started to go south and they went south very quickly from what I can tell from people around him that I’ve spoken to. It just seems like his life was being guided by other people, which is a real shame because, for a young man with so much potential, I feel like his potential is being undermined by the drama that’s being created around him.”

Is Ian Garry being controlled by people who are trying to steal his limelight?

Hardy doubled down on his accusations, claiming that those around Garry are seemingly more interested in stealing the limelight for themselves than helping ‘The Future’ navigate his combat sports career.

“I don’t think he’s a mean person, necessarily,” Hardy continued. “I don’t think he’s vindictive in any way. I think some of the things he says are not very well thought out. Some of the things he does are potentially put in his mind or on his shirt by other people, you could say.

“I feel sorry for him and I feel like his potential is being stifled because of this unnecessary drama around and other people trying to steal the limelight, or create a limelight for themselves. I feel like it’s a lot of weight going into this weekend’s fight against Vicente Luque.”

It remains to be seen how the drama will impact Garry inside the Octagon, if at all, but we won’t have to wait much longer to find out.

Reigning UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards addressed all the drama surrounding Ian Garry, including reports that he kicked the rising Irish contender out of his gym.

Garry has found himself as the talk for the town over the last few months, but seemingly for all the wrong reasons. It all started when ‘The Future’ made claims that he was kicked out of Team Renegade where Edwards trains because the champ was supposedly “weak-minded” and afraid of some competition on the mats. Particularly from a kid who is working his way up the divisional ladder.

Since then, a few fighters, including Sean Brady and Michael Chandler, have come out suggesting that Ian Garry’s conduct in the gym was the likely catalyst for his removal.

Addressing the drama directly, Leon Edwards suggested that the entire situation was blown out of proportion, but he did echo sentiments similar to that of Brady and Chandler.

“I feel like once he came to the gym, he just didn’t fit into the gym,” Edwards told MMA Fighting. “This is like the third gym now he’s been kicked out of. It is what it is. He’s just a different kind of guy. He’s hard to blend with. Everywhere he goes there’s a camera there. Everywhere he goes, his wife is there, his kid is there. There’s a lot going on.

“There wasn’t any bad blood. He came out and made it into a big thing and it wasn’t. He’s been kicked out of more gyms than mine. Like why are you making such a big deal out of it?”

‘Rocky’ has a pretty good idea as to why Ian Garry made such a fuss about the situation compared to other gyms he’s been booted from.

“Because I’m the champion he wants to ride off the back of my coattails and go back and forth with me on social media,” Edwards said. “It is what it is. You’ve got to focus on yourself.

“If he does get to the title — does he? I don’t know yet. That’s it. Wish him well. We’ll see what happens.”

Following Garry’s exit from the gym, Paddy Pimblett added some fuel to the fire when he claimed that ‘The Future’ had been knocked out by Edwards during their brief time training with one another. Rocky’ revealed that while he didn’t put Garry to sleep, he gave the Irishman a little taste of what’s to come should they ever meet inside the Octagon.

“I didn’t knock him out clean, no,” Edwards said. “He got a little taste [of the Kamaru Usman head kick] for sure.”

Leon Edwards Not concerning Himself with Ian Garry’s Rise up the ranks

Edwards and Garry will make their respective returns on Saturday night (December 16) at the promotion’s final pay-per-view of the year, UFC 296. ‘Rocky’ will look to defend the 170-pound crown for the second time when he meets perennial contender Colby Covington in the evening’s main event.

Garry will face his toughest test to date when he faces No. 8 ranked contender in the welterweight division, Vicente Luque.

Though ‘The Future’ enters UFC 296 with an impressive 13-0 record, six of those victories coming inside the Octagon, Leon Edwards isn’t concerning himself with a potential showdown between the two just yet.

“Skill-wise, he’s a long way away from even a thought in my brain for competing for a title,” Edwards said about Garry. “Like I said, I wish him well in his endeavors but I feel like skill-wise right now, he’s not a guy I think ‘Oh sh*t, I need to stay away from this guy.’”

Ian Garry fears for the Safety of his family heading into UFC 296: ‘I’m a little bit cautious about going to America’

Ian Garry is days away from the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts career.

On December 16, Ian Garry will return to the Octagon for a high-stakes welterweight clash with No. 8 ranked contender Vicente Luque. However, most of the headlines concerning Garry have had nothing to do with his upcoming clash. Instead, they’ve largely focused on the drama surrounding his wife and a curiously titled book she authored more than a decade ago.

With fans and fellow fighters slamming him on social media and in interviews, Garry is being very cautious as he travels to the U.S. for his seventh appearance with the promotion.

“I’m excited for UFC 296,” Garry said speaking to TNT Sports. “I think it’s a massive card. A card with all the big names, a lot of big matchups. I’m a little bit cautious about going to America for the safety of my family with all the sh*t that’s been going on online. To protect my wife, to protect my child, to protect myself.”

Last month, reigning UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland took aim at Garry, and his wife, Layla Anna-Lee, who wrote a guidebook teaching older women how to date young athletes and celebrities. The book in question, titled How to Be a WAG, was described by Anna-Lee as satirical, but Strickland wasn’t buying it.

Strickland dubbed Anna-Lee, who is 14 years older than Garry, as a “succubus” and a “predator.” That seemingly opened the floodgates for fans online to join in on the hate, forcing ‘The Future’ to privatize his social media channels.

Ian Garry Remains as Confident as Ever going into UFC 296

Amid all the background noise, Ian Garry was still trying to prepare for a massive fight at the UFC’s final pay-per-view of the year. Asked if all the comments and news coverage could potentially affect his performance come fight night, ‘The Future’ said:

“I’m not remotely concerned or worried about the fight. The fight’s fun. The fight’s easy for me. It’s always something I enjoy, something I love.”

Chances are, Ian Garry and Sean Strickland will cross paths at some point during the fight week festivities, or at the event itself, but for the most part, the Irishman is ready to let bygones be bygones. For now, anyway.

“The buildup to fight week I love,” Machado Garry said. “The press conferences, weigh-ins, everything. I love it. It’s energy. I thrive off it, but me not being able to react to people in person, it’s going to wind me up a little bit” (h/t MMA Fighting).

UFC 296 Headliner Colby Covington slams ‘Sensitive Soy Boy’ Ian Garry in Expletive-Filled Attack

Colby Covington Ian Garry

As bad as things have been for Ian Garry, they’re about to get a hell of a lot worse.

On December 16, ‘The Future’ will return to the Octagon at UFC 296 for a welterweight clash with No. 8 ranked contender Vicente Luque. But before he steps in the cage, Garry will step on the stage to take part in the pre-fight press event alongside one of the most outspoken personalities in mixed martial arts, Colby Covington.

Known for his brutal burns and scathing slams, Covington likely has a notebook of insults ready to go once he’s within earshot of the rising Irish star.

Already getting started, ‘Chaos’ shared his take on Garry’s response to all of the backlash he has been dealt over the last several weeks.

“I’ve had death threats. Bombings. People have wanted to kill me after Brazil,” Covington said during an interview with All Out Fighting. “I never turned off my social media. I never turned off my comments. Look at that little Ian Garry. He’s turning off his comments like a little f*cking sensitive soy boy.

So, you know, he ain’t tough. He ain’t the biggest and baddest f*cking fighter in this division. That guy’s a f*cking joke. He’s a little f*cking kid.”

will Colby Covington 1-Up Sean Strickland at the expense of ian garry?

Garry’s social media channels went private shortly after UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland released a video addressing a book Garry’s wife, Layla Anna-Lee, had written more than a decade ago entitled How to Be a WAG. The guidebook of sorts advises older women on how to date and marry young athletes and celebrities. Anna-Lee has since claimed that the book was meant to be satirical, but given the fact that she is 14 years older than Garry, not everyone was buying her explanation.

Strickland took particular exception to the news, calling Anna-Lee a “succubus” and a “predator” in multiple online attacks that prompted Garry to threaten legal action against ‘Tarzan’ before limiting his audience on socials.

If Ian Garry had a hard time dealing with Sean Strickland’s insults, he’s in for a world of hurt when he steps into the same room with Colby Covington.
