The UFC 203 pay-per-view event will go down this Saturday September 10, but without one of its original bouts. The flyweight tilt between Ian McCall and Ray Borg has been called off due to sickness. ‘Uncle Creepy’ has not competed since his January 2015 loss to John Lineker at UFC 183. The former title challenger was set to come back in August of the same year against Dustin Ortiz, but fell injured just weeks prior to UFC Fight Night 73.

McCall was then slated for a 125-pound burner against Justin Scoggins at UFC 201. ‘Tank’ was pulled from that fight just two days before, leaving ‘Uncle Creepy’ without an opponent. It appears that almost identical circumstances have struck again at UFC 203. As confirmed by FOX Sports, Borg was taken ill late Wednesday night and removed from the card. After a short period of attempting to find a replacement, the promotion also removed McCall from the card.

Unlucky Uncle

That’s two fights within months that have fallen apart for Ian McCall, making him perhaps the unluckiest uncle in the UFC right now. As a result of Ray Borg being pulled, and also visa issues forcing the delay of Damir Hadzovic vs. Yukawa Kazuya, there are now three fights on the Fight Pass and FOX prelims. The main event for the evening remains intact of course, as heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic takes on the highly decorated knockout artist Alistair Overeem.

Somehow CM Punk finds himself on a main card for his first ever MMA fight against Mickey Gall. The co-main event for the show in Cleveland, Ohio is the rematch between Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne.

Here’s how the UFC 203 fight card looks as of now:

Event: UFC 203 “Miocic vs. Overeem”

No. 5-ranked UFC flyweight Ian McCall, who hasn’t competed since suffering a decision loss to John Lineker in January 2015, was slated to make his return to action against Justin Scoggins at last weekend’s (July 30, 2016) UFC 201 from Atlanta, Georgia. Unfortunately, Scoggins experienced weight cutting issues and was forced to withdraw from the bout just days before. Following the fallout, “Uncle Creepy” made it clear that he’d like to fight in the near future, and it appears as if the promotion has granted him his wish.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, McCall will now face off with No. 14-ranked Ray Borg at September 10’s UFC 203 from Cleveland, Ohio.

Prior to dropping a loss to Lineker, McCall had won two straight over Brad Picket and Iliarde Santos. Before those victories, McCall was riding a two-fight losing streak, although those loses came at the hands of the division’s elite, dominant champion Demetrious Johnson and longtime top contender Joseph Benavidez. “Uncle Creepy” has remained a contender in the 125-pound division.

Ironically, the 23-year-old Borg is coming off of a decision loss to Scoggins. Before suffering that setback, “The Tazmexican Devil” had won three straight over the likes of Shane Howell, Chris Kelades, and Geane Herrera.

UFC 203 will be headlined by an intriguing heavyweight title fight as Ohio native Stipe Miocic puts his title on the line for the very first time against legendary kick boxer Alistair ‘The Reem” Overeem.

Ian McCall’s Response To UFC 201 Fight Cancellation: “Whatever”

Ian McCall has not fought since early 2015.

“Uncle Creepy” was expected to return to action Saturday night at UFC 201 vs. Justin Scoggins in the pay-per-view main card opener. However, Scoggins’ body stopped cutting weight Thursday and officials removed the entire fight.

McCall (13-5-1) will still receive his show money after successfully weighing in, according to a report by MMAjunkie.

“Whatever,” McCall said. “As much as I like Justin, I want to be a (expletive) and say something, but whatever. Weight cutting isn’t good for you, and if you don’t do it right – and he’s young, he’s probably stupid about it. But he’s a good fighter, so hopefully this won’t tarnish his name too much.”

A veteran of the sport, McCall understands all of the nuisances that go into the fight game.

“It’s weird that I feel bad for him, but this weight cutting (expletive) is horrible for you,” he said. “I’m just getting it done because I’m getting paid.”

Justin Scoggins is out of his flyweight bout against Ian McCall at UFC 201 due to weight cutting issues. While the UFC has yet to pull McCall from the event, getting an opponent for him on such short notice is not likely.

“We just had to make a horrible, disappointing call,” Chris Scoggins, who is Justin’s dad, told Bloody Elbow. “Justin could not get below 132.5 pounds. He was all good and his body just stopped allowing the weight to come off. No sweating, nothing. That’s too much [of a] weight difference for a catchweight so Justin is out. This is horrible.”
