Bitter rivals Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov renewed their beef on Twitter on Sunday evening.

Following the back-and-forth war between Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the co-main event of UFC 248 last night, Nurmagomedov’s teammate Islam Makhachev controversially posted a now-deleted tweet about how the sport was not meant for women.

The tweet was clearly not received well by many in the combat sport world and McGregor decided to make his thoughts on Makhachev known:

“An absolute cretin. A Convicted Steroid cheat that will do anything to avoid impact and stall a fight, and then talks down on one of the greatest exchanges of combat ever produced by our female combatants. These little gremlins! It’s back on. Filthy rats. Shame on the game.”

Before that, McGregor also mocked Nurmagomedov’s comments during the UFC 249 press conference about being in street fights in Dagestan:

Nurmagomedov decided to chime in and mock the Irishman for his defeat to him back in October 2018:

McGregor would promptly respond soon after:

Given previous interactions between the two, one can expect even more back-and-forth. We’ll keep updating this post if that is the case.

Nurmagomedov has since responded:

What do you make of McGregor and Nurmagomedov’s back-and-forth on Twitter?

A lightweight bout between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Hernandez is set to take place at UFC 249.

That’s according to MMA Fighting who are reporting that verbal agreements are in place with both contracts expected to be signed shortly. The initial report was from MMA Junkie.

Makhachev’s last outing was a unanimous decision win over Davi Ramos at UFC 242 back in September. The Dagestan native — ranked No. 14 in the UFC lightweight rankings — has since struggled to land a ranked opponent and was most recently campaigning for a fight with Al Iaquinta.

Instead, he will get Hernandez — ranked below him at No. 15 — who is coming off a controversial unanimous decision victory over Francisco Trinaldo in July. Before that bout, “The Great” suffered his first UFC loss when he was TKO’d by Donald Cerrone in January 2019.

UFC 249 takes place April 18 in Brooklyn, New York. It will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev poked fun at Al Iaquinta with some old footage.

Makhachev has been looking for an opponent to fight at UFC 249 which takes place on April 18 in Brooklyn, New York. He was initially looking to compete against Kevin Lee only for the latter to claim that the UFC wanted that fight later in the year in Russia.

With other contenders such as Dan Hooker and Paul Felder booked to face each other, recent rumors suggested that Makhachev would face Gregor Gillespie next. However, nothing has come to fruition as of yet.

And so, Makhachev decided to call out Iaquinta who was more than receptive to the idea. However, the New Yorker wants the fight in Moscow.

While it is a relief for Makhachev that he finally found an opponent willing to face him, he still wants to compete in April in New York.

And he followed things up on Instagram with a tongue-in-cheek video of him wiping the blood off Iaquinta’s face following his defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov back in April 2018 which happened in the same arena:

“I want to take care of you like I did last time at Barclays center. I’m waiting for your answer #ufc249

Makhachev last competed at UFC 242 in September when he outpointed Davi Ramos.

“Never been offered KevinLee fight. Just send me the contract @seanshelby@danawhite@ufc@bokamotoESPN

Recently, Islam’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, suggested he’s having a difficult time finding his client an opponent.

“Guys please I need someone to fight this man Nobody want this business”

Lee, however, takes exception with this suggestion, responding with the following.

“WHaT. Cmon Ali don’t tell me I gotta turn to twitter to get this done. How many times I gotta raise my hand”

Makhachev responded yesterday on Twitter, once again calling for a matchup with Lee.

“Somebody please make this fight happen”

Lee just snapped a two-fight losing streak with a knockout win over Gregor Gillespie at UFC 244 in November. It was quite the bounce back for Lee, who picked up the first-round stoppage win after making the move over to Tristar Gym. As for Makhachev, he’s on a six-fight win streak since suffering the first defeat of his career back in October of 2015.

What do you think about a potential matchup between Lee and Makhachev next?
