Jailton Almeida scored his eighth victory inside the Octagon at UFC 311, delivering a dominant performance against heavyweight standout Serghei Spivac.

Spivac scored a quick takedown on Almeida and looked to light up the Brazilian with some stiff ground-and-pound strikes, but it wasn’t long before ‘Maladinho’ reversed the position, taking Spivac’s back in the process.

Spivac managed to turn his body, once again top position on Almeida which forced the Brazilian to scramble, working his way back up. Once on their feet, Almeida delivered a devastating combination punctuated by a nasty right hand that had Spivac reeling.

Heavyweight contender Jailton Almeida has a three-fight plan leading to gold in 2025, starting with a victory this weekend at UFC 311.

While all eyes will be on the two championship fights at bantamweight and lightweight that will headline proceedings, Saturday’s pay-per-view event at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome isn’t short on intriguing undercard contests.

One set for the preliminary portion of the UFC 311 lineup will see Almeida return for his first assignment of the new year. After bouncing back form his first UFC defeat with a dominant submission win over Alexandr Romanov last time out, the #6-ranked contender is next tasked with defending his position against the charging Serghei Spivac.

While he’s not underestimating his Moldovan opponent, who most recently beat Marcin Tybura in a UFC Fight Night main event, “Malhadinho” isn’t afraid of looking beyond Jan. 18.

During a recent UFC 311 fight week interview with E. Spencer Kyte for UFC.com, Almeida outlined what he envisions for the rest of the new year, with his plans culminating in a championship showdown with either Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall.

“I plan on having three fights this year,” Almeida said. “My main goal is Spivac now, then after that, a title eliminator against Ciryl Gane, and at the end of the year, facing the winner of Jon Jones versus Aspinall for the UFC heavyweight title.”

Ciryl Gane remains without a fight date in the calendar after his controversial decision win over Alexander Volkov last month at UFC 310. Given Dana White’s thoughts on the matter, it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman has earned the title eliminator Almeida hopes to face him in this year.

Meanwhile, a clash between Jones and Aspinall also seems far from certain. Though the UFC CEO ‘guaranteed’ that another outing for “Bones” would come against the interim titleholder, the Rochester native is yet to fully commit to the continuation of his career following his win over Stipe Miocic last November.

The year-opening pay-per-view for 2025 has its first fight, with heavyweight standout Jailton Almeida set for the chance to return to a win streak.

Almeida (21-3) had his push toward a maiden title fight on MMA’s biggest stage violently stalled by some Curtis Blaydes hammerfists at UFC 299 this past March. It didn’t take him long to rebound, however, with the Brazilian submitting Alexandr Romanov in quick time three months later.

Having retained his #6 position in the rankings, Almeida will once again need to defend that spot next January if he’s to place his name back in the title conversation.

Per Brazilian reporter Léo Guimaraes, “Malhadinho” is slated to share the cage with #7-ranked contender Serghei Spivac (17-4) at the UFC 311 event on Jan. 18.

A location is yet to be announced for the PPV.

Like Almeida, Spivac is coming off a bounce-back performance. The Moldovan 29-year-old suffered a difficult TKO setback at the hands of Ciryl Gane in 2023 but returned this year to avenge a past defeat to Marcin Tybura.

Having now competed in three straight main events, “Polar Bear” will have the chance to advance his championship ambitions on the PPV stage early next year.

Jailton Almeida calls for UFC Paris fight with Ciryl Gane next I'm waiting

Jailton Almeida has called out Ciryl Gane for a main event fight after his UFC 302 submission win over Alexandr Romanov.

Almeida returned to the win column in a big way at UFC 302 and after his victory, he called to return in September at UFC Paris. Then, taking to social media, Almeida made it clear that he wants to headline the card and believes him vs. Gane is the perfect main event.

“Hey @ciryl_gane , lets go bro!! Main Event in France, September 28! The winner fights for the title! It’s me and you. You already fought everyone at the top, except me I’m waiting…,” Jailton Almeida wrote on X.

Gane Paris

Almeida vs Gane does make sense as the main event of UFC Paris, as the winner would likely get a title shot. However, Gane has yet to respond to Almeida’s request and whether or not he has interest in the fight is uncertain.

Jailton Almeida vows to finish Ciryl Gane

If Jailton Almeida does get his wish and fights Ciryl Gane next time out, he not only thinks he wins, but he believes he will finish the Frenchman.

A fight is always different, but I would be for sure looking for the finish,” Almeida said after UFC 302 (via MMAJunkie). “I don’t know if I could get it early like Jon Jones was able to because I don’t think Ciryl was expecting that, but I can see myself finishing him in the third round or fourth round if it’s a (five-round fight).”

Should Almeida get the fight and finish Gane at UFC Paris it likely would secure the Brazilian a heavyweight title shot next time out.

With the win at UFC 302, Almeida is now 21-3 as a pro and is 7-1 in the UFC. The Brazilian holds notable wins over Derrick Lewis, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and Shamil Abdurakhimov among others.

Jailton Almeida got back into the win column in a big way with a quick finish at UFC 302.

Three months removed from his brutal second-round knockout loss to Curtis Blaydes, ‘Malhadinho’ returned ready to make a statement against another submission specialist — Alexandr Romanov.

As expected, Almeida moved in quickly and took ‘King Kong’ down with ease. From there, it was just a matter of time. After an initial attempt to choke his opponent out, Almeida was able to sneak his arm under Romanov’s chin the second time around, forcing the Moldovan to tap out.
