UFC heavyweight Jairzinho Rozenstruik will headline UFC Fight Night 207 against Alexander Volkov this June 4.

In an interview with LowKick MMA, Rozenstruik shared his thoughts on his upcoming match against Volkov. ‘Bigi Boy’ believes the fight will mostly be on the feet and any error in the cage will lead to a quick finish.

“I think it can be a stand-up fight because he’s also a striker. I know he has some jiu-jitsu but mostly I think is going to be stand-up. Yeah, we’re going to see how it plays out. Of course, I’m looking for a win,” Rozenstruik continued, “When I see him, I’ll be there. He’s a big guy, he’s a big tree so I’ll be more moving, finding my angles and try to land what I can land and then see how he reacts. But I would say any error, any mistakes you’re out”

James Lynch probed the Surinamese fighter about Tom Aspinall’s recent win over Volkov and whether he was surprised about that.

“Actually I think it was expectable that Tom is good but I didn’t expect it to be so early in the match. So, I was surprised about that.”

The knockout artist gave props to Aspinall and speculated what might have led to Volkov’s loss. “I think maybe he’s (Aspinall) that excellent,” Rozenstruik added. “It’s the moment, it’s the time you had the fight, you don’t know what happened. Anything can happen.”

Jairzinho Rozenstruik on Aspinall v. Blaydes

Coming off a loss to Curtis Blaydes, Jairzinho Rozenstruik will fight against an opponent who was defeated by Blaydes’s next adversary, Aspinall. With the top and rising heavyweights being matched up against each other, Rozenstruik is excited to see how things play out.

“I think it’s a pretty good matchup. I know those fights are going to come, same as the fight with Ciryl Gane and Tuivasa. The whole heavyweight division is kinda booked so it’s going to be awesome after all these fights so we know where we stand and who we going to face after this.”

The 34-year-old does not seem to be concerned with who wins the contest and is ready to take on whoever comes out on top.

“I don’t really care who wins. For me, the most important thing is who I’m going to face after this. If it’s going to be him or Blaydes or somebody else. I hope it play out good for them and then I face one of them after.”

Jairzinho Rozenstruik on Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic

When Jon Jones announced his move to heavyweight over two years ago, fans were excited to see the greatest mixed martial artist compete against the big boys. There have been strong indications suggesting Jones will take on the greatest heavyweight of all-time in the UFC, Stipe Miocic, in his debut fight in the division.

While Jairzinho Rozenstruik believes the fight makes sense for the fans, he shared his discontent with the possibility of it being for the interim UFC heavyweight title.

“I definitely think it’s the fight to make for the fans,” he said. “But I disagree with him coming in and fighting for the title because we’ve been there running the division. He doesn’t, he was on the side sitting and saying he’s coming to heavyweight. At first, I was motivated that he’s coming to heavyweight, it can be a possible fight. It takes so long, what two years, two years and a half. So I kinda disagree with that that he wasn’t fighting doing anything and he jumped right in for the title.”

A matchup of heavyweight striking talents, the #7 ranked contender, Alexander Volkov, and the #8 rated knockout finisher, Jairzinho Rozenstruik has been booked to take main event honors at UFC Fight Night 207 on June 4. At the time of publication, an official venue or location for the promotion’s event has yet to be determined.

Headlining for his second event running, Volkov most recently took curtain closing status at The O2 Arena for UFC London last month – suffering an opening round straight armbar loss to the unbeaten Atherton native, Tom Aspinall in front of a raucous home crowd.

For Jairzinho Rozenstruik, the Suriname puncher featured on the main card of UFC 266 back in September in his most recent Octagon outing – where he dropped a unanimous decision loss to UFC Columbus victor, Curtis Blaydes over the course of three rounds. Brett Okamoto of ESPN MMA was first to report the heavyweight headliner on June 4.

Landing a whopping 22 career knockouts from a total 34 career victories, Moscow-born kickboxing ace, Volkov managed to achieve heavyweight gold under the M-1 Global banner before his move to the UFC back in November 2016.

Akin to Rozenstruik, Volkov embarked on a four-fight run of consecutive victories under the banner of the UFC – most notably taking out former undisputed heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum in another London main event in March 2018.

Dropping losses to Derrick Lewis, common-foe Blaydes, and former interim champion, Ciryl Gane since – Volkov has managed to nab wins over Greg Hardy, Walt Harris, Alistair Overeem, and Polish standout, Marcin Tybura since. Back in December 2012, Volkov also clinched the vacant Bellator heavyweight championship.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik has landed knockout stoppages in 11 of his 12 professional victories

Rozenstruik, a trainee at American Top Team under head coach, Michael Babb – has so far landed a 6-3 promotional record with the UFC since his February 2019 landing.

Slated for his fourth headlining bracket since his move to the Octagon – Rozenstruik rallied from much adversity in his first main event at UFC Fight Night D.C. against the common-foe, Overeem – stopping the kickboxing ace with a bruising knockout with just six seconds left in their showdown.

Last June, Jairzinho Rozenstruik stopped Brazilian heavyweight, Augusto Sakai – coming as his most recent headliner and his most recent professional victory to boot.

A clash between UFC heavyweight contenders Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik will headline the promotion’s June 4 Fight Night card.

While Volkov, ranked #7, will be making his second appearance of the year, Rozenstruik, currently sat at #8 on the divisional ladder, will make the walk to the Octagon for the first time in 2022.

Both men will be looking to rebound having fallen short in their respective last outings. The bout was first reported by ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto.

Volkov (34-10), a former Bellator heavyweight champion, is a 12-fight UFC veteran who’s competed in the Octagon since 2016. Among his notable wins in the promotion are victories over Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve, Fabricio Werdum, and Alistair Overeem.

In his recent appearances, the Russian has traded wins and losses. After a five-round setback to Ciryl Gane last June, Volkov quickly bounced back in Abu Dhabi with a decision triumph against Marcin Tybura at UFC 267. But at UFC London last month, “Drago” fell victim to the all-round game of rising star Tom Aspinall. In his attempt to rebound on June 4, Volkov will be appearing in his seventh UFC main event.

Rozenstruik (12-3), meanwhile, will be headlining a card on MMA’s biggest stage for the fourth time. The Surinamese powerhouse broke through as a mainstream attraction thanks to four knockouts in his first four Octagon appearances, including against former champion Andrei Arlovski and Overeem.

But at the hands of current champion Francis Ngannou in 2020, Rozenstruik suffered his first professional defeat, and in brutal fashion. Since a 20-second KO loss to “The Predator,” the 34-year-old has gone 2-2, with victories over Junior dos Santos and Augusto Sakai joined by setbacks against Gane and Curtis Blaydes.

Rozenstruik was scheduled to face Tybura at UFC 273 earlier this month, but the Pole withdrew days before the event due to sickness.

After a disappointing performance against “Razor” in his most recent fight last September, Rozenstruik will hope to return to his sleep-inducing KOs when he shares the Octagon with Volkov on June 4.

The current fights expected to take place on June 4 are as follows:

Alexander Volkov vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik (heavyweight main event)

Dan Ige vs. Movsar Evloev (featherweight)

Joaquin Buckley vs. Abusupiyan Magomedov (middleweight)

Jeff Molina vs. Zhalgas Zhumagulov (flyweight)

Ode’ Osbourne vs. Zarrukh Adashev (flyweight)

Poliana Botelho vs. Karine Silva (women’s strawweight)

Andreas Michailidis vs. Rinat Fakhretdinov (middleweight)

Who do you think wins this Octagon-shaking collision, Alexander Volkov or Jairzinho Rozenstruik?

A UFC heavyweight showdown between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Marcin Tybura is set to take place at UFC Vegas 49 on February 26.

MMA journalist Marcel Dorff was among the first to report the news.

Rozenstruik and Tybura were both in the heavyweight title discussion before recent losses. Rozenstruik fell to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 266 while Tybura lost just weeks later at UFC 267 against Alexander Volkov.

Rozenstruik has traded wins and losses since his knockout loss to Francis Ngannou in just 20 seconds at UFC 249. He’s earned wins most recently against Junior dos Santos and Augusto Sakai.

Tybura was arguably the hottest heavyweight contender before a loss to Volkov. He had won five fights in a row over the likes of Ben Rothwell, Greg Hardy, and Walt Harris.

The full card for UFC Vegas 49 has yet to be announced, but the card will be headlined by top lightweight contenders Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev. The winner of that matchup will more than likely be next in line for the 155-pound title.

Before losing to Blaydes, Rozenstruik had called for potential matchups with the likes of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at heavyweight. Both men remain sidelined and are expected to return at some point in 2022.

As for Tybura, he remains a potential dark horse in the heavyweight division. Previous wins over Stefan Struve and Andrei Arlovski helped propel him into the heavyweight rankings.

Rozenstruik is listed at No. 6 and Tybura is slated at No. 9 in the latest UFC heavyweight rankings. The winner of this matchup could get a Top-5 opponent next.

What is your prediction for this fight?

Junior Dos Santos Says UFC Threatened To Cut Him If He Turned Down Fights

Junior Dos Santos

Former UFC Heavyweight champ Junior Dos Santos has had a successful post UFC career so far, most notably making numerous appearances in an AEW ring.

Speaking with MMA Fighting’s Trocação Franca, the former UFC champion opened up on his final run in the company, where everything felt “forced and really weird.” Competing at AEW “lit a gigantic fire inside of me” after not feeling so welcome in the UFC anymore.

“They were really unprofessional, let’s put it this way, with the way they treated [me], like they [treat] everybody else,” Junior dos Santos said. “I wasn’t the first and won’t be the last. The last two fights I got were on those terms, ‘You take it or you’re out.’”

“I was always a nice guy because that’s how I like to be, I like being nice to people so people are nice to me,” Dos Santos said. “I learned to be that way in life, to never expect from others something I don’t give them. I was always a nice guy, treating everybody well, always smiling, and in a way they took advantage of it, or treated it as a weakness, kind of putting me down, I don’t know. They tried to take the most advantage they could of the athlete I built, of Junior ‘Cigano,’ especially the way the last fight was, something really odd.

“But honestly, that’s in the past. There’s nothing I can do, so I won’t carry that with me because, like I said, that’s in the past and it can’t leave the past. I’ve done a lot of therapy and learned to deal with that in a better way. We can’t resolve some things, so they’ll stay that way, and that’s the case with this [situation]. Let’s move on. This type of situation now with pro wrestling showed how much Junior ‘Cigano’ is beloved and how much Junior ‘Cigano’ can still perform.”

Since Dos Santos is no longer under contract with the UFC, he is open to signing with a different MMA organization, but is focused on making the jump to the boxing world where the contract situations tend to differ vastly from the MMA contracts he’s used to citing, “you sign an eight-fight contract and [they will] do whatever [they] want with you.”

“That’s what happens in the UFC and these promotions,” said Dos Santos, who had five bouts left in his deal at the time of his departure. “That locks up the athletes, [losing] great possibilities to negotiate, and they do what they want. The UFC has the safety to keep you locked for eight fights. Now, you lose the first one and they can let you go if they want, there’s no safety [for the athlete]. It’s different in boxing, you negotiate fight after fight, contracts and pay. My case in the UFC, for example, I fought seven times before [fighting for] the belt. I was making the same amount of money stated in my contract.”

Dos Santos hopes that the future for MMA fighters is safer and better pay for all involved. He believes the structure in boxing is a lot better than the one in MMA, but hopes that can change in the future.

“There’s nothing helping athletes,” Dos Santos said. “Legally, we have no structure in MMA like boxing has with this law. … That’s very important for fighter’s protection because right now things happen the way [MMA promoters] want. They do as they will. If it worked, great. If not, they kick you out, they move you aside, lower your pay, do this or that. I think it would be very important if they would finally bring the Ali Act to MMA and make it all more clear and protect fighters more, with better contracts and a foundation to defend the athletes.”

How do you feel about Junior Dos Santos bashing the way the UFC handled his exit?

Looking ahead to his next obstacle, Curtis Blaydes had one regret after UFC 266 when he was fighting Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

The two heavyweights met on the marquee pay-per-view last weekend and were the second fight on the main card. Prior to his UFC 266 match-up, Blaydes recently suffered a painful setback to Houston’s Derrick Lewis when the two met back in late February.

Prior to his knockout loss to “The Black Beast,” Blaydes was running through the heavyweight division. Following the unfavorable results, the American still believes he would beat Lewis 9 out of 10 times despite the knockout. The 30-year-old was on a four-fight winning streak before meeting Lewis. With a renewed desire to get his hand raised, the wrestling-centric heavyweight stuck to the game plan and nullified “Bigi Boy” for the vast majority of their contest.

Discussing his performance on social media, Curtis Blaydes revealed that he had regrets for not pursuing the finish further at UFC 266 against Rozenstruik.

“Not every fight is gonna be fireworks, sometimes you’ve gotta take what your opponent gives you and make the smart descions. I’m happy with the W but Myself and my team know what I’m capable of and I should’ve found a finish in that 3rd round. We’ll get back to work soon and begin ironing out the kinks and be ready for the next obstacle. #ufc #razorblaydes #heavyweight #backinthewinnerscircle” Blaydes posted.

The heavyweight admits he should have gone after the finish more aggressively in the third round. However, during the contest, the right eye of Blaydes began to swell shut which made it even more difficult to mount a powerful offense.

Following his win against the Suriname native, Blaydes proceeded with a few different names to call out. In his post-fight interview, “Razor” took aim at the winner/loser of the potential fight between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane, and also named Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones as possible opponents.

Who would you like to see Curtis Blaydes fight next?
