Dustin Poirier decided to play matchmaker for Jake Paul.

Paul enjoyed the biggest win of his young professional boxing career after a first-round TKO win over former UFC welterweight Ben Askren last night. As a result, he went 3-0 in the process.

Of course, for many, this was an expected result given Askren’s lack of striking pedigree among other factors such as his age. For others, it was a big result for Paul who proved that he is a legit boxer as far as YouTubers are concerned.

Speculation and suggestions started to increase for who Paul should face next. And Poirier had a good idea.

“I want to see Jake Paul vs Mike Perry!”

Of course, Perry sparred with Paul leading up to the Askren fight and said himself that the latter’s skills were legit.

Whether they would compete remains to be seen, but Perry would certainly accept a fight given the payday that would come with it. Paul seems open to the idea as well though he called for a fight with Poirier himself.

Logan Paul has praised Ben Askren

Youtuber, Logan Paul has praised Ben Askren by calling him a ‘genius.’ It comes after Askren was knocked out in the first round of his fight with Logan’s brother, Jake.

Jake Paul and Ben Askren faced each other in the headliner of Triller’s Pay-per-view event, the bout was scheduled for eight rounds but ‘problem child’ Jake only needed one round to stop retired MMA fighter, Askren.

The KO marked Ben’s first and probably last professional boxing fight, the American is known for his wrestling skills in MMA and has won titles in both Bellator and One Championship, he has also competed in the UFC where he is most famous for being on the receiving end of the fastest knockout in UFC history when Jorge Masvidal put Ben to sleep with a flying knee in five seconds.

Before Saturday night’s fight between Askren and Paul, Ben had sat down with Jake’s older brother, Logan on his podcast ImPaulsive. Ben revealed on the podcast that he is a genius, something which Logan has now said he believes to be true.

Speaking on Twitter, Logan Paul said: “ben askren came on my podcast and said he was a genius. at first i doubted him. but after convincing the world he had a chance of beating jake, exploding on social media, and collecting a massive bag, even though he lost… that man WON. GENIUS @Benaskren.”

Despite the loss, Ben is guaranteed to take home at least $500,000 with pay-per-view shares not included in the original sum.

Jake now improves to 3-0 as a professional boxer however it is worth noting that in his three professional fights, he hasn’t yet fought a professional boxer.

Jake Paul made quick work of Ben Askren to stretch his perfect professional boxing record to 3-0 last night.

The YouTuber caught and dropped ‘Funky’ just one minute into the fight.

Askren quickly returned to his feet but the referee decided to wave off the bout, something the former MMA champion protested.

Paul understands why his opponent was unhappy with the stoppage but ultimately believes the referee saved Askren from a severe KO loss.

“Of course he’s going to protest it, just like every f*cking fighter who loses does,” Paul told MMA Junkie post-fight. “Lucky for Ben Askren, because I had another big motherf*cking right hand coming for him, and he would’ve been unconscious for a lot longer than that. The ref saved him.

“He’s lucky. He would’ve been an even bigger meme. It would’ve been more viral if they let him back into the fight. I had a big, big punch coming for him.”

The 24-year-old doesn’t expect to get credit for beating Askren who was known for having poor striking during his MMA career which ended in 2019. Nonetheless, Paul insists he will keep giving his all to boxing so his haters don’t get to see him fail.

“If I would’ve lost, I would’ve been the laughing stock of the world for years to come,” Paul said. “But that’s what drove me so hard to train every day in practice. Everyone wants to see Jake Paul fail. Why? Because I’m the villain. They think I did this, they think I did that. They think I’m an asshole. So, no one knows what it’s like to be me.”

As of right now, it’s unclear who Paul will face next. Tommy Fury, brother of WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has already issued a call out. As has Bellator prospect, Dillon Danis, who is best known for training with former dual weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor.
