Sean O’Malley is eagerly anticipating the upcoming boxing bout between YouTube star Jake Paul and Ben Askren.

Paul transitioned to professional boxing in 2020 and has been successful against extremely low-level opposition.

Most notably, the 24-year-old knocked out former NBA player Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr.

Askren retired from MMA in 2019 citing a linger hip injury.

The former ONE Championship and Bellator titleholder is best known for his elite-level grappling skills.

He’ll be making his boxing debut when he faces Paul on April 17.

Speaking to media ahead of his fight at UFC 260, O’Malley revealed that he is excited to watch Paul and Askren square off.

“There’s not a lot of fights that excite me, and this ain’t gonna be the best boxing fight,” O’Malley said. “This isn’t gonna be like a good, technical boxing fight, but I’m excited. I’m excited for that fight. I’m gonna watch it. I’m gonna be excited fight week. I’m gonna watch if they have any little Embeddeds or whatever they’re putting out. I’m watching.

“I wanna see that fight. I don’t know, Ben vs. Jake, it’s exciting. It’s gonna be a sloppy, sloppy fight. Ben’s gonna make it sloppy, which is good for him. Jake, he looks like he’s training hard. He’s young, he’s athletic, so if he doesn’t beat Ben Askren, we’ll see where he goes from there. He has to beat Ben to show he’s a legitimate boxer.”

O’Malley is leaning towards Paul getting the job done next month.

“I wanna say Jake because he’s gonna be a better boxer,” O’Malley said. “Ben’s such a good competitor – it’s not gonna be a good boxing fight. It’s gonna be grueling. God, I hope Jake doesn’t come in there and try to put his lights out in the first round, two rounds. He’s gonna gas out and Ben’s gonna be there.

“Ben’s gonna be there all eight rounds. I don’t think Ben’s gonna gas. I think if Jake comes out calm, stays calm fight week, stays calm fight day, doesn’t get too excited and just blow his load the first couple of rounds, I think he can outbox him. If he stays behind his jab and doesn’t let Ben do what Ben wants to do, I think Jake could get the job done.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Do you agree with Sean O’Malley? Is Jake Paul going to beat Ben Askren on April 17?

Paulie Malignaggi Rips Ben Askren For Losing In Five Seconds

Paulie Malignaggi Ben Askren

Boxing analyst Paulie Malignaggi doesn’t think former Mixed Martial Arts star Ben Askren stands much of a chance in his upcoming Boxing match with YouTube star Jake Paul.

In spite of Askren’s wide-ranging success in combat sports, including a pair of NCAA wrestling championships and MMA title reigns in Bellator and ONE Championship, Malignaggi doesn’t think he’s a fighter for Paul to be concerned about.

“His striking was, from what I’ve seen, some of the most pitiful in combat sports,” Malignaggi said during his recent appearance on “The Schmozone” podcast. “Personally, me, anytime you get knocked out in less than five seconds in any fight, you lose the ability to call yourself a fighter ever again.”

Askren’s rise to stardom in the UFC was halted when he was knocked out with a flying knee by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239 just two years ago. Following the Masvidal fight, Askren suffered a submission loss to Demian Maia before announcing his retirement from MMA.

This isn’t the first time that Askren and Malignaggi have went at it in the media. After Malignaggi’s decision loss to Artem Lobov in a Bare Knuckle Fighting bout in 2019, Askren criticized the former Boxing world champ; saying “people who box must just not be that good at boxing.”

Askren has recently worked with legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach in Los Angeles to prepare for the upcoming fight, along with teasing his sparring sessions on social media. Paul has been putting in work too, including training sessions with Masvidal and UFC veteran Mike Perry.

Askren will have the opportunity to silence Malignaggi when he takes on Paul in his professional boxing debut on April 17th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

What do you think of Paulie Malignaggi’s comments heading into the Ben Askren/Jake Paul Boxing Match? What are your predictions for the fight?

Mike Perry has been training with YouTube celebrity Jake Paul ahead of his boxing bout with former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren on April 17.

Dana White is so confident Askren would beat Paul he revealed he is hoping to bet $1 million on the fight.

“Let’s be honest: Jake Paul is not a f*cking boxer – this guy’s a f*cking YouTube kid,” White said on the “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” podcast. “Let me tell you about this kid: So the kid he’s going to fight is a wrestler, a real good wrestler, a decorated wrestler, but he’s actually fought real guys. He’s been a world champion in other organizations.”

“He talks a lot of sh*t,” White said of Paul. “We’re going to find out. I hope you can bet on this thing because I’ll f*cking bet a million dollars that he loses this f*cking fight. A million dollars that he loses this fight.”

Paul and Snoop Dogg have since tried to up the stakes with the UFC president.

Both men want to bet $2 million on the fight with White.

Perry took to social media yesterday to warn his boss against putting to much money down on Askren.

‘Platinum’ is one of many MMA fighters who have been sparring Paul ahead of his fight with ‘Funky’.

Paul transitioned to boxing in 2020 and has looked good against extremely low-level opposition.

The 24-year-old most notably knocked out former NBA player, Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr.

Askren retired from MMA in 2020 due to a lingering hip injury.

Before walking away from the sport ‘Funky’ lost back-to-back fights against Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal.

He’ll be making his boxing debut on April 17.

Do you think Mike Perry is right? Is Ben Askren in trouble when he fights Jake Paul?

Snoop Dogg and Dana White

Dana White is adamant that Ben Askren will defeat Jake Paul in their bizarre upcoming boxing match. So much so, that the president of the UFC is ready to put his money where his mouth is. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg is ready to up the ante by doubling the million-dollar stake.

White said on Mike Tyson’s podcast that Jake Paul stands no chance against Ben Askren in a fight. He is so confident of his claim that he is apparently ready to bet a million dollars on Askren dominating. After seeing the footage of White online, Snoop Dogg was quick to jump in on the action. The rapper tells White that if he makes the bet two million dollars, Snoop will match it.

“Hey Dana White, I see you got faith in your boy right?! Going up against my guy Jake.”

“You say you got a million?! You’re the CEO of UFC. You got more than a million. Put up TWO. Put up $2 million and we’ll match it.”

“C’mon Dana, whatchu waiting on?! Your money is good,” Snoop added.

“Yeah, I got Jake. Fight night. That’s my guy. That’s my dog in the fight. $2 million. Holla at me, Dana White.” (Transcribed by TMZ Sports)

The fight between Jake Paul and Ben Askren has been deemed a joke by many. Askren isn’t the greatest of MMA strikers, and Paul is a YouTuber with only two fights in the ring. However, Askren is a multiple MMA world champion and phenomenal wrestler so he’s by no means a slouch. On the other hand, Paul savagely KO’d Nate Robinson in his last bout.

It should be a fun spectacle, with the million dollar bet only adding to the theatrics.

Who do you think will win, Jake Paul or Ben Askren?
