Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz got the job done against Aleksandar Rakic, earning himself another title shot, but Glover Teixeira still has some work to do to run back a second fight.
Blachowicz won by an unordinary outcome, as Rakic took a step back and looked like he may have blown his knee out. Rakic got up and could barely put pressure on his knee. The fight to that point was a rather close one, and Rakic was coming off a dominant second round. Blachowicz walked away with a TKO victory and even went on to tell Rakic that he will one day be the light heavyweight champion as well.
Coming into the fight, Teixeira was already rooting for Blachowicz. He wanted to see him win, this way they could have a rematch after he defends his title agains Jiri Prochazka. Prochazka unfortunately for Teixaira, may be the most dangerous fighter in the entire division, so beating him will be no small task.
Before the fight Teixeira tweeted out in support of Blachowicz.
“Let’s go @JanBlachowicz Win tonight…and I’ll win Jun 11…then we run it back”
Jan Blachowicz answered Teixeiras call with a big win and he is excited to be able to possibly run the fight back
Michael Bisping interviewed Blachowicz after his big win and told hm about Teixeira’s message.
“I was focused on my fight so I don’t check the social media, but I’ll check it now.” Blachowicz said “Glover I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you and I hope so, we going to fight again.”
The first fight, Teixeira became the oldest champion to win the belt at the age of 42, when he defeated Blachowicz. He was able to submit him in the second round by rear naked choking him.

Jan Blachowicz, a former UFC and KSW light heavyweight champion, managed to get off to a bright start against the surging Austria native, Rakic, wobbling the Vienna-born contender on numerous occasions in the opening round, as he dealt with a cut just beneath his left eye as well as giving up a late opening frame takedown.
In the second, Rakic managed to once again land Blachowicz on his back at the fence, however, in a rather anticlimatic finish, the former was forced to call a halt to his own bout after he appeared to have suffered a knee injury during an exchange inside the opening minute of the third frame.
Absorbing a right hand from Blachowicz, Rakic returned to his stance, however, while transferring his weight to his right leg, Rakic appeared to suffer a leg injury — resulting in a TKO loss against the Pole as he was left unable to continue.

Rescheduled following a failed UFC Fight Night Columbus main event last month, Blachowicz will make his first Octagon outing since October of last year, where he headlined UFC 267 against Glover Teixeira, dropping his undisputed title in a one-sided second round rear-naked choke defeat.
For Rakic, the Vienna native has landed two victories since his sole Octagon loss, rebounding with a pair of unanimous decision wins over both one-time title challengers, Anthony Smith, and common-foe, Thiago Santos. Rakic has been out of action since March of last year where he defeated Brazilian striker, Santos on the main card of UFC 259.

UFC light heavyweight contender Aleksandar Raki? has a preference for who he’d like to face for a title between Glover Teixeira and Jiri Procházka.
Raki? will face former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz in the UFC Vegas 54 headliner this weekend. The winner of the matchup is expected to get the next light heavyweight title shot against the Teixeira/Procházka winner.
Teixeira, who upset Blachowicz for the title at UFC 267, will make his first title defense against Procházka at UFC 275. While Raki? has had his fair share of beef with Prochazka, he’d much rather test himself against the current champion.
“I honestly would love to fight Glover because he is a bigger name, he is a champion, he (has been) in the business for a while,” Rakic said. “I think he has not so much time left in his career like Ji?í does. Ji?í’s still young, I think he’s the same age as me. I think he is gonna be at the top for a while, like me. Sooner or later, I’m gonna fight him once or twice, or even three times.”
Raki? has won back-to-back fights over Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith in the Octagon. His lone UFC defeat came in a split-decision loss to Volkan Oezdemir in Dec. 2019.
Blachowicz was the pick in many fans’ eyes to defeat Teixeira at UFC 267. However, now Teixeira has become the top target of rising light heavyweight contenders such as Raki?.
Do you think Aleksandar Raki?is a future UFC light heavyweight champion?
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz has pinpointed the make-or-break moment that shaped his future success inside the Octagon. While not many have a more inspiring story of redemption and overcoming adversity than current 205-pound king Glover Teixeira, the man who became the victim of the Brazilian’s late-career surge last October certainly has an…
Prior to UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi, Blachowicz held the belt and had transformed from a once-unlikely titleholder to an imposing champion. After winning the vacant strap by knocking out the heavily-favoured Dominick Reyes in 2020, the Polish star defended it by adding the first blemish to the professional record of middleweight king Israel Adesanya last March.
But Blachowicz’s ongoing 17-fight, eight-year stint in the UFC very nearly came to a quick and unfruitful close back in 2017.
Blachowicz: The UFC Would Have Kicked Me Out…
Heading into UFC Gda?sk, which was headlined by Donald Cerrone and Darren Till, Blachowicz boasted a 2-4 record in the UFC and had fallen to defeats in his previous two outings. A third straight loss in his home country that night would have likely led to the end of his road in MMA’s premier promotion.
But despite having had a difficult time inside and outside the cage, including some unsuccessful gym moves and a troubling period living in a new city, Blachowicz felt back to his best in the build-up, something he proved on fight night by submitting Clark in the second round.
“When the UFC made the second event in Poland, in Gda?sk, I fight against Devin Clark. I submit him in a really nice way, a standing (rear-naked choke),” recalled Blachowicz during a sit-down interview with John Gooden for the UFC. “I get the bonus. And I enjoyed the fight. I feel good in the fight. I enjoyed all my camp, my preparations. I just enjoy it again. I enjoyed every moment in the fight.”
Looking back on the result, Blachowicz acknowledged its importance. While a release was likely on the line, the 38-year-old has since gone on to win nine of 11 fights in the UFC, a successful period that has included a stint on the light heavyweight throne.
“I won the fight in a good way in Poland. The whole crowd was happy. I knew, ‘Okay, it’s not over, my adventure in the UFC…’ I was (coming off) off two losses. I was two losses, won one, two losses. If I had lost, I think they would kick me, you know?”
While not as crucial in terms of the context of Blachowicz’s career, the veteran’s next fight is certainly of significant importance.
While a win would see the Pole immediately re-enter the title conversation, a defeat would leave him a sizeable step away from his goal of regaining the belt, especially with the likes of Magomed Ankalaev and Jamahal Hill quickly rising the ranks.
Can Jan Blachowicz make it back to the light heavyweight throne?
