Jan Blachowicz had something to say after Corey Anderson declared himself the best light-heavyweight fighter in MMA. ‘Overtime’ made quick work of Ryan Bader at Bellator 268 on Saturday evening. Anderson needed just 51 seconds to dispatch of the current Bellator heavyweight champion and former 205lb titlist. Post-fight, Anderson told assembled media that he is […]
Jan Blachowicz had something to say after Corey Anderson declared himself the best light-heavyweight fighter in MMA.
Post-fight, Anderson told assembled media that he is the world’s best at light-heavyweight. The Bellator Grand Prix finalist ranks himself ahead of UFC champion Jan Blachowicz despite the fact the Polish puncher knocked him out inside one round just last year.
“I already know I’m the best light heavyweight in the world,” Anderson said at the Bellator 269 post-fight press conference. “I already know the Jan (Blachowicz) it was a hiccup of mine in my own shield. I’m not going to say I underestimated him but I looked past him. I was thinking, ‘I whooped the sh*t out of this dude once and I’m going to do it again.’ But I shouldn’t have. I should have taken it one fight at a time.
“Like I’ve said in interviews all week. I learned my lesson. Now, I’m always worried about the moment now. I’m not worried about what’s the next. I’m not looking past anybody or anything or any moment. I know I can dominate Jan again. I know I can do the same thing that I did in 2015 when I only had six or seven fights under my belt. Now, even better with only 21 or 22.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)
Jan Blachowicz Shuts Down Corey Anderson’s Best In The World Talk
Blachowicz understandably took exception to Anderson’s claim.
“Hold up… So a guy who bolted from the UFC after I’ve slept him and almost made him retire, got a couple of wins in the 2nd league and claims he is the best? Maybe I’ve punched him to hard… No class in win or defeat Corey. There’s levels to this,” Blachowicz wrote on social media.
Who do you think is the best light-heavyweight in MMA? Corey Anderson, Jan Blachowicz or somebody else?
Light heavyweight champ Jan Blachowicz is not surprised to hear about Jon Jones getting arrested again. Blachowicz took over the light heavyweight title when Jones vacated the belt in an attempt to move up to heavyweight. Since then, the Polish fighter has been vocal about his interest in wanting to fight the former champ, saying […]
That said, Jones likely had his heavyweight move delayed by another round of recent legal issues, being arrested for domestic violence issues. Speaking in an interview with James Lynch, Blachowicz made it clear that he was not surprised to hear that Jones is on the wrong side of the law yet again, stating that he feels it will continue to happen.
“I’m not disappointed. For me it’s boring, you know? I’m not surprised. Wake up a month (later), and I think we’re going to hear this story again,” Blachowicz said.
With this not being the first time Jon Jones has been in hot water with the law, some have been calling for the UFC to cut him. However, Blachowicz says that he does not want to see that happen, because he still wants to fight the two-time 205lb king.
“I’m not the judge, I don’t want to be the judge. It’s not my business. I hope not, because I believe that in the future I’m going to meet this guy in the Octagon,” Blachowicz said.
It is easy to understand the frustration and exhaustion from the fans, concerning Jon Jones and his repeated offenses, but it is hard to imagine that the UFC will part with such a huge star. Nevertheless, Jan Blachowicz brings up some good points, and it would be interesting to see if the two face off at some point.
Jan Blachowicz is contemplating making the move to chase heavyweight gold soon. Jan Blachowicz is contemplating making the move to chase heavyweight gold soon.
The light-heavyweight champion, who is due to defend his title against Glover Teixeira later this month, has had his say on a potential move up in weight during a recent interview with James Lynch of LowKickMMA.
“In maybe 2 or 3, yeah 2-3 more fights I’d move to heavyweight for sure,” Blachowicz said. “This is a big plan for the future for me. I’m getting old and cutting weight is not easy for me, and I like to eat. It’s just something I want to do and try myself out at Heavyweight.”
Blachowicz is looking to make the jump to heavyweight after a few more title defenses in the light heavyweight division. His last defense was against Israel Adesanya who he defeated by unanimous decision back at UFC 259. The Polish puncher is currently on a 5 fight win streak. He looks to stretch his win streak to 6 when he takes on Glover Teixeira at UFC 267 on October 30.
The move to heavyweight would be a significant step up and would also bring on what many would consider much tougher challenges. Blachowicz would be looking to face Francis Ngannu or Ciryl Gane in a potential “super fight”.
The UFC has seen many champions move up in weight in hopes to become multi-time champions, in recent years more than ever. Israel Adesanya made the move and it did not work out as well as he thought it may have.
We have also seen fighters make it work like “Triple C” Henry Cejudo and Amanda Nunes. The difference in weight for some when moving up is too much. Blachowicz’s legendary power could prove to be even more dangerous in the heavyweight division than the light heavyweight.
Do you think it is smart for Jan Blachowicz to move up to the heavyweight division?
Jan Blachowicz insists he will not make the same mistakes past opponents have against Glover Teixeira when he squares off against the Brazilian for the light-heavyweight title at UFC 267 on October 30 in Abu Dhabi. Jan Blachowicz insists he will not make the same mistakes past opponents have against Glover Teixeira when he squares off against the Brazilian for the light-heavyweight title at UFC 267 on October 30 in Abu Dhabi.
The 41-year-old was hurt in successive fights against Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos before he rallied back to score stoppage victories in both bouts.
During a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Blachowicz noted the durability of his next opponent and insisted he will not be rushing his work at UFC 267.
Jan Blachowicz Understands That Glover Teixeira Won’t Go Down Easy
“You cannot be too fast because he is a smart guy, an old fox,” Blachowicz told James Lynch. “(He has) a lot of experience. He knows how to survive. He can grab you in his game so, you need to wait a little bit. Like (Alexander) Gustafsson, Gustafsson waited until the fifth round to knock him out. This is also something that I want to do. If I hit him hard, if I see that he will go down I will wait. ‘Okay, stand up, let’s go a little bit more.’ He will not catch me in his game. I’m going to be ready for it.”
The Polish knockout artist went on to liken Teixeira to another Brazilian legend who is known for being something of a wizard on the mat. Despite his high praise of Texeira’s ground game, Blachowicz insists it won’t be an issue come fight night.
“Every opponent is different, but I think that Jacare (Ronaldo Souza) is maybe a little bit similar,” Blachowicz said. “Maybe if (Luke) Rockhold will take me down (he’s) a similar level on the ground. But, you know, both of them will not take me down. So, Glover also will not take me down. My wrestling right now is really good. So, we will see. Like it told you, every opponent is a little bit different. Different style, different moves, so, I have to be ready for completely something different this time.”
Do you think Jan Blachowicz is right to be wary ahead of UFC 267?

Reigning UFC light heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz has reacted to the latest arrest of former two-time division champion, Jon Jones, claiming that whilst things regarding the Rochester native may settle down for the time being — he’ll likely find himself embroiled in more legal trouble within the next couple of months.
Veteran light heavyweight champion, Blachowicz headlines UFC 267 on October 30. against one-time title challenger, the #1 ranked, Glover Teixeira — attempting to successfully lodge the second consecutive defense of his crown, having assumed the vacant throne back in September of last year also on ‘Fight Island’.
The Pole managed to clinch the light heavyweight title, vacated by then heavyweight division hopeful, Jones back in August of last year — before stopping Dominick Reyes with a massive knockout the following month.
In his first successful title defense, Blachowicz handed current middleweight pack leader, Israel Adesanya his first professional following a stunning 20-fight undefeated run, taking a unanimous decision win over the City Kickboxing mainstay at UFC 259 in March.
Last month, the aforenoted, Jones was embroiled in legal issues once more following his chequered past with law enforcement, when the Albuquerque resident was arrested and charged with battery domestic violence, allegedly against his fiancée, as well as injuring or tampering with a vehicle after he was alleged to have headbutted a police cruiser near the Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada during his arrest.
Jones had attended the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony in the hours before his arrest, where he collected his induction into the Fight Wing for his November 2013 unanimous decision win over two-time foe, Alexander Gustafsson.
Jan Blachowicz Believes Jon Jones Will Soon Land Himself In Legal Trouble Again.
Jones’ arrest was met with criticism from UFC president, Dana White, who explained how he was not surprised to find Jones involved in more legal trouble, while the aforenoted, Adesanya claimed that he believes the alleged incident of battery domestic violence was not the first time Jones had been involved in such an incident.
Speaking with LowKick MMA reporter, James Lynch ahead of his championship showdown with Teixeira before the close of this month, Blachowicz shared his thoughts on Jones’ arrest, claiming that he was not surprised and that he will likely find himself in more trouble with law enforcement in the not too distant future.
“I’m not disappointed, for me it’s boring, I’m not surprised,” Jan Blachowicz said. “Wait for a couple of months to go and we’re going to hear this story again I think, so you know, that’s it.“
When asked if he believes the UFC should cut ties with Jones amid his ongoing legal issues, Blachowicz remained indifferent, claiming that he would likely fight him in the future — having previously set sights on him prior to his title vacating.
“I’m not the judge — I’m not a judge, I don’t want to be a judge,” Jan Blachowicz said. “It’s not my business. I hope so not, because in the future I believe I’m gonna meet this guy (Jon Jones).“
Undefeated in his five straight Octagon walks, Blachowicz managed to stop former middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold with a vicious knockout back at UFC 238, before taking a split decision win over former Strikeforce middleweight titleholder, Ronaldo Souza, and a rematch knockout victory over now-Bellator contender, Corey Anderson prior to his title win over Reyes.

Johnny Walker is quite confident in his ability to take out light heavyweight champ Jan Blachowicz.
Walker has had an up-and-down run in the UFC up to this point. While he made a big splash in his early fights in the promotion, winning his first three bouts by brutal knockout, he lost two in a row to Corey Anderson and Nikita Krylov, which temporarily put a damper on his rise to the top.
Despite not having fought in over a year, getting back on track by beating Ryan Spann in September of 2020, Johnny is still confident in his ability to be a future champ. Ahead of his return to action against Thiago Santos this weekend, he spoke on the MMA Hour about champ Jan Blachowicz, saying that he feels like he could easily take out the Polish fighter.
“Jan, he’s tough. He’s good, he’s the champion but I can beat him 100 percent. He’s not really skillful. He’s strong, he’s tough. I respect him, he’s a champion, right? He beat Adesanya, he got the belt. He’s doing great, but I can do better,” Walker said (h/t MiddleEasy).
It is certainly not out of the realm of possibility for Johnny Walker to eventually make his way back towards the top of the 205lb division, and a win over number five ranked Thiago Santos would certainly do a lot to propel him there. With that in mind, there have been some proven holes in his game that were put on display in those back to back losses, so it will be interesting to see what improvements he has made to his game in the year he has had off.
There is a bit of a line at the top of the light heavyweight division, with Jan Blachowicz set to take on top contender Glover Teixeira, with Ji?í Procházka and Alexander Rakic not far behind. Perhaps Johnny can get a big win on Saturday night, and with one more after that, be right there with the other top contenders.
