Jared Gordon Paddy Pimblett

UFC lightweight Jared Gordon has big plans for his next fight in the division, after defeating Joe Solecki by split decision at UFC Vegas 38. Following his close victory, he called out Paddy Pimblett, a fighter whose name was linked to his earlier this year.

Gordon has now won three fights in a row since falling to current UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in 2019. Gordon had been one of the targeted opponents for Pimblett ahead of his UFC debut, but contract negotiations never materialized, and Pimblett ending up fighting Luigi Vendramini.

After Gordon called out Pimblett during his post-fight interview, Pimblett responded to the callout with a subtle, yet pointed agreement to fighting Gordon.

Gordon and Pimblett are two of the fastest rising lightweights in the UFC, with Pimblett being a former Cage Warriors champion and Gordon having a relatively successful run in the promotion since signing from Cage Fury.

Pimblett is aiming to have one last fight before year’s end and Gordon could make a lot of sense for a fight to make for him next. Both fighters are on the outside looking in when it comes to the lightweight rankings.

Pimblett had previously turned down a couple of offers to join the UFC before finally pulling the trigger this year. He spoke with LowKickMMA earlier this year and hinted that he wanted Gordon for his first opponent in the octagon.

Now, after Gordon picked up yet another victory and Pimblett seems keen on the idea of fighting him next in the octagon, UFC fans could be in for a treat before the end of the year. The UFC still has to round out a number of events in Nov. and Dec. and could add to a card in need of a showcase bout.

UFC Featherweight and former Cage Fury Featherweight champion Jared Gordon (16-4) spoke with LowKickMMA about his upcoming bout at UFC Vegas 19: Blaydes vs Lewis.

”Flash’ heads into the fight looking to stretch his current UFC win streak to two. He’ll face Danny Chavez (11-3) at the UFC APEX in two weeks time..

Gordon called Danny a “tough” opponent, someone that is dangerous on the feet. However, he believes this a “great” stylistic matchup both on the feet and especially on the ground. He expects to be able to take Danny down and have his way with him.

The 32-year-old looks to improve upon his performance from July when he defeated Chris Fishgold by a 30-26 unanimous decision.

Despite picking up a dominant decision win Gordon believes his performance was lackluster. He pointed to a chaotic couple of weeks before the fight where he lost his whole corner. He feels that we’ll see a much better version of him when he steps into the Octagon at UFC Vegas 19..

Jared and LowKickMMA’s Ryan MacCarthy touched a variety of topics including, his 2021 outlook, the featherweight division, the 10 year anniversary of his pro debut, cheat meals after Abu Dhabi, YouTube boxers getting the spotlight, and much more.

UFC featherweight Jared Gordon has revealed he was the victim of sexual abuse as a child. ‘Flash’ took to social media to react to California passing legislature which would see paedophiles receive lesser sentences for having sex with children who were considered “willing” to do so. Gordon was appalled by this new bill and explained how he was raped by a man when he was just nine-years-old.

“I was sexually assaulted by a man at the age of 9. Full on rape,” Gordon wrote on Instagram. “I had to perform oral, and anal sex on a man. I had no idea what was happening. I thought I did something wrong, like I was being punished for something. To this day I can still feel, and remember the smells and tastes. This ruined my life, at that moment my life took a completely different path then the one I was on. I know it turned me into a hateful person. It made me violent and eventually led me to drugs and alcohol.” Jared Gordon explained. “I vowed I would kill this person when I got older. Luckily this person was eventually caught in a child pornography ring and had other charges brought against him which landed him in prison. This is the most bizarre shit I have ever seen. If you’re down with this get the fuck out of my way. No way in the world can a minor give consent or ever understand sex. I don’t even know what else to say…”

Gordon has been very open about his struggles with addiction, but he seems to have turned things around and is currently one of the best 145lb fighters in MMA. Last time out he scored a unanimous decision victory over Chris Fishgold on ‘Fight Island’.

Jared Gordon believes he is a bigger, more polished version of Chris Fishgold who he will face on ‘Fight Island’, July 18.

Speaking to exclusively to LowKickMMA Gordon talked up his opponent who has a ton of experience at 28 years old, he said.

“I think he’s a talented guy. He’s in the UFC, 18-3, he’s got a great record. He knows what it’s like to in there, he’s got over 20 pro fights – that’s a lot of experience.”

Despite his kind words about the Brit, ‘Flash’ believes he is simply a better version of the Fishgold who he expects to play into his game with an aggressive come forward fighting style.

“I think I’m just a bigger more polished version of him,” Gordon said. “He comes out and he hits hard. He wants to get in your face and punch you and take you down – that’s the type of fight I’m expecting.”

Ultimately Gordon believes the fight will go to the mat and he will finish Fishgold with ground and pound, he said.

“So, I see it going to the ground. I see me winning on top, ground and pound or something like that on the floor. I think I’m going to do well on the feet and then it’s going to end up on the ground and that’s where the fight is going to end, with me, with my hand raised.

UFC on ESPN+ 30 is set to be headlined by featherweight contenders Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige. Gordon and Fishgold will be the first fight on the nights main card. Both men are looking to bounce back after suffering defeats last time out. Gordon was stopped inside one round by surging lightweight contender Charles Oliveira. Fishgold was submitted by Makwan Amirkhani at UFC Stockholm in June 2019.
