Khabib Nurmagomedov labelled the most dangerous fighter ever in the UFC nobody was more dangerous than him

Former undisputed lightweight champion and Hall of Fame inductee, Khabib Nurmagomedov has been branded as the most “dangerous” fighter to ever step inside the Octagon by head coach, Javier Mendez, who squashed claims from Daniel Cormier that teammate, Islam Makhachev was likely more skilful than the ex-gold holder.

Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion and unbeaten fighter during his illustrious mixed martial arts career, has been retired from active competition for the previous four years, most recently defeating Justin Gaethje.

Successfully unifying the crowns, Nurmagomedov retired from the sport in the immediate aftermath of his triangle submission win, before going on to coach at American Kickboxing Academy for a brief period – guiding the above-mentioned Makhchev to the lightweight crown with a submission win of his over Charles Oliveira.

And recently, despite his dominance inside the sport, Khabib Nurmagomedov was branded likely second best in terms of skillset and ability to Makhachev by former training partner and UFC color commentator, Cormier, who speculated the current champion had that little bit of an edge over his once-coach.

Khabib Nurmagomedov receives massive praise

However, according to the trio’s head coach, Mendez, Nurmagomedov is far away ahead of the chasing pack as the most “dangerous’ fighter to ever compete in combat sports, in his opinion.

“Okay, he’s (Islam Makhachev) more skilled [than Khabib Nurmagomedov] in multiple areas,” Javier Mendez told MMA Mania. “More dangerous? Nobody’s more dangerous, in my opinion, in the world, than Khabib. No one, I don’t care. I haven’t seen one that’s more dangerous than Khabib.”

“In the sense of danger, meaning, you can’t do nothing to him,” Mendez explained. “You can’t do nothing to him. Khabib’s the most dangerous in my opinion, because first of all – in my opinion, and this is my opinion – and I’m being biased ‘cause I love him to death: He’s got the hardest chin I’ve seen on anybody. He’s been hit – he’s been hit, the only person that’s rocked him a little bit, a tiny bit, was Michael Johnson. Michael Johnson hit him with one hell of a shot, and other than that, no one else has hit him with anything. …He steamrolls everybody.”

Conor McGregor backed to make UFC return by Javier Mendez I'd like to see him lose again

Javier Mendez, the head coach of undisputed lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, has claimed he would like to see ex-two-weight titleholder, Conor McGregor fight again in the future – for the sole chance of seeing the Dubliner lose another fight.

Mendez, the head coach of Makhachev and former head coach of an undisputed lightweight champion, Hall of Fame inductee, Khabib Nurmagomedov – coached the latter en route to a fourth round win over McGregor back in 2018, with his student wrapping up a high-profile neck crank submission win over Conor McGregor in his return to the Octagon.

Conor McGregor backed to make UFC comeback

And long-linked with a comeback fight against former lightweight title challenger, Michael Chandler – whom he was the subject of a call out from at a WWE event earlier this week, McGregor has been backed to make good on an eventual comeback by Mendez, who hopes to watch the Crumlin striker suffer another career loss.

“I think (Conor) McGregor-(Michael) Chandler happens because Conor’s too much of a fighter not to fight again,” Mendez said during an interview with Casino Alpha. “I’d love to see him fight, but I’d love to see him lose, too. I’d like to see him because I’d like to see him lose because I don’t think he’s a good person. He brought pain to a lot of people and hit my nerves when he said, ‘Father evil, COVID good.’”

“He (Conor McGregor) was referencing Khabib (Nurmagomedov’s) father,” Mendez explained. “All the tragedy felt throughout the world, I don’t care who you are, you can’t say that sort of thing.”

Sidelined since 2021, McGregor has yet to return from his fractured tibia and fibula suffered against Dustin Poirier in their rubber match trilogy, and has been so-far ruled from a summer return by promotional boss, Dana White

Khabib and Javier Mendez

Legendary MMA coach Javier Mendez claims there is no truth to the rumors that Khabib Nurmagomedov is returning to the Octagon to headline UFC 300.

MMA Twitter has been abuzz ever since former three-time title challenger Chael Sonnen suggested that the UFC is angling to book Nurmagomedov’s long-awaited comeback for the massive milestone event. The American Gangster’ even suggested that the former lightweight champ would return to challenge current welterweight titleholder Leon Edwards.

With the promotion yet to announce Belal Muhammad as the next man in line for a shot at Edwards’ crown, fight fans and media outlets were quick to run with Sonnen’s report, no matter how crazy it sounded.

Less than 24 hours later, the American Kickboxing Academy founder attempted to dispell the rumors in an exclusive comment made to combat sports journalist Helen Yee.

“Stop all this nonsense regarding Khabib coming back and me and him training,” Mendez said in the video clip. “There’s been no such thing happening. We’re not discussing training. We never have. Khabib is still devoted to what he said. He’s devoting time to his family. He’s not working people’s corners. He’s not ever going to fight.

“To my knowledge, it’s never been spoken about and to my knowledge, he’s been [in Dubai] the last few days. He just left yesterday and nothing has ever been discussed about fighting. No training, no nothing. We train together actually, but we’re doing cardio. We’re not doing any kind of kickboxing or MMA training whatsoever. So stop the clickbait. Got it?”

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a fighter or their coach has attempted to squash a rumor that hit a little too close to home.

Is there any chance we see ‘The Eagle’ back inside the Octagon on April 13, or is Uncle Chael just telling us another fib?

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Coach Comments on Tony Ferguson’s losing streak and his post-UFC Potential

Tony Ferguson

Javier Mendez, the legendary coach of UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov, believes there are plenty of options for Tony Ferguson outside of the Octagon.

‘El Cucuy’ suffered his seventh-straight loss under the UFC banner at the promotion’s final pay-per-view of the year, dropping a unanimous decision to rising UK-based contender Paddy Pimblett. Now tied with BJ Penn for the most consecutive losses in UFC history, many fight fans expected Tony Ferguson to lay down his gloves following the defeat. However, the moment never came.

Instead, Ferguson stormed out of the Octagon as soon as the decision was announced and then proceeded to suggest that his career was still far from over.

Speaking about Ferguson’s career trajectory, Mendez believes that there are a lot of lucrative options outside of the UFC, should ‘El Cucuy’ move on from his time with the Las Vegas-based promotion. But whether or not he retires is for nobody, but him to decide.

“Well, number one, the UFC releasing him at this stage might benefit them,” Mendez said on his podcast. “Before it didn’t because he was still a needle-mover. He’s really good for advertising, hyping fights up. Tony’s still good at that. So, the fact that there’s bare-knuckle fighting, the fact that there’s other organizations out there it means that Tony still has a job if he wants to, a high-paying job ’cause people pay to watch him.

“So, I think he probably needs to really look at himself now because that’s seven in a row, and he keeps changing things up. Father time’s catching him up more. It’s gonna be up to him and his family, but I don’t want to say he should retire. That’s on him” (h/t MMAKnockout.com).

Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov were scheduled to scrap for the lightweight world title on no less than five separate occasions. Each time, the bout fell through for one reason or another. The last attempt came in April 2020, but the bout was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A month later, ‘El Cucuy’ would go on to fight Justin Gaethje in the first of his seven straight defeats.

Islam Makhachev eyes future fight with UFC star Conor McGregor he gets to do what Khabib did

American Kickboxing Academy head coach, Javier Mendez has revealed that a potential future fight between his student, undisputed lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, and UFC star, Conor McGregor – is most definitely something he would back, with the view of landing the Russian champion a hefty payday.

Makhachev, the current undisputed lightweight champion, most recently headlined UFC 294 back in October in Abu Dhabi, UAE, landing a stunning opening round win over featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski in the pair’s rematch – launching a massive high-kick and follow-up strikes knockout win in the Middle East.

As for McGregor, the former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion has been sidelined from the Octagon since he fractured his left tibia and fibula in a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat to former interim champion, Dustin Poirier.

Islam Makhachev backed to fight Conor McGregor in the future?

And despite links with Islam Makhachev to a championship rematch against former titleholder, Charles Oliveira as soon as January of this year at UFC 297 in Toronto, Canada, the Russian’s head coach, Mendez claimed that a potential showdown with sport star, McGregor would be an interesting fight for his student.

“I see that [Conor McGregor fight] as a fight that would be interesting for Islam (Makhachev),” Mendez told Red Corner MMA. “Because he gets to do what Khabib (Nurmagomedov) did and finish [the rivalry], I guess you could say. He gets to come back and get on the same journey that Khabib did. It’s a great payday for Islam. I think it’s great if Islam wants it.”

“If he doesn’t, then maybe going for the welterweight title is more appealing for him to create the legacy that he wants,” Mendez explained. “Because beating Conor is not gonna create the legacy that Islam wants, right? Going after the welterweight title is. That’s a legacy-type moment. With Conor, it’s a money and it’s a hype thing.” (H/T MMA News)

Kevin Lee too busy moaning to win in UFC return should've focused more

American Kickboxing Academy head coach, Javier Mendez has claimed that “warning signs” should have been clear ahead of the return of former interim lightweight title challenger, Kevin Lee at UFC Vegas 76 last weekend – with the Missouri native suffering a brutal 55-second submission loss to Rinat Fakhretdinov.

Lee, a former interim lightweight title challenger, made his second UFC debut over the course of last weekend against Russian standout, Fakhretdinov, suffering a stunning 55-second technical submission loss to the latter – suffering a guillotine choke submission defeat.

Dropping his third consecutive loss under the banner of the promotion, Kevin Lee had previously dropped a unanimous decision defeat to Daniel Rodriguez – which came off the back of a guillotine choke loss to former undisputed lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira in 2020 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Kevin Lee urged to focus more following his submission loss in his UFC return

And ahead of his return to the Octagon – Lee, who voiced his displeasure with fighting at the UFC Apex facility, as well as claiming there were many “holes” he had noticed in the game of former undisputed champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, was criticized for a lack of focus by AKA maestro, Mendez.

“For me, some of the warning signs for me where Kevin (Lee) was talking about, ‘I’m beyond these little shows at the APEX’, his attitude, to me it’s like your focus should’ve been on winning over your opponent,” Javier Mendez said on his podcast. “Other comments were about Khabib (Nurmagomedov), ‘I saw holes in his game.’”

“You should’ve been more focused on your fight and forget anybody else, forget anybody in particular, just focus on yours because everybody was dying to see what you could do,” Mandez said of Kevin Lee. “It should have never came up – solely focus on the job at hand. A lot of fighters need to focus on the person they’re fighting, especially when you know you have a really tough opponent.” (H/T MMA Mania)

Reacting to Lee’s stunning submission loss, fans poked fun at the Detroit native, with social media users claiming he should have pursued a path on the TikTok platform – akin to his sibling, Keith Lee
