UFC 131 is in the books and the Dallas Mavericks have just won the NBA championship, but the MMA community and city of Dallas will be shifting its attention to the next huge Zuffa event, this Saturday night at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum.

Bleacher Report is here with information and predictions for each of the 10 fights on this important Strikeforce card.

Though some of the fighters on this big event are not as well known to the casual fan, the highly anticipated Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament will be continuing in both the main event and semi-main event.

Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum and Brett Rogers vs. Josh Barnett will be competing in quarterfinals fights.

Also making his Strikeforce debut in Dallas will be veteran fighter and former UFC No. 1 contender, Jeff “The Snowman” Monson as he faces up-and-comer Daniel Cormier.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum fight card!

The link below provides proof that the Strikeforce event this coming June that takes place in Dallas will now feature four heavyweight bouts on the main card.  In addition to the two heavyweight grand prix bouts, now a pair of other bouts in the same division have been added to the Showtime broadcast.

Alistair Overeem’s older brother, Valentijn Overeem, will square off against hard hitting slugger Chad Griggs that night as well.  And Sho.com has just announced a fourth heavyweight clash has been added to the stacked fight card.

Former NCAA wrestling standout, Daniel Cormier, and former UFC title challenger, Jeff Monson, will clash in an intriguing matchup between an accomplished wrestler and an accomplished jiu jitsu master.

The addition of this interesting heavyweight clash to an already loaded night of fights raises the bar for Strikeforce.  Four heavyweight bouts on a main card is impressive in itself, but all four of these bouts feature talented and skilled performers who will put on one hell of a show.

The Cormier and Monson match-up could turn out to be a war with neither man wanting to take it to the ground. Will Cormier choose to wrestle a grappling nightmare like Jeff Monson?  Will Monson look to try and muscle Cormier into one of his trademark chokes?  We will have to wait and see.

Either way this card just got even better for the fans, Strikeforce and the sport. The link to the source article is below.

Well-traveled heavyweight Jeff Monson will step in to face prospect Daniel Cormier (pictured) on the June 18 Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum card in Dallas, both fighters have confirmed.

Cormier was originally scheduled to meet Shane Del Rosario, but a car accident last month has sidelined Del Rosario from taking place in the potential Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix reserve bout.

Jeff Monson Signs With Strikeforce, Faces Daniel Cormier at ‘Overeem vs. Werdum’

After years of bouncing from one regional event to another, Jeff Monson will finally return to the big leagues next month. ShoSports has confirmed that the former UFC heavyweight title contender will take on wrestling ace Daniel Cormier (7-0, five wins by first-round stoppage) at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum, June 18th in Dallas. Cormier was originally supposed to face undefeated rising star Shane Del Rosario at the event, but Del Rosario had to withdraw after being seriously injured in a car accident.

Monson is currently riding an eight-fight win streak (in seven different promotions), including W’s over Jason Guida, Travis Fulton, and former King of the Cage champ Tony Lopez. Oddly enough, this will be Monson’s fifth fight at heavyweight since he announced that he’d be dropping to light-heavyweight to be more competitive. He still hopes to make the drop this year.

At this point, the only non-heavyweight bout on the ‘Overeem vs. Werdum’ main card will be Gina Carano vs. Sarah D’Alelio. Check out the current lineup after the jump…

MMA veterans Ricco Rodriguez, Jeff Monson and Frank Trigg walked through their opponents Tuesday at the inaugural Israel FC card at the Nokia Arena in Tel-Aviv.

In the main event, Rodriguez controlled KSW and Bellator veteran Daniel Tabera with takedown after takedown en route to the unanimous decision. Following the three-round affair, the former UFC heavyweight champ Rodriguez pitched a fight against Monson.

“I think both of us at 205,” said Rodriguez, who picked up his tenth straight victory. “He won one, I won one, we should do it again.”
