I’m going to come right out and say it; Jim Wallhead may be the pound-for-pound scariest looking dude in mixed martial arts today. Say what you want about Keith Jardine, Tank Abbott, or even Ruben “Nightwolf” Villareal (lolz!), but none of them hold a candle to Wallhead, who looks like the bastard love child of General Vogel and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. All the more terrifying is the fact that Wallhead actually has the skills to back up his grizzled demeanor. Currently 9-1 in his past ten fights, including wins over Frank Trigg, Che Mills, and Ryan Thomas, Wallhead’s career furthers the theory that anyone nicknamed “Judo” is one bad mofo who should not be tested.

Apparently Strikeforce veteran “Smokin” Joey Villasenor did not get this message, and had to have it hand delivered to him via a Wallhead left hook just over 40 seconds into the first round. And it also appears that Joey must have made a pass at the referee’s wife backstage, because the man in black not only allows an unconscious Villasenor to take about 4 punches too many, but baseball slides to Wallhead’s side to get a close up view of the unnecessary punishment. Don’t shit where you eat, Joey, that’s all I’m saying.
Now, if the fight itself doesn’t convince you how frightening an individual Wallhead truly is, pause the video at 5:15, and you will know exactly what Dr. Sam Loomis was talking about back in 1978.
With the win, “Judo” Jim improves to 23-6, and Villasenor drops to 28-10.
Amidst the rubble left behind in the MMA world this weekend, one event that might have flown under the radar was that of BAMMA 7, which went down yesterday at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England. Featuring the likes of former UFC title contenders Frank Trigg, Paul Daley, and TUF 9 finalist Andre Winner, the card certainly had its fair share of fireworks.
The headliner saw Trigg’s two fight win streak since leaving the UFC snapped by journeyman “Judo” Jim Wallhead, who was able to repeatedly wobble Trigg on the feet en route to a split decision win. The win was particularly heartbreaking for “Twinkle Toes”, whose most recent wins showcased a newfound revitalization since his consecutive KO losses to Josh Koscheck and Matt Serra.
Elsewhere on the card, Paul Daley scored his own decision win over fellow UFC castaway Jordan Radev. The bout saw Daley easily handle Radev in the striking department but unable to finish the resilient Bulgarian, who was similarly frustrated after taking Daley’s back in the third frame and failing to secure a submission. The bout ended Daley’s two fight skid but continued to showcase his inability to make weight, which has become so notorious that even the hometown crowd was unusually silent during his entrance.

Though all but refusing to unleash the combinations his corner was screaming for, Winner’s diverse attack was simply too much for the boxing based Ball, resulting in 30-27 scores across the board for the TUF finalist.
BAMMA champions went 1-1 on the night, with lightweight king Rob Sinclair unleashing a vicious uppercut to end the night of late replacement Diego Vital in the third round. Middleweight champion Carl Noon, however, saw a dominant first round wiped away as undefeated prospect Jack Marshall rallied back from the early beating throughout the second and secured a TKO finish in the third.

Coming off a quarterfinal exit in Bellator‘s most recent welterweight tournament, “Judo” Jim Wallhead will return to the U.K. circuit as a replacement to face Frank Trigg at BAMMA 7 on Sept. 10 in Birmingham.
Tom Watson, who had been scheduled to face Trigg, was forced to withdraw due to a back injury.
Wallhead (21-6), who trains out of Team Rough House with the likes of Dan Hardy, Paul Daley and Ross Pearson, won his Bellator debut in October, but earlier this year had an eight-fight win streak snapped by tournament runner-up Rick Hawn. Prior to Bellator, the judo black belt was a reserve on The Ultimate Fighter 9, but never received the call up.
Trigg (21-8) made his BAMMA debut in May, stopping John Phillips in the first round. Trigg, 39, has won back-to-back fights since his release from the UFC last year.
Also on the BAMMA 7 card are: Leonardo Santos vs. Rob Sinclair, Efrain Escudero vs. Tim Radcliffe and Matt Ewin vs. Valentino Petrescu.

Welterweight tournament competitors Lyman Good, Rick Hawn, Jay Hieron and Brent Weedman each made $20,000 this past Saturday for their quarterfinal wins at Bellator 35 from the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, Calif.
The opening round winners earned $10,000 to show and another $10,000 as a win bonus. Bellator awards a total of $100,000 to the final tournament winner at the end of the season.

The fourth season of Bellator Fighting Championships started Thursday night on MTV2 with Brent Weedman, Rick Hawn, Jay Hieron and Lyman Good winning their fights and advancing to the semifinals of Bellator’s welterweight tournament.
It was a good start to Season 4 for Bellator, and a solid if not spectacular fight card, although it wasn’t without controversy, particularly in Hieron’s victory, which came on a bad stoppage with a referee who made a major mistake.
Weedman’s unanimous decision victory over Dan Hornbuckle was a sensational bout, with back-and-forth ground action that had both guys in danger of being submitted multiple times. All three judges scored it 29-28 for Weedman, but it easily could have gone 29-28 for Hornbuckle, and many of the fans in Lemoore, California, booed the judges’ verdict. Weedman was classy, saying, “Dan’s the toughest opponent I’ve ever faced in over 30 fights.” Weedman had what appeared to be a significant cut on his left eyelid, which will bear watching as he needs to return for the semifinals in less than two months.

The Bellator season four welterweight tournament pairings have been set and all four quarterfinal bouts will take place at the promotion’s season premiere Bellator 35 on March 5 at the Tachi Palace Casino & Resort in Lemoore, Calif.
The winner at the end of the season will receive a $100,000 purse and a title shot against current champion Ben Askren.
