Former UFC light heavyweight contender, Jimi Manuwa has admitted that he did, in fact, slap former opponent, Aleksandar Rakic during a confrontation at UFC London over the course of last weekend – claiming that he had previously informed the Austrian-born contender of his intentions if they crossed paths.

Manuwa, a pioneer of professional mixed martial arts in the UK, retired from the sport back in June of 2019 following UFC Fight Night Stockholm after he suffered a brutal high kick knockout loss to Rakic.

The defeat saw Manuwa slip to 17-6 as a professional, with the knockout defeat coming as his fourth consecutive loss.

As for Rakic, the light heavyweight contender headlined UFC Vegas 54 most recently, with the #3 ranked contender suffering a knee injury en route to an eventual doctor’s stoppage TKO loss against former champion, Jan Blachowicz in a potential championship eliminator.

Jimi Manuwa claims Aleksandar Rakic has been bragging about his KO win over him

Following UFC London on Saturday, Rakic claimed on his social media that Manuwa had sucker-punched him during an altercation at the O2 Arena, however, the latter has denied that he did, in fact, strike the Austrian with a closed-fist – but insists he did slap Rakic.

“It wasn’t a sucker-punch, we were face-to-face and I slapped him (Aleksandar Rakic) and he moved away and did nothing,” Jimi Manuwa told BJPENN.com. “The security came at the end of it, and I didn’t make a scene. I told him I was going to slap him when I saw him and that is what I did…”

“He was walking past and I said to him, ‘What are you saying now?’” Jimi Manuwa continued. “And he was acting all confused. He tried to keep walking so I slapped him and he was like a fox in the headlights. He didn’t say anything after.”

Pointing out his prior career losses to other perennial light heavyweight contenders, Manuwa insists he has good relationships with them, however, that is far from the case with Rakic.

“The fight is the fight, it’s not the first time I’ve lost,” Jimi Manuwa said. “I’ve lost to ‘Rumble’ Johnson, Gustafsson, Oezdemir, I lost to Blachowicz and we are all friends now. I text them every now and then to check in and we are all respectful. Rakic, I don’t know what it is. I got asked by a fan what fight do I want back and I said this one with Rakic because I feel like I didn’t get to show my real skills.

“He came back and said, ‘Oh, I knocked you out, do you need some money off the 50 bags I earned?’” Jimi Manuwa explained. “Or he sends stuff he bought and says he bought it using the money he got from knocking me out. Just being proper disrespectful and I said to him, ‘When I see you keep the same energy’. And that’s it. I just had to give him what he deserves for acting like a troll and a keyboard warrior online.”

Aleksandar Rakic Sucker Punched Jimi Manuwa

While UFC London ended tragically with an injury to UK star Tom Aspinall, there were some thrilling moments throughout. However, according to Aleksandar Rakic, one of the more exciting moments of the night seems to have occurred in the crowd.

Attending the fights, Rakic was sitting in the same row of seats as his former opponent, Jimi Manuwa. After the event ended, Rakic was getting escorted back to the hotel by security, where he had to pass by Manuwa to exit. According to the ‘Rocket’, this is where words ensued, and the ‘Poster Boy’ allegedly punched him as Rakic was turning his back.

“Jimi Manuwa, you piece of sh*t,” Rakic said, taking to Twitter to make a video statement. “You son of a b*tch. What a p*ssy move you did last night on me.”

Aleksandar Rakic Describes Getting Sucker Punched At UFC London

“Guys, I would just let you know that after the event at UFC London, the security was escorting me to the transfer back to the hotel, and ‘Mr. Still Sleep’ was sitting in my row at the end of the row, so I needed to pass by.” Rakic said, describing the incident. “And I pass by and he talked to me something – I didn’t really pay attention.”

“I have nothing to do with that guy,” Aleksandar Rakic continued. “For me, this is over. So I started to turn away and he sucker-punched me. And even in that close range, he couldn’t catch my head. I think he caught me with the forearm on my neck.”

At 14-3, with six UFC victories under his belt, Aleksandar Rakic is one of the premier light heavyweights in the world. Coming off of a leg injury in his last fight against Jan Blachowicz, the ‘Rocket’ is on the road to recovery and undoubtedly hopes to return with a crescendo.

For Jimi Manuwa, four consecutive losses with three being via KO/TKO have spelled the end of his career. Ironically, it was actually Rakic who defeated him last, with a stunning head kick that turned the lights out and retired Manuwa.

Do you think Jimi Manuwa will ever come out of retirement to fight again?

Former light-heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith has shutdown talks of a potential fight between him and British puncher Jimi Manuwa.

Smith snapped a two-fight losing streak this weekend. ‘Lionheart’ quickly tapped Devin Clark in the UFC Vegas 15 main event after previously falling short against Glover Teixeira and Aleksandar Rakic.

Manuwa ended his MMA career last year on a four-fight losing streak, losing three of the four via TKO or knockout. In his last fight, which took place from Stockholm, Sweden, Manuwa was knocked out by Aleksandar Raki? in just 42 seconds after a hellacious head kick. He hasn’t picked up a victory since knocking out Corey Anderson in their UFC London headliner from March of 2017. As of late the Englishman has been leaning towards making a comeback to the sport.

In the aftermath of UFC Vegas 15, Manuwa took to social media to play down Smith’s win and suggest he’d easily win if they fought, he wrote.

“Lion heart got fed an easy fight. I’d spark him #night x”

In an interview with James Lynch for Line Movement, Smith addressed the multiple callouts he has received since getting back in the win column, he said.

“What is Jimi Manuwa thinking? Jimmy Crute, crazy respectful kid man. I am a fan of his and I like his style. And the same with Paul Craig, fairly respectful callout the last time after he fought ‘Shogun.’ And even now, gave me props on my submission and then asked if I wanted to go to ‘Fight Island’ or something like that.”

Smith isn’t entertaining disrespectful callouts from Manuwa who he thinks it would be “silly” to fight at this stage in their careers.

“But then Jimi Manuwa, every time he says something about me it just sounds so cringy, like, he’s looked awful in his last four fights and then retired because he wasn’t able to stay conscious the entire time he was fighting,” Smith said. “If he wants to come back, man, that would be silly for me to entertaining at this point.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)
