Jimmy Flick is set to make his return to the UFC after a short-lived retirement. ‘The Brick’ is set to face off against Charles Johnson on the opening card of 2023.
Flick is known for his elite submission game, with his most recent win coming via flying triangle over Cody Durden at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Neal. Against Johnson, Flick will once again be looking for the finish, although he has warned fans not to rule out a KO stoppage. In a recent exclusive interview with LowKickMMA, ‘The Brick’ had the following to say:
“By finish. I always say finish, but I always like to throw this in there too. I’m 16-5. 14 of my 16 wins are by submission. You’re probably not gonna play me by knockout, but, I can knock people out. I promise it’s happened. My head kick, it got turned into a flying triangle, that easily could have landed right on the jaw and been my first knockout. So knockouts do come. But I always push for a finish. I don’t care if I knock him out or submit him.”
Whilst Jimmy Flick is undoubtedly capable of hanging on the feet with the best of them, his bread and butter is undoubtedly his elite BJJ game. One of his goals for this new tenure of his career is to prove that he is one of, if not the best BJJ black belts in the flyweight division.
Obviously, if you’re betting me, your thinking submission. I’m a submission specialist. I love jiu-jitsu. I’m the best black belt in the UFC at 125. I’m ready to prove it. And I wanna let guys like (Amir) Albazi- he keeps saying he’s beat all these black belts, he ain’t fought a black belt like me. So, I wanna come back, prove that I’m one of the best. Why my jiu-jitsu’s so good. Why I’m so good. And why I’m ‘The Brick.’ I’m ‘The Brick’ because my games solid all over, just like a brick.“
Currently riding a 4 fight-winning streak, Jimmy Flick will be looking to jump right back into his UFC career where he left off. Check out his full interview with LowKickMMA’s Alex Behunin right here:

UFC flyweight Jimmy Flick surprised the combat sports world by announcing his retirement from mixed martial arts.
The 30-year-old was a product of the Dana White’s Contender Series and made a name for himself in his UFC debut win when he landed a flying triangle to tap out Cody Durden in December.
But despite being booked to face the brother of current flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo — Francisco — on May 8, Flick decided to call it a day at a Freestyle Cage Fighting event on Saturday.
Simply put, the former LFA champion has new goals in life which don’t involve mixed martial arts anymore.
“I have three new goals in life: spend more time with my family, help my wife reach her goals, and, my third goal, is to finish the book I started over a year ago to tell my story, to tell my life, to tell everybody why I did this,” Flick said (via MMA Fighting). “A lot of people keep asking me where I see myself in 10 years. ‘Where do you see yourself in the UFC?’ To be honest, everybody, the UFC is not my dream no more.
“A lot of people won’t understand why. It’s hard to explain and it does bring tears to my eyes, but the UFC is not looking out for me. My wife is looking out for me, my kids are looking out for me and that’s what I want. I want to be their father. I want to go to work every day, come home and be with my family. I want to spend time with my little girls, I want to spend time with my wife.
“And I’ve found out I don’t want to be the next Conor McGregor, or the next Demetrious Johnson. So I step in this cage tonight and telling everybody that I’m retiring from mixed martial arts. I’m gonna pursue the other goals in life that make me more happy than fighting ever did.”
Happiness should definitely be the main factor for everyone in the end. And if his retirement sticks, Flick leaves the sport with a 16-5 record and a four-fight winning streak.
What a way to land in the UFC. Undefeated submission-specialist, Jimmy ‘The Brick’ Flick has made good on his Octagon call, scoring a spectacular flying-triangle victory over Cody Durden in the opening-round. Rallying from some dicey striking exchanges as well as briefly giving up his back, Flick managed to grab his composure midway through the opening-round.
Launching a left high-kick which Durden partially blocked, Flick threw his right leg across the former’s back, setting up a stunning flying-triangle. Scoring his incredible fourteenth submission success, Flick eventually forced the tap from Durden with just over three-minutes elapsed in the opening frame.
Below, catch the highlights from Dana White’s Contender Series alum, Flick’s highlight-reel flying-triangle win over Durden.
