UFC light heavyweight contender Ji?í Procházka has responded to high praise from legendary former two-division champion Georges St-Pierre.

In just two Octagon appearances, Procházka has established himself as one of the most threatening standup fighters in the UFC, as well as one of the most entertaining names on the roster.

In doing so, he’s enhanced what was already a firm reputation as a knockout artist prior to stepping on MMA’s biggest stage with a pair of brutal KOs against former title challengers Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes.

As well as impressing the fans and, judging by his upcoming title shot, the UFC bigwigs, Procházka has also caught the eye of St-Pierre. During an exclusive interview with MMA News, the Canadian great touted the surging Czech Republic native as a “future world champion.”

“I’m curious to see him compete more. But he’s very impressive. I think he’s going to be the future world champion,” St-Pierre predicted to MMA News.

Like GSP, Procházka looks to embody the spirit of a samurai and enjoys a strict following of the Bushido code. Receiving praise from not only a UFC legend, but one who represents a similar philosophy as him, has clearly meant a lot for “Denisa.”

Procházka Responds To “Warrior” St-Pierre

At UFC 275 media day on Wednesday, which came ahead of Procházka’s championship opportunity versus light heavyweight king Glover Teixeira this Saturday in Singapore, Procházka addressed St-Pierre’s remarks.

Having recently read GSP’s praise, the 29-year-old admitted that such a high endorsement was an “honor” for him. Procházka went on to return the favor, giving the former welterweight and middleweight titleholder credit for his remarkable work ethic.

“That’s a huge honor. I read that yesterday. I have to say: He is a true warrior. Because he is still working. He’s not fighting active, but he’s still working because he loves it. I understand. I love that. I love the fighting, and it’s a big honor for me.” (h/t MMA Junkie)

While St-Pierre didn’t provide a timeframe for his ‘future champion’ prediction, Procházka will look to prove the Canadian right as soon as June 11, when he’ll look to secure his place on the light heavyweight throne in what will be just his third walk to the Octagon.

Do you agree with Georges St-Pierre’s assessment? Is Ji?í Procházka destined to be a UFC champion?

UFC 275 will see both the UFC Light Heavyweight and Women’s Flyweight Championships up for grabs.

The main event of UFC 275 features UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Glover Teixeira defending his title for the first time against Ji?í Procházka. The champion won the title by defeating Jan Blachowicz by submission at UFC 267 on Oct. 30, 2021.

At 42 years old, Teixeira hopes to prove he can still be the best in his division. However, he faces a dangerous challenger.

Procházka is coming into the fight on a 12-fight win streak, with 11 of his wins happening by knockout. His last win was against former title contender Dominick Reyes by knockout via a brutal spinning elbow at UFC Vegas 25 on May. 1, 2021.

Talia Santos will hope to stop the dominant reign of UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko in the co-main event. Although she is the underdog, Santos has only lost one fight in her career, which happened by split decision.

Her last win was against Joanne Wood by submission at UFC Vegas 43 on Nov. 20, 2021. But Santos will have her most significant challenge to date in fighting Shevchenko.

The champion is regarded as the best pound-for-pound women’s fighter in the UFC. She has successfully defended her title six times. Her last win was against Lauren Murphy by knockout at UFC 266 on Sep. 25, 2021. Shevchenko will attempt to continue her impressive title defense streak and could potentially move up to fight for the UFC Bantamweight Championship.

Check back at MMA News this weekend for our coverage of UFC 275.

Jiri Prochazka

Jiri Prochazka is extremely excited to get inside the octagon against Glover Teixeira and is confident that he will get the finish to be crowned the new Light Heavyweight Champion at UFC 275.

It took Prochazka just two fights to make his statement in the UFC and cement himself as a true title contender. He already has one of the nastiest knockouts in UFC history in his last fight against Dominick Reyes. Prochazka hit him with a beautiful spinning elbow and put his lights out in the second round of the fight.

Prochazka is one of the scariest strikers in the entire organization and he possesses a plethora of ways to finish the fight. His unique style makes him a nightmare matchup for anyone that stands across from him, but Teixeira is a true test for the up and coming star.

Teixeira is as scary on the ground, as Prochazka is on the feet. His dominant win over Anthony Smith and his submission win over Jan Blachowicz are two perfect examples of how great his ground game is, especially when you consider his age.

Jiri Prochazka knows that it’s his time now and He is eager to show everyone

“I’m excited, I respect him because he’s a normal guy, a true warrior. He got the belt at his age, and he has beaten many guys and has won a lot of fights against young guys, strong guys. It’s amazing,” Prochazka said in an interview with Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “Especially the Smith and Santos (wins) that’s the guys in the best shape and he proved that he is a true champion. But, it’s coming my time and I know it’s my time and I just have to do my things and my strategy. I will show my evolved self from my last fight.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Prochazka is aware that Teixeira’s gameplay will most likely be to wrestle him, but he is still confident he will get the finish. Whether it will be early in the fight or later is still a question, but he claims we will see a finish.

Who do you have walking out as the champ at UFC 275?
