Amid their two-fight series, undisputed strawweight champion, Zhang Weili linked up with surefire future Hall of Fame inductee, Joanna Jedrzejczyk as the two met up for dinner – reflecting on their memorable double salvo of fights under the UFC banner.

Weili, a two-time and current undisputed strawweight champion, most recently featured at UFC 292 last August, turning in a unanimous decision win over challenger, Amanda Lemos in a one-sided title fight defense.

Slated to make her return to the Octagon at UFC 300 in April, Weili takes on fellow Chinese contender, Yan Xiaonan in a historic all-Chinese clash – the first of its kind with a championship backdrop under the promotion’s banner.

As for Jedrzejczyk, the second-ever strawweight champion in the UFC, called time on her career following her rematch knockout loss to Weili back in 2022 in Singapore, closing the curtain on a stunning, gold-laden tenure with the organization.

And reuniting in the year since their pair of high-profile back-and-forths, Weili and Jedrzejczyk embraced and shared memories of their rivalry – before going to dinner together.

“We are each other’s opponent in the cage,” Zhang Weili said alongside Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a video posted on her official Instagram account. “We all want to chase our dreams, to win the fight, but outside the Octagon, we are friends, we can have dinner together. We can talk to each other, we can be really good friends. So I’m really happy about it. JJ (Joanna Jedrzejczyk) is always a legend in my heart. She is always the champion – I want to learn from her.”

Weighing up the potential of a shocking return to the sport just recently, Polish striking ace, Jedrzejczyk claimed she would love to hold strawweight gold one final time before ending her career.

“I want to become the UFC strawweight champion one more time in my life,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk said. “And I know I’m on a mission. And I feel like I’m getting closer.”

Polish striking veteran, Joanna Jedrzejczyk appears to be once more weighing up the possibility of a return to mixed martial arts competition following her retirement, revealing she wants to strike gold at the strawweight limit just one more time.

Jedrzejczyk, who has been sidelined since she co-headlined UFC 275 back in June 2022, suffered a stunning second round spinning back-fist KO loss to current champion, Zhang Weili in the pair’s championship eliminator rematch.

And following her defeat, the Muay Thai ace confirmed her plans to retire from mixed martial arts competition immediately, during her post-fight interview with UFC color-commentator, Daniel Cormier.

In August of last year, amid talks of a potential return to the Octagon in a bid to continue her gold laden fighting career, Jedrzejczyk confirmed her official retirement from the UFC to the promotion, with a lingering injury preventing her stunning comeback to active competition.

However, speaking on the promotion’s YouTube channel in a ‘Year of the Fighter’ segment, Jedrzejczyk confirmed her aspirations to touch strawweight gold just one more time – in what would come as a spectacular return to fighting for the Pole.

“I want to become the UFC strawweight champion one more time in my life,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk said. “And I know I’m on a mission. And I feel like I’m getting closer.”

Jedrzejczyk, 36, struck undisputed strawweight gold back in March with a blistering knockout win over former two-time champion, Carla Esparza, before lodging consecutive successful title defense wins against Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Jessica Andrade.

Without a victory since October 2019, Jedrzejczyk’s most recent win came in the form of a vintage unanimous decision win over Michelle Waterson-Gomez at UFC Fight Night Tampa – earning the Polish striker a Performance of the Night bonus to boot.

In new anti-trust lawsuit documents revealed by Bloody Elbow, former undisputed strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk appears to have earned in excess of $2,000,000 for her successful divisional title defense against compatriot, Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205 back in November 2016.

Jedrzejczyk, a stalwart of the promotion’s strawweight division prior to her officialy retirement from mixed martial arts competition back in June of last year, recorded a one-sided decision win over the then-undefeared, Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205, featuring as part of a championship tripleheader in the promotion’s first-ever venture to New York and Madison Square Garden.

And according to lawsuit documents revealed and obtained by Bloody Elbow as part of the outlet’s recent deep dive into an ongoing antitrust lawsuit against the Dana White-led organization, Polish striker, Jedrzejczyk received pay-per-view points for her appearance on UFC 205 which featured Conor McGregor.

And as a result, the Olsztyn native earned a disclosed payday of $2,296,484 for her unanimous decision win over Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205 in November 2016.

A dominant prior strawweight champion, Jedrzejczyk, the promotion’s second-ever divisional gold holder, stopped two-time champion, Carla Esparza 2015 to win 115 pound gold.

Landing a series of successive successful title defenses, Jedrzejczyk defeated Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and former champion, Jessica Andrade during her reign as strawweight champion.

Retiring from mixed martial arts following a stunning spinning-back fist knockout loss to current champion, Zhang Weili back in June of last year in Singapore, Jedrzejczyk has also turned in victories over the likes of Tecia Torres, and Michelle Waterson-Gomez during her Octagon tenure.

Linked with a potential return to the sport despite her retirement, Jedrzejczyk confirmed she had made plans to spring a surprising comeback to the Octagon, until lingering injuries forced her hand.

“I was back to American Top Team at the beginning of this year, at the end of January (and) I wanted to see if I was able to be back and train really hard, and I was,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk said. “I was training really hard for two, three times a day for 13 weeks. Everyone was asking if I was coming back and coming out of retirement. Honestly, I wanted to be back. I wanted to give myself one more chance. But then my (shoulder injury) happened again, it came back with double the power it used to hurt before.”

“I got really sad,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk continued. “Very emotional. But I got calmness in my heart and soul. It’s what I was looking for, for eight months after I retired. I feel like I’m in the spot where I’m not chasing this anymore. That’s a good thing. Sad, difficult, but I feel calm. This is what I was missing the first few months after I retired.”

Despite revealing recently how an injury suffered at American Top Team base prevented a return to the Octagon, former undisputed strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk has now officially informed the UFC of her retirement from active competition.

Jedrzejczyk, the second strawweight champion in the history of the UFC, has been sidelined from active competition since UFC 275 back in June of last year in Singapore, suffering a stunning second round KO loss to current champion, Zhang Weili, courtesy of a spinning back-fist stoppage.

The Polish striking announced her decision to retire from active mixed martial arts competition following the stunning knockout loss to Hebei native, Zhang, however, revealed earlier this summer that she was on the verge of making a return from her hiatus – until an injury suffered in Coconut Creek, Florida, ultimately forced her to reconsider a return to the sport

“I was back to American Top Team at the beginning of this year, at the end of January (and) I wanted to see if I was able to be back and train really hard, and I was,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk said. “I was training really hard for two, three times a day for 13 weeks. However, according to a report from MMA Fighting, Jedrzejczyk, who had yet to officially confirm her retirement to the UFC – has now informed the Dana White-led organization, as she requires a surgical procedure to address a shoulder injury suffered.

Striking undisputed strawweight gold back in 2015 with a knockout win over Carla Esparza, Jedrzejczyk would then defeat Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Jessica Andrade.

Former undisputed strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk has confirmed her plans for a permanent retirement from mixed martial arts competition despite recently claiming she was considering a comeback earlier this year, insisting she is now “calm” in ending her tenure in combat sports.

Jedrzejczyk, a former undisputed UFC strawweight champion, most recently competed on the main card of UFC 275 back in June of last year, suffering a second round spinning-back fist KO loss to fellow former champion, Zhang Weili in the pair’s championship-eliminator rematch in Singapore.

The Pole confirmed her plans for an immediate retirement from mixed martial arts competition following the defeat to two-time opponent, Weili, ending her storied stint in the sport.

However, the fan-favorite revealed recently how she had been contemplating a return to combat sports earlier this year, had suffered an injury whilst training at her native American Top Team, putting an end to those plans.

And commenting on a failed comeback to the UFC this year, Joanna Jedrzejczyk admitted that while it was a difficult decision to make, she is firmly closing the door on a return to mixed martial arts.

“I was back to American Top Team at the beginning of this year, at the end of January (and) I wanted to see if I was able to be back and train really hard, and I was,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk told MMA Junkie during a recent interview. “I was training really hard for two, three times a day for 13 weeks. The second-ever strawweight champion in the history of the promotion, Jedrzejczyk won undisputed gold with a second round TKO win over Carla Esparza back in 2015, before turning in successful title defenses over Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Jessica Andrade – an outstanding divisional record still.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk reveals plans for UFC return in 2023 I was looking for a comeback

Former undisputed strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk has revealed she was planning a stunning return from retirement this year in a return to the Octagon, however, saw initial plans for a UFC return scuppered by a long-standing injury.

Jedrzejczyk, a former undisputed strawweight champion and likely future Hall of Fame inductee, called time on her professional mixed martial arts career back in June of last year, following her second consecutive loss in a stunning spinning back-fist KO loss to former champion, Zhang Weili at UFC 274.

In the immediate aftermath of the pair’s rematch, Jedrzejczyk confirmed her decision to walk away from the sport with immediate effect, bringing down the curtain on a stunning, gold-laden professional career, which saw her boast a 16-5 record.

Since her retirement from the sport, Jedrzejczyk has, however, flirted with a potential comeback to the sport, and revealed this week that she was in line to make a return this year – returning to training at American Top Team before a significant injury suffered previously, nixed those plans.

“I was back to American Top Team in January, because I was looking for a comeback,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk told Cageside Press during a recent interview. “But I had a really bad injury, since 2020, and it got bad, very bad. So I had to go through the surgery. I have to do physio for the next five to nine months to get back to shape, to get back to any sport.”

Joanna Jedrzejczyk holds the record for most strawweight title defenses

“I don’t want to be a coach, but i see myself helping and training with them,” Joanna Jedrzejczyk explained. “Because I will train forever and ever. I love this sport so much.”

Winning undisputed strawweight gold against two-time champion, Carla Esparza back in 2015 with a TKO finish, Jedrzejczyk would go on to rack up a slew of successful title defenses against Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Jessica Andrade.
