SBG Ireland coach John Kavanagh hopes to see Conor McGregor do battle with Frankie Edgar in his return to action. McGregor hasn’t competed since his Oct. 2018 submission loss to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The “Notorious” one is currently healing from a hand injury. He has expressed interest in sharing the Octagon with Edgar […]

Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh revealed who he would like to see face the “Notorious” next and it isn’t Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Instead, Kavanagh would like for McGregor to face Frankie Edgar. The two have been linked with each other for years when they were both in the featherweight division.
McGregor even stated in an interview last month that Edgar was an opponent that was at the top of his list. “The Answer” would respond, claiming he’s willing to fight the Irishman in any weight class.
And for Kavanagh, he thinks it would be a great fight:
“I think him and Frankie Edgar would be a great fight,” Kavanagh told The Mac Life. “I think it was in the works when Conor was kind of going on that featherweight tear. He’s an ex-champion, great fighter. Yeah, if it was me, I would love to see the Frankie Edgar fight this year if possible. And then go on another run in 2020.”
One reason why Kavanagh is a fan of that fight is not only Edgar’s style but his legacy as a former champion:
“Frankie has a style that’s very difficult to deal with,” he added. “But it’s also one we’re somewhat familiar with. Even from his [McGregor] first fight with [Marcus] Brimage. This small, fast guy, quick hands, wrestling. But Frankie’s just been in there with everybody. World champion, beaten legends like BJ Penn and so on. I just think that’s a great match for the fans and for me. I’d love to see it.”
Maybe we could end up seeing it this year?
Are you with Kavanagh in wanting to see that fight next?

UFC light heavyweight prospect Johnny Walker is training with Straight Blast Gym (SBG) in Ireland ahead of his next fight.
Walker is set to take on Corey Anderson at UFC 244 which takes place November 2 in New York’s Madison Square Garden. The winner of the fight is more than likely to be next in line to challenge current light heavyweight king Jon Jones.
And Walker, who usually trains out of IF Team in Barra de Sao Joao, Rio de Janeiro, or in England with his coach and brother, is now enlisting the help of John Kavanagh.
“Pleasure having @johnnywalkerufc train with the team for a few weeks,” Kavanagh wrote. “His ability to generate power with no tell is eye opening. Explains a lot of those quick finishes! Great spar today with @karlmoore91 @everlast @sbgireland.”
It’ll be interesting to see if training at SBG will produce anything different for Walker, or if it was an unnecessary change.
Regardless, fans have come to expect quick knockouts from the Brazilian who has enjoyed a meteoric rise up the ranks since debuting for the promotion in 2018.
What do you think of Walker training at SBG? Do you think he should keep training there?

Although John Kavanagh wasn’t in attendance to see Artem Lobov vs. Paulie Malignaggi, that didn’t stop him from giving his reaction.
Lobov beat Malignaggi via unanimous decision with 48-47 on all three judges’ scorecards at the BKFC 6 event. The show went down on Saturday night (June 22, 2019) in Tampa, Florida and aired on pay-per-view (PPV).
The SBG Ireland Head Coach took to his official Twitter shortly following Lobov’s upset. He shared the following post: “This is the best day of my life!”
After the fight, Malignaggi announced his retirement from fighting, which means that he will not be returning to Bare-Knuckle Fighting for another go. Despite his exit, it didn’t stop him criticizing the judges’ ruling.
He would also claim that he only got hit with one good punch during the entire fight. Conor McGregor’s longtime training partner had been exchanging words and even had a confrontation with the former boxing champion to set up the fight.
As of result, there was a lot of bad-blood coming into it. Now that it’s over, it appears this feud will remain in the history books. Thus, Paulie won’t get his desired fight with the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion.
