Dana White calls two-division champion Amanda Nunes the best ever following her latest win inside of the Octagon. She KO’d Cris Cyborg in the first round in the co-headliner of UFC 232 to win the UFC women’s featherweight title. This contest went down on Saturday night (December 29, 2018) at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

The UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion was calling for this accomplishment leading into UFC 232. And for good reason. Nunes holds wins over some of the biggest fighters in her weight class. Those names include Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, Germaine de Randamie, Valentina Shevchenko, Raquel Pennington, and Sara McMann.

Following the fight, the UFC President has doubt that Nunes is the best ever women’s fighter in history.

“She’s the best ever. How can you deny it? You can’t deny that she’s the best ever. That’s what this fight was for,” White told MMAFighting. “This fight was to find out. But if you look at her resume and who she beat, she’s the best ever. Nobody can dispute that. You can try, you can say some stupid shit, but she’s the best ever.”

Stardom

White thinks there is nothing standing in the way of Nunes or holding her back from becoming a big star. Such a star that she could be even bigger than those who she has beaten to get here.

“I said it for a long time now and leading up to this fight, this is the fight that had to happen. This fight had to happen,” White said. “It was the fight to make and this is the type of fight that builds legacies and you have find out who is the best in the world. We were able to do that tonight and it was an incredible fight and look at Amanda Nunes.

“You think Amanda Nunes isn’t going to be a star after this? I f*cking guarantee it. I promise you that. The place went crazy for her and I don’t know what’s next. Tuesday, we’ll be back in the office and we’ll have a meeting and we’ll figure out what’s next for her.”

UFC 232 poster has been released by the Las Vegas-based promotion and it’s a cool one to end the year off right. For years now, posters have been something that fight fans look forward to seeing. The reason for that is due to it being the first promotional material sent out by the promotion.

Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title is expected to serve as the main event of this show.

Meanwhile, in the co-headliner, it’s a clash of champions as Cris Cyborg will defend her UFC women’s featherweight title. She’ll take on UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in a fight that is widely regarded as a super fight. Also, a fight that many believe will be the toughest challenge that Cyborg has faced in her pro-MMA career.

Corey Anderson vs. Ilir Latifi, Michael Chiesa vs. Carlos Condit, and Megan Anderson vs. Cat Zingano are expected to complete the five bout main card.

Dana White Adamant About Booking Cris Cyborg vs. Amanda Nunes

Dana White really wants to make this fight happen.

UFC President Dana White has doubled down on making one fight happen in the near future which is UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg taking on UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

Cyborg (20-1, 1 NC) is widely regarded as the best female fighter in the world with her only loss of her pro-MMA career thus far came back in 2005 when she made her professional debut and is coming off a big win over Yana Kunitskaya to retain her UFC women’s featherweight strap in March via the first-round TKO.

Nunes (16-4) is fresh off a successful women’s bantamweight title defense over Raquel Pennington in May which was her seventh in a row to go along with her list of wins over some of the biggest names in the sport including Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Valentina Shevchenko.

If she is able to win this fight then it would mark the fact that she would become just the third fighter in UFC history to be a champion in two weight classes at the same time, which would no doubt be pretty impressive.

“That’s the fight to make,” White said earlier this week following UFC on FOX 30’s ceremonial weigh ins (transcript courtesy of MMA Mania). “I don’t know when we’ll get it done, but that’s the fight to make. That’s the fight I want, I know that’s the fight the fans want, and it’s the fight we need to get done.”

Cyborg has already called out Nunes for a fight at the upcoming UFC 228 pay-per-view (PPV) event but the only issue is the fact that Nunes wants to wait a bit longer in order to make it happen as she wants the fight to go down at the UFC 232 pay-per-view event.

Ronda Rousey has officially signed with professional wrestling powerhouse WWE after seemingly retiring from MMA.

While the former women’s bantamweight champ has been remaining mum on her last two fights which ended in her being viciously knocked out, longtime foe Cris Cyborg feels as if Rousey is running from fighting for an easier payday.

Cyborg spoke with MMA Fighting after being asked her thoughts on Rousey’s signing with the WWE:

“I believe that she will be happy in WWE, and it’s completely different from the reality of MMA. For an example, wins and losses are decided before the shows.”

“I think it’s normal. In reality, we can only talk about things that we already overcame in our minds. She hasn’t overcome her MMA losses yet, even in another stage of her career. Sometimes people need professional help to get over it.”

Rousey and Cyborg have disliked each other for years, ever since the two competed under the Strikeforce banner. When Rousey was still champion, many fight fans and pundits believed Cyborg was the only woman who could stop her, but that fight never came to fruition.

Instead, Cyborg is focusing on defending her women’s featherweight title in a division that’s light on contenders. While the featherweight division fleshes out, Cyborg claims she’s already accepted a bout against women’s bantamweight champion and fellow Brazilian brawler Amanda Nunes:

“My focus is to fight someone in my division because I hope it grows. But like I said, I’ve accepted to fight Amanda (at UFC 226 on July 7), if she wants that so much. Now my manager is negotiating the terms so this fight happens.”

Do you agree with Cyborg on Rousey’s decision to leave MMA for pro wrestling?
