Reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel “DC” Cormier and former divisional kingpin Jon “Bones” Jones possess one of the deepest rivalries the sport has ever seen, and they’ve never been afraid to show it.

Having already faced off once at January 2015’s UFC 182 where Jones successfully defended his then held title, the two were scheduled to rematch at the upcoming UFC 197 on April 23, 2016.

Cormier, however, unfortunately suffered an injury and was forced off of the card, leading the UFC to call on No. 6-ranked Ovince St. Preux to face Jones on short notice for the interim 205 pound strap.

Speaking on the replacement bout, “DC” feels as if St. Preux could be in for a tough test.

Despite their obvious bad blood, Cormier did admit that, in his opinion, Jones is the greatest fighter of all-time:

“I never downplay what Jones is to this sport and what he’s been to this sport,” Cormier told Damon Martin of FOX Sports. “As a competitor I have to be honest with myself, this is a tough one for Ovince. He’s obviously a big, long guy that could cause some issues for most people, but Jon is who he is for a reason.

“He’s the greatest fighter to ever put on a pair of gloves.”

In the wake of his withdrawal from UFC 197, Cormier even was far as to offer his training camp to OSP, or in other words, he offered St. Preux a free trip to San Jose to train at the American Kickboxing Academy.

St. Preux would ultimately decline, but “DC” also admitted that he ‘doesn’t know how’ to beat Jones, given the fact that he lost the first bout, although he obviously would’ve helped OSP in any way he could’ve:

“Even if I don’t help Ovince Saint Preux and I can’t help him beat Jon because I don’t know how to beat Jon Jones, I didn’t do it,” Cormier said. “I don’t have some secret serum to give Ovince, but I would try to help him because even by me being there, it bugs him.”

Will “DC” find a way to beat Jones, or will the outcome of the inevitable rematch not differ from the first showdown?

Former long-time UFC light heavyweight champion and reigning pound-for-pound king Jon “Bones” Jones has never been too friendly with law enforcement, having had his fair share of legal issues over the last few years.

With that being said, Jones had yet another run in with the law earlier this month ahead of his highly anticipated return against Ovince St. Preux at April 23’s UFC 197.

“Bones” was pulled over in his home of New Mexico, and cited for ‘drag racing’, an offense he claims he didn’t do. Ultimately, the former champion was handed five tickets, and his now infamous verbal encounter with the officer, which was recorded by the officer’s body camera, has went viral.

Not only that, but Jones was also jailed for multiple days due to a probation violation, although he’s since been freed with no serious consequences.

Now just 12 days out from his return, “Bones” took to his official Facebook page to once again speak on the matter, accusing the officer of ‘racial profiling’:

Officer Brown all over the news in Albuquerque after reporters dig up how many times he has been in trouble for racial profiling in the past. Being a father of biracial children, I’m definitely not one to pull the race card. At the same time, I’m not necessarily surprised about this discovery after the run in I had with him. Having him stand there, look me in the eyes and start accusing me of several things him and I both know I didn’t do made me feel let down by the community, made me feel powerless, he made me feel like what was actually true had no power over him. Now it’s easier for me to understand why so many people hold resentment towards law enforcement. Officer brown almost single-handedly ruined my trust in law-enforcement. The sad thing about it is, I actually went to school for criminal justice, I wanted to be an officer myself. Fortunately I know better than to let one person ruin my views of a whole group. Just glad people are finally bringing light to who I was dealing with that night.

These are some pretty controversial remarks from the man many consider to be amongst the best fighters of all-time, but do you kind of feel for Jones here?

Troubled former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones had his scheduled UFC 197 (April 23, 2016) interim title tilt with No. 6-ranked Ovince St. Preux put into jeopardy when he was jailed last week due to violating his probation standards after receiving multiple traffic violations.

“Bones” was reportedly pulled over by a New Mexico State police officer who claimed that he was ‘drag racing’, a claim that the fighter has repeatedly dubbed as false.

Jones then proceeded to engage in a verbal war with the officer, and eventually ended up with five traffic tickets he felt as if he didn’t deserve.

Luckily for the reigning pound-for-pound king, however, he was released from custody without any serious repercussions, although he will have to appear in traffic court next month (May 11, 2016).

According to FOX Sports, the former divisional kingpin has plead not guilty to the charges.

Jones’ team feels very confident that the fighter will be let off the hook rather easily, and his lawyers actually voiced their disagreement with the tickets last week in court:

“We believe that they are bogus,” she said.

“We believe that he was profiled.”

Despite having his originally scheduled rematch with bitter rival and defending champion Daniel Cormier put on hold after “DC” suffered an injury, “Bones” still has a somewhat risky task on his hands.

While many aren’t considering OSP a serious threat, Jones will be making his return to action after well over a year on the sidelines opposite a powerful and athletic southpaw.

How do you see the bout, as well Jones’ future playing out?

After an injury forced UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel “DC” Cormier out of his highly anticipated rematch with the returning former king Jon “Bones” Jones at April 23’s UFC 197, it was recently announced that No. 6-ranked Ovince St. Preux would step up to meet Jones for the interim 205-pound strap.

Cormier, appearing on today’s (April 4, 2016) edition of the MMA Hour, discussed his injury, while offering St. Preux the chance to train, all expenses paid, at the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in the lead up to the bout.

Jones, who also appeared on the show, took this offer as a sign of weakness from Cormier, taking the chance to rip the champion in the process:

“Daniel is an absolute coward who will never beat me,” Jones said on The MMA Hour. “And I say that not from an arrogant place. I say that from a place where, me getting my belt back, it means everything to me. That belt right now is a big part of my life. It means everything to me. Me losing to OSP should be the last thing that [Cormier] would want, because if I were to somehow lose, that means he doesn’t get to avenge his only loss.”

Continuing on, “Bones” claimed that Cormier is ‘grateful’ to have pulled out of the fight, once again confirming that Cormier will never get the better of him inside of the Octagon:

“His inviting OSP to his training camp shows me that he’s so grateful that he’s not fighting me in three weeks,” Jones said. “That he’s so grateful that he gets to have one more family photo-op with that belt, because he knows that he’s not going to beat me, especially now with a knee injury. He’s going to be nursing his knee to get back to 100-percent. I’m going to just be getting stronger, better, faster, more rehearsed in my game plan to beat him.

“So, Daniel, man, he’s a mental midget. I’m not worried about Daniel. Obviously him inviting OSP shows that he’s so lucky he’ll be watching from the sidelines and not actually in that cage with me.”

In the end, the pound-for-pound king took to his official twitter account to take one more shot at his bitter rival, framing Cormier as a ‘pu**y’:

Dana White Reacts To UFC 197 Interim Belt: Jones Never Lost His Title

The MMA world is still collectively digesting the news that light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was forced out of his long-awaited rematch with Jon Jones at UFC 197 and replaced by Ovince St. Preux, who will now meet ‘Bones’ for the interim title in the main event of the April 23 card from Las Vegas.

News came soon after that Cormier would have a recovery time of roughly 4-8 weeks and would be able to return in roughly August or September, putting a possible rescheduling of their drawn-out rivalry at July’s UFC 200 on the shelf.

But Cormier won’t necessarily be out for that long, and we’ve obviously seen other champions — such as his AKA teammate and former heavyweight kingpin Cain Velasquez — hold up their respective divisions for far longer without an interim belt being created. That made the call to create one here a bit of a puzzling decision, but UFC President Dana White clarified it on ESPN’s SportsCenter by focusing on the fact that Jones never lost his belt in the cage:

“It will [be for the interim title]. It will still be the main event. It will be five rounds for the light heavyweight interim title. Jon has never lost his title in the Octagon. He was stripped of his title because of problems outside. We think it’s the right thing to do. It’s not [Jones’] fault Cormier is injured. He will fight for the interim light heavyweight title and then when Cormier comes back, they’ll decide who the real champ is.”

White is of course referring to the tenuous situation when Jones was unceremoniously stripped of his title and suspended for his arrest on felony hit-and-run charges in Albuquerque, New Mexico, that left a 25-year-old pregnant woman injured and Jones out of his anticipated UFC 187 match-up with Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson.

Jones also had quite the lengthy legal issue this week when a traffic stop resulted in him being jailed for a probation violation of the terms he was sentenced to for the hit-and-run charges, but all of that seems like sort of an afterthought now that Cormier is out of UFC 197.

Cormier has never pulled out of a fight in the UFC or any promotion before now, so the creation of an interim title does seem a bit arbitrary and unnecessary given that it’s little more than a symbolic gestured created to assign importance to the short-notice main event.

With Cormier poised to return sometime later this summer or early fall, it should be expected that his bout with Jones will be re-booked for the UFC’s anticipated Madison Square Garden debut late this year. That is, unless ‘OSP’ somehow shocks the world at UFC 197.
