Marlon Vera will do whatever it takes to get the win over Jose Aldo.
Vera takes on the former featherweight champion in a bantamweight clash on the main card of UFC Vegas 17 this weekend.
In Aldo, “Chito” is undoubtedly facing the biggest and most reputable opponent of his career thus far even if the former is on a three-fight losing streak. However, it will only be business for Vera who plans on making a statement.
“It was kind of a fight that made sense,” Vera told MMA Fighting. “I’m a f*ckin’ nerd so I see how things work with the UFC. This is a chance for him [Aldo] to prove he can still beat the up-and-comers, and this is a f*ckin’ chance for me to send him home and for me to say, ‘Hey motherf*ckers, I’m coming to be a world champion.’
“We both have a big opportunity and I’m not gonna let him off the hook. When I found out Aldo was the guy, I was like, ‘F*ck yeah, let’s do it. Let’s do it tomorrow.’”
Vera is coming off a first-round TKO win over Sean O’Malley at UFC 252 in August in what was the latter’s first professional defeat. And if he was a bad matchup for O’Malley, Vera feels he is probably the worst matchup for Aldo as he is willing to accept death to earn the victory.
“This is probably the worst matchup for him,” Vera said. “It’s just another day at the office for me. It’s a name, it’s Dec. 19, and it’s a f*ckin’ fight. When they lock the cage and after Bruce Buffer is out of the cage, I’m gonna go f*ckin’ fight my ass off. I’m willing to hurt this guy and I’m willing to take it to win. I’m not gonna shy away and, like the samurais say, I’m accepting death in order to achieve victory. I’m not f*cking around with that.
“I’m coming and I’m coming in hot. That was my post when I announced the fight. I’m coming in red f*ckin’ hot.”
Given the UFC’s plan to cut as many as 60 fighters before the end of the year, there is a possibility that this could be Aldo’s last fight, especially if he goes on to lose his fourth contest in a row. One might expect him to see the best version of Aldo this weekend as a result.
While Vera naturally respects Aldo and views him as a ‘great f*cking fighter,’ he hopes the best version of the Brazilian shows up so he can break him.
“I hope so, so I can see where I am but at the end of the day, I’m gonna push every single limit that I have on myself and I’m gonna break this guy,” Vera added. “I’m gonna walk through him and I’m gonna stalk him. I’m gonna do it. Just like all of my fights, I’m gonna fight like a f*ckin’ motherf*cker. I’m gonna put it on him.”

UFC featherweight veteran Cub Swanson is enjoying the freedom that comes with being unranked.
Swanson is set to return to action from a knee injury when he faces Daniel Pineda at UFC 256 on December 12. The injury was unfortunate in itself as it came during a Submission Underground appearance just a few weeks after he returned to the win column with an impressive unanimous decision win over Kron Gracie.
That said, Swanson is enjoying where his career is at right now — especially as he feels he can now explore fights that have interested him in multiple divisions now that that he is unranked.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about – because I’m not ranked right now that was kinda freeing actually,” Swanson told MMA Junkie Radio. “It was funny. I was actually talking to Dominick Cruz one day at the (UFC Performance Institute), and he was asking me about fights, this and that, and I was like I could only fight certain people because I was ranked. And he was like, ‘Tell them to unrank you.’ And I was like, what? I had never even thought of that. Like, who would ask for that? But at this point in my career it was a little freeing because I could fight anybody.
“It made me think of the possibilities of fighting at (135 pounds), fighting at 55. There are fights that I’ve always thought would be great like at 55, a friend of mine, Anthony Pettis, at 35, Urijah Faber. I could even fight Aldo at 35, so there’s a lot of possibilities. I could see that in the later part of my career they’d want to see some old school WEC matchups.”
Those are certainly exciting matchups with Aldo being one in particular that Swanson has eyed for a while.
The pair, of course, met in the WEC with Aldo requiring just eight seconds to knock Swanson out in their 2009 meeting. And given how Aldo has performed since making the move down to 135, Swanson is looking to emulate him — especially as he feels he has become smaller as he’s gotten older.
“I’ve never tried to make it that far down,” Swanson said of bantamweight. “I feel like I have gotten a little bit smaller in the last couple of years. Making (145) has actually gotten a little easier for me, but yeah it just kinda opened up the idea of me possibly doing a 35 fight, possibly doing 55. I’m open to the ideas.
“I think the biggest thing at this point is, for one, I got this fight ahead of me. I’m trying to get some momentum, and I’ve made a lot of changes in my style, brought some things back, introducing new things, so I’m just trying to get on rhythm of Cub 5.0 and then whatever happens after that, just fun fights at 55 or 45 or 35. I think that’s the biggest thing. I just want fights that are interesting to me.”
Who do you think Swanson should face after Pineda?

Former Featherweight champion Jose Aldo is set to compete at Bantamweight once again taking on the surging Marlon “Chito” Vera.
According to BJPENN.com, multiple sources confirmed to them that the flight had been rescheduled and now will be taking place at UFC Vegas 17.
After losing a controversial decision in his Bantamweight debut, Jose Aldo was granted a title shot against Petr Yan for the vacant Bantamweight title. After a competitive start to the fight, Yan started to edge forward eventually taking Aldo out by TKO in round five.
Vera is coming off a win over popular Bantamweight prospect “Suga” Sean O’Malley. Being granted the co-main event spot at UFC 250, Vera was able to neutralize O’Malley and get the finish by TKO in round one.
This victory took Vera’s recent run to 6-1 with his only loss coming in a controversial decision at Featherweight to Song Yadong. All Vera’s victories on this run have come via finish.
Since this bout the pair were rumored to face off at UFC 255 in November, however, contacts were never signed for that date and instead saw it rebooked for the UFC’s final 2020 event.
It doesn’t look like Jose Aldo and Marlon Vera will be competing on the UFC 255 card. It was recently reported that an exciting bantamweight bout between the pair was in the works for the UFC 255 pay-per-view taking place November 21 in Las Vegas. It was recently reported that an exciting bantamweight bout between the pair was in the works for the UFC 255 pay-per-view taking place November 21 in Las Vegas.
However, that is unlikely now according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani who states that Vera is now hoping it can be booked for UFC 256 on December 12.
“The Marlon Vera vs. Jose Aldo fight isn’t a done deal for UFC 255 on 11/21, sources say. Vera tells me he loves the fight and is hoping it can be booked for UFC 256 on 12/12, but it is very unlikely that it happens on 11/21.”
UFC 255 is currently headlined by a flyweight title fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Alex Perez. A women’s flyweight title fight features in the co-main event as Valentina Shevchenko defends her title against Jennifer Maia.
Compared to recent pay-per-view events, UFC 255 is weak on star power and the addition of Aldo vs. Vera would have certainly helped.
However, that could be UFC 256’s gain as it also plays host to two title fights including a women’s featherweight clash between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson and a bantamweight collision between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling. Both Aldo and Vera could also serve as potential backups for the bantamweight title fight should either competitor be unable to compete. For now, though, nothing is confirmed.
Aldo is coming off a fifth-round TKO defeat to Yan at UFC 251 in July. Vera, meanwhile, is coming off a first-round TKO win over Sean O’Malley at UFC 252 in August.
