The main event features a showdown for the UFC flyweight title recently vacated by former champion Henry Cejudo. However due to Deiveson Figueiredo missing weight he can no longer win the title. Only Joseph Benavidez is eligible to capture the belt with a win.
We here at LowKickMMA have compiled our UFC Norfolk staff predictions for the Benavidez vs. Figueredo main event. Check them out below.
I’ve been going back and forth on this fight all week. Finally, I made my mind up when Deiveson Figueredo missed weight yesterday morning. After a clearly difficult cut he will now be potentially compromised in a fight he can no longer become champion in. I expect this to work in the favour of Joseph Benavidez. He should finally capture UFC gold on his third attempt. I doubt he’ll be able to finish the fight though and will most likely pick up the decision win.

This should be a very high-level contest. Figueiredo is one of the top flyweights out there with just the sole defeat to Formiga, but I still feel Benavidez has what it takes to get the win and finally become a UFC champion. I see him winning a unanimous decision.

In the main event at UFC Norfolk, Benavidez vs Figueiredo I predict Benavidez finding the TKO finish within 3 rounds. I see Benavidez coming out fast pressing the action utilizing his kicks to wear down at Figueiredo’s legs and body, eventually finding a home for that power right hand and finally capturing the Flyweight championship.

The co-main event of the evening will see a clash in the women’s Featherweight division between Felicia Spencer and Zarah Fairn dos Santos, with the winner potentially lining themselves up for the next shot at UFC Featherweight championship against two-division champion Amanda Nunes.

Figueiredo has spoken with confidence heading into this main event match-up. The Brazilian was eager to realize his dream by stopping Benavidez and claiming UFC gold. Now, he’ll have to settle for getting just another win over a big name.
After initially coming in overweight Figueiredo was given the customary extra time to cut the excess. Speaking to BJPENN.com his manager Wallid Ismail says that didn’t happen after the UFC doctors advised his fighter to stop cutting weight when Figueiredo admitted to feeling cramped and nauseous.
“Stuff happens. He
described to his doctor what he was feeling, and his doctor told him to be
careful and not cut any more weight. He felt a bad cramp and was nauseous. It
was that. His doctor advised him to stop the weight cut.
“Now, he knows he needs to
give the fans a great show for this fight. He promised the fans a big fight and
this is what he is going to do tomorrow. There will be blood and it still will
be a war. He wants to say thank you to Benavidez for still taking the fight and
sorry to the fans and to the UFC for missing weight. It was a medical issue.
He’s never missed weight in his entire career before this and he apologizes.”
This weight miss is the
first of Figueiredo’s career. In all seven of his previous UFC bouts the
Brazilian made the flyweight limit with no issues.
