UFC featherweight, Calvin Kattar says that the Josh Emmett loss is behind him now, but it is still a hard pill to swallow.

UFC Fight Night Austin was host to a closely contested main event between Calvin Kattar and Josh Emmet. The bout would go all five rounds with the pair trading strikes throughout the contest. The close fought nature of the bout was evident in the end result, as Emmett won via a split-decision.

This result came with some backlash, as many felt Kattar had done enough to earn the nod.

Talking to LowKickMMA.com, Kattar explained that he while the loss is in the past, it’s not just the loss on his record, but the finical hit he had to take.

Yeah I mean Chris Lee as a judge,” Kattar began. “That was something we weren’t really prepared for, I don’t really know what he was watching in that fourth round. But without seeming like too much of a complainer, all you can do is focus on what you can control and that’s all in the rear view at this point.

“At the time I definitely felt that I had done enough. I think that people agree with me and I’m kind of sick of hearing it from everybody too, it sucks, we’re all in the same boat except I didn’t get my win-side money and that doesn’t come back.”

Kattar would add it wasn’t just a natural bias for his own performance, pointing to the statistics to bolster his claim.

It hurts,” Kattar said. “Like you said, I’m not undefeated. It’s not like I’ve never lost a fight, I get what that feels like and it sucks. But to actually think you’ve done enough to win the fight. Emmett had 21 stitches in his left eye, I had no lacerations. I out-struck him 30 plus strikes, so even off a numbers standpoint, it’s a little tougher to swallow. You get half the money and felt like you did enough to win, let alone all the title qualifications that can go on the back end of it.

Arnold Allen believes that he has done enough to earn a top contender.

Allen is currently undefeated in the UFC with a perfect record of 9-0, and is coming off a big win over Dan Hooker. Allen is currently on a path towards challenging for the Featherweight title.

A top five fighter in the division is what’s next for the rising contender. He is currently the sixth ranked fighter in the division. A matchup against Calvin Kattar or Josh Emmett may be in the cards for Allen.

Arnold Allen’s dominance has earned himself a shot at a top contender

“Anyone in that top five,” Allen said backstage at UFC Fight Night 208 in London this past Saturday. “I’m 9-0 in the UFC. I don’t even know my record total, but it’s pretty good I think. I feel like I deserve or if anyone deserves to fight upwards, it’s probably me. I’m 9-0 in the UFC. I just finished Dan Hooker. Give me somebody in that top five – any of them.” (Transcribed by MMAJunkie)

Allen would like to test himself in a five round fight, so the Brit may be looking to headline a Fight Night in the near future. Allen is one of the best strikers in the division, to go along with fantastic grappling.

“The one thing I really want is to try and get a five-rounder,” Allen said. “My aspirations are title fights, and it would be pretty sh*t to go into a title fight never fighting a five-rounder. But if there’s a three-rounder going and that’s all there is for the end of the year, then that is what it is.”

Allen wants to take the next step and is ready to prove he is an elite level fighter. He had even brought up the possibility of an interim title match, with Alexander Volkanovski possibly being sidelined for an extended period.

Urijah Faber was not happy with the UFC’s treatment of Josh Emmett.

This past Sunday, UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber was at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 2 grappling tournament. ‘The California Kid’ previewed the upcoming matchup between Song Yadong and Cory Sandhagen.

Further, Faber claimed that Josh Emmett was not treated properly at the event.

Urijah Faber claims Josh Emmett was ghosted

Josh Emmett is coming off a hard-earned win over Calvin Kattar at UFC on ESPN 37. Emmett, who trains at Team Alpha Male, was present for the PPV event along with many other fighters as well as athletes currently on the roster. However, it appears that he did not receive the hospitality he was afforded.

“I was super disappointed and Josh was also, in the fact that he wasn’t treated that great this last week,” Faber said. “We were expecting him to be there, sidelines. He’s beaten so many guys in dominant fashion, he’s had some major injuries, and he needs that fight next for the 145 pound belt.

“He’s the guy that can match up well with [Alexander] Volkanovski, who can pack a punch that puts people out cold with one punch, he can handle volume, he’s wrestled his whole life, wrestled in college. That’s the match-up,” Faber told media at the Invitational. He added, “Josh is the guy. We were hoping to get the camera on him watching the event, and to be honest, it was kind of a mishap, but he had a really bad experience.” (h/t Cageside Press)

According to Urijah Faber, Emmett was treated like he was unwelcome at the occasion. He was exiled to the back rows and cut out from any air time on the broadcast.

“(Emmett) was put way back in the seating, not even with the rest of the guys and had to find his way by himself upstairs because they have peons working security that are getting paid minimum wage that are like, ‘Hey, you can’t come this way.’ He’s not a confrontational guy unless you’re paying him to beat someone up.

“He was really upset that there wasn’t more made of the fact that he’s the guy in line. I’m going to talk to Dana [White] about it and talk to Hunter [Campbell] and let them know that it’s really bullsh*t.”

Faber further shared Emmett’s reaction to the whole debacle as he felt like he was being treated undeservedly.

“Last night, he was like ‘F-this, I wish they’d just release me, I get no respect, blah blah blah. I think I’m going to drop down to 135 to fight Sean O’Malley, because that’s who’s getting all the credit,’” Faber said.

“Nothing, ghosted. It’s really sad and his wife was livid, he was livid and he was just like, ‘What do I have to do to get a little bit of respect?’’ Faber added. “So Dana, I hope you see this and understand that it’s Josh’s time.”

Aljamain Sterling Backs Josh Emmett For Title Shot After UFC Austin Win: ‘He’s Gotta Be A Shoo-In’

Josh EmmettUndisputed UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling has backed UFC Austin main event victor, Josh Emmett to possibly land a featherweight title shot off the back of his close, split decision (47-48, 48-47, 48-47) win against Calvin Kattar over the weekend, insisting the Sacramento native may have struck gold with the timing of his victory. Undisputed UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling has backed UFC Austin main event victor, Josh Emmett to possibly land a featherweight title shot off the back of his close, split decision (47-48, 48-47, 48-47) win against Calvin Kattar over the weekend, insisting the Sacramento native may have struck gold with the timing of his victory.

Headlining the Moody Center event in the ‘Lone Star State’, Emmett managed to squeak out a close, split decision against Kattar, surviving a late fourth and fifth round rally from the Massachusetts native en route to his fifth consecutive win.

Following the judging success, Emmett called for a title shot of his own – insisting that he wants to be present front row for next weekend’s UFC 276 co-headliner between featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, and former titleholder, Max Holloway’s trilogy title fight.

“I got one more thing to say, there’s a huge title fight in two weeks,” Josh Emmett said during his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “I want to be sitting cagseside to see who I’m fighting next. Dana (White), give me my shot. (Max) Holloway and (Alexander) Volkanovski are arguably some of the best featherweights of all time. So much respect for them but they need some new blood in the division, and I can get it done.”

Aljamain Sterling backs Josh Emmett to potentially land a title challenge

Receiving backing from bantamweight champion, Sterling, the Uniondale native theorized that the timing regarding Emmett’s victory over Kattar may aline him for his premier title shot during his Octagon stint.

“(Josh) Emmett, tough dude, I mean, I do think him getting the next shot – split decision, but I still think he’s the guy that’s right there,” Aljamain Sterling said of Josh Emmett on his YouTube channel. “Zabit (Magomedsharipov) just retired, so I don’t know who else would be in that title conversation after Max Holloway (vs.) Alexander Volkanovski 3. It’s a very tricky situation for the featherweight division. …”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen next, but I think Emmett has to be a shoo-in for the next title shot, just in my personal opinion,” Aljamain Sterling explained. “I don’t think that was his best performance, but then what is a best performance in comparison to fighting one of the top guys in the world, you know.”
