After losing the title to Rose Namajunas at last November’s UFC 217, former dominant UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk began a veritable media tour explaining why a botched, drastic weight cut was to blame for her first-round knockout loss to ‘Thug.’

She detailed her experience of having to cut 15 pounds in only 14 hours before the fight, leading to her experiencing numbness in her legs and ultimately firing her nutritionists, Perfecting Athletes.

But that wasn’t all.

Yesterday, Jedrzejczyk doubled down on the blame game by claiming that her doctor had failed her before the fight, creating a web of finger pointing that really could not be quantified, and also one that was a moot point by now. Jedrzejczyk will meet Namajunas again in an immediate rematch at April 7’s UFC 223 from Brooklyn and will have her chance to quiet her doubters by winning back her coveted belt.

Until then, however, her detractors are going to keep doubting her blaming. One such person is UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje, who, as a friend of Namajunas, may be a bit biased but also knows the ins and outs of the fight game himself. “The Highlight” recently discussed Jedrzejczyk’s recent blaming with MMA Fighting, noting that cutting weight is simply part of a fighter’s job, making the blame fall solely on her at the end of the day.

To him, it was weak-minded to publicly bring it up:

“I don’t know her or what happened to her, so I can’t judge her for it. I think she’s weak-minded for saying it, even if it is true. It’s her own business. And no matter what, it could be true to the core and you could have proof, who’s going to [care]? Like, I’m not going to support you. Okay, whose fault was it? At the end of the day, whose fault was it? It was your fault. Do you have a scale at your house? Then you get to step on the scale every single morning, just like every single one of us do. We worry about our weight the whole camp, and I’ve never had a nutritionist help me in my entire life.

“I made weight in college eating McDonalds every day. It’s willpower. You either f*cking do it or you don’t do it. Like, the nutritionist does not cut the weight for you. And yeah, it could be detrimental to your performance, so if she did cut a tremendous amount of weight, then I’m sure that she suffered tremendously, and I am excited to see Rose fight the best Joanna whenever she doesn’t f*ck up and f*ck her weight cut up.”

Gaethje clarified his stance on the matter, adding that Jedrzejczyk knew Namajunas had cut and made weight, ultimately making whatever reason for her miss an excuse:

“Because she knows that Rose cut weight. She knows that Rose made weight. And at the end of the day, it is an excuse. Even if it’s fact, it’s still an excuse, because it was still her fault. So, I mean, as a wrestler — I’m not calling Joanna weak-minded, I’m saying that statement is weak-minded.”

Fans will see whether or not Jedrzejczyk’s insistence on passing the blame is real or not when she rematches Namajunas in just over a month. While Gaethje acknowledges her skill as one of the best in her class, he also believes Namajunas will prove her first win was no fluke because she has the former ‘Joanna Champion’ figured out:

“It’s a fight. [Jedrzejczyk] is one of the highest-level fighters in that weight class in the world,” Gaethje said. “Anybody in the top-five can beat each other on any given night in this sport. So I think she has a possibility (to win), but I don’t think — she can’t just go and change her whole (style). She can’t change the way her feet move. And Rose beat her because of the way her feet move, because she could time the way her feet move, and Rose is going to do the same thing with her feet.

“She’ll get her reaching, and then she’ll get her overreaching, then she’ll come in while she’s overreaching and capitalize. There’s no other way for it to go.”

The UFC has announced two fan favorite fights for one of their upcoming events.

The promotion announced on Friday afternoon that former WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje would fight fellow lightweight contender Dustin Poirier as well as a welterweight bout between Carlos Condit and Matt Brown. These fights are slated to take place at UFC on FOX 29 (UFC Glendale).

Going into Brown’s bout against Diego Sanchez on the main card of UFC Fight Night 120, he was on a three-fight stoppage skid and made it clear that this would be his retirement fight. As seen in the fight, he broke that losing streak by landing a devastating elbow strike to knock out the always tough Sanchez.

Just four years ago, they were booked against each other at UFC on FOX 9, but Brown sustained a back injury that forced him out of the fight. The bout never got re-booked.

Gaethje has been up and down under the UFC banner as he scored a TKO win over Michael Johnson while he lost by second-round TKO to fellow The Ultimate Fighter 26 coach Eddie Alvarez last month at UFC 218.

On the flip side, Poirier came back strong after his recent no-contest against Alvarez by scoring a third-round TKO win over Anthony Pettis in November.

The event is slated to take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The main card will air on FOX at while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 at and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

The “Just Bleed” Gods may be blessing fight fans with another stellar display of violence.

Inside sources confirmed to MMAJunkie that Dustin Poirier will reportedly fight Justin Gaethje sometime in the spring of 2018. Poirier initially wanted a rematch with Eddie Alvarez, who happened to be the first man to beat Gaethje at UFC 218 last month.

While the Alvarez rematch is off the table for now, Poirier vs Gaethje is an incredible fight between two competitors with as much power as they have heart.

Since moving to lightweight, Poirier has been on a roll with few hiccups. He most recently finished former champion Anthony Pettis to put him back into title contention after a knockout loss to Michael Johnson and a controversial no contest against Alvarez at last May’s UFC 211.

Conversely, Gaethje debuted against Johnson and TKO’d him in a rousing war of attrition. His subsequent loss to Alvarez leads us to the matchup with Poirier, a fellow adherent to unbridled violence.

While the bout has yet to be confirmed, both men are certainly looking to reestablish themselves in an ever-changing lightweight division. With current champ Conor McGregor on the verge of being stripped and Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson likely set for the undisputed title, there’s plenty of room for fresh blood at 155 pounds.

And you better believe if and when these two enter the cage together, much blood will be shed.

Kevin Lee wants to be a different fighter in 2018 and is making big changes to do so.

After a disappointing loss in an interim lightweight title fight against Tony Ferguson at UFC 216, Lee has his sights set on a banner year and already has his next opponent in mind.

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM, Lee revealed some big changes he’s making to his fight game:

“I’m taking some time, I’m changing up my whole style. I’m changing up my team around me. You know, there have been a lot of things happening, especially at the end of this last year, unfortunately, that I’ve had to make changes (for). But it’s a new me, it’s a new start, when I come back the folks are going to see a new me.”

Lee then mentioned Gaethje as a possible dance partner, who himself is coming off of a deflating knockout loss to Eddie Alvarez, which happens to be the first loss of Gaethje’s career.

But with both men still hovering around the top five and top ten of the division, a win for either man would certainly put them back into title contention. For Lee, he see’s the matchup as more than favorable:

“I mean, absolutely. I think the best thing about 155 is that there are so many options. The division is right open now. I don’t know, we’ll see. If it’s going to be against Justin, I like easy money. Justin likes to take a lot of damage. I like to give a lot of damage – it seems like a good match to me.”

But overall, Lee isn’t sure Gaethje should get right back in the cage against him due to the damage he’s sustained in his last two UFC bout against Eddie Alvarez and Michael Johnson:

“I’m trying to look out for Justin’s health, too. He needs some time, too. The man has taken a lot of bad beatings over the last couple of months. I don’t think he wants another one right here, right now.“

Would you like to see Lee and Gaethje duke it out? Who would win a battle between them?

Justin Gaethje is without question one of the most exciting fighters on the UFC roster.

Since making his promotional debut earlier this year, the former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) lightweight champion has taken part in two of the best fights of 2017: a bout against Michael Johnson that he won via second round TKO this past July and a bout against Eddie Alvarez that he lost via third round knockout last month.

Despite the loss, Gaethje will certainly be booked in another big fight, and he revealed on today’s edition of The MMA Hour that he’d like to fight Kevin Lee next:

“We will see, but I want to beat up Kevin Lee,” Gaethje said. “That’s who I really want to beat up. I just like punching loudmouths in the face,” he said. “First and only time I met I was nice, then he started talking shit that I was fanboying over him. He doesn’t understand what showing people respect is. I will never show him respect again that’s for sure.”

According to Gaethje, the two first met at a press conference last summer where he claims that Lee looked like a ‘kung fu star’:

“I had no idea who he was. He looked like a kung fu star. I thought he was a movie star,” he said.

Similar to Gaethje, Lee is also coming off of a loss, as he was stopped by interim 155-pound champion Tony Ferguson this past October. However, he remains a highly skilled fighter, and one of the most entertaining personalities in the UFC.

Would you like to see Gaethje and Lee do battle next?
