Tyron Woodley has some wise words of advice for former training partner-turned-foe Colby Covington.

Covington has been at odds with the UFC and President Dana White after losing his 170-pound title opportunity. White has said that Covington will have to re-earn the title shot after being unable to agree on a date to fight Woodley for the undisputed welterweight title. Now, Covington has been daring the UFC to cut him from the roster, and also went as far as threatening to sue the promotion.

Speaking on the topic recently, Woodley said he believes “Chaos” is just making matters worse with that rhetoric (via Bloody Elbow):

“He’s making it worse. Take it from me,” Woodley said. “Just kick ass. Don’t worry about going head-to-head, don’t worry about going back and forth, because at the end of the day, you have to recognize that this is their show.

“And they’re allowing us to be out here and fight and really have this platform, and know it’s not gonna always work out well for you when you go take that direction.”

He’ll Learn?

At the end of the day, Woodley could care less about Covington’s issues with the UFC. In the champ’s perspective, Covington put himself in this position. He also notes that the only reason Covington’s antics have gained him any sort of notoriety is because fans were forced to listen with top stars like Ronda Rousey, Jon Jones, and Conor McGregor out of the picture:

“He’ll learn. But who really feels bad for him, if you really think about it?” he said. “Anybody crying ‘Oh my god, they’re doing Colby so wrong?’ He talked himself into the position he was in.

“He was in Fight Pass before – Fight Pass in Asia only if you really want to be honest, he never even fought for FOX or any pay-per-view. Then he started talking. The only reason people listen is because Conor was gone, Jon was gone, Ronda was gone, and we needed to be entertained.

“So we just allowed it to happen, and that same mouth got him taken out of a couple of title shots.”

UFC Veteran offers his prediction for the next big showdown involving the UFC welterweight title. UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is slated to make his next title defense against Kamaru Usman in the co-headliner of the UFC 235 pay-per-view event.

Many people believed that Usman should’ve been in the running for a title shot after his latest win. This includes UFC President Dana White, so this fight was booked.

Former title contender Demian Maia gave his take on this upcoming title fight during a recent interview with MMAJunkie. This is where he made it known that he thinks Woodley retains the strap but Usman will be champion in the near future.

“It’s an extremely tough fight to call,” Maia said. “To be coherent with what I’ve said, I believe that Woodley, for all that he’s shown, is a slight favorite. But I have a feeling, I don’t know why – I mean, I do know why, because I fought him. (Usman) is a very well-rounded guy. Aggressive at the right times, but he also knows how to apply the rules. I think Usman will still be champion. I don’t know if it’s now, or within one year, I believe he will be champion some day.”

“Maybe if I talk with them I will know better, but I don’t know what’s going on,” Maia said. “And also Tyron, he wants to fight at some specific times. He always tries to push the best time for him and the other opponents get annoyed. They want to sometimes give a short camp to the guy and Colby didn’t accept. I don’t know how the negotiation was. So it’s hard to say. And it’s a game. Tyron is doing his game and they’re doing their game and we don’t know what is happening behind the scenes.”

The UFC 235 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, March 2, 2019 in at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will air on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET and the UFC’s streaming service, Fight Pass.

Ben Askren furthers his heated feud with top welterweight contender Kamaru Usman after their recent incident.

Their beef all started once they got into a minor altercation backstage before the UFC 235 presser last week. Askren has gone on record by stating that Usman threatened him.

On the flip side, Usman claimed he was keeping things real considering their history has taken place over the last few months.

Askren reacted to the video of this incident being released during an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani on his MMA show.

“Can you believe Marty put this video out?” Askren said (H/T to MMAFighting). “This video makes him look like a dumb-dumb and it was his camera person that put it out! He is bragging about this and this is what I can’t stand about fighters. Listen, we get that you’re tough. You fight in a cage. I understand that perfectly, but he has to come up to me, [when] you know nothing is going to happen back there, Marty! Why are you getting in my face? You know you’re not gonna risk your main event shot by punching me in the back hallway.

“Give me a freaking break. I couldn’t fathom why he was trying to act so tough and what he was trying to do or get out of the situation. If it was intimidation, that’s freakin’ laughable. Look at his skinny jeans! You can’t be acting tough when you’re in white skinny jeans and a scarf.”

Askren continued by stating that he thinks he’s under the skin of Usman and thus, he got mad.

“I am under your skin so bad that I say one thing – I said, ‘Am I sitting next to Marty?’ and he got all pissed,” Askren said. “And the funny thing is, he’s not even like, ‘Marty’s not my name, don’t call me Marty.’ . . He’s not even denying that Marty is his name so I don’t even know what he’s mad about! What is he mad about? I’m so far under his skin and so far in his head it’s not even funny.”

Ben Askren and Kamaru Usman’s issues with one another continue.

Earlier today (Mon. February 4, 2019) Askren joined “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.” During the program, Askren was asked about his recent verbal altercation with Kamaru Usman. “Funky” said he’s so far under his skin and so far into his head that it’s not even funny:

Also during the program, Askren said he has a photo of Usman with a curly-haired wig while wearing a “Funky” t-shirt. He promised to post it a few minutes after his interview with Helwani wrapped up. Being a man of his word, Askren followed up with the following on Twitter, trolling Usman:

It’s interesting that Askren and Usman are focusing so much on one another right now. They both have world-class opponents in front of them next. At UFC 235, both welterweights will compete inside the Octagon. Askren makes his promotional debut against former 170-pound king Robbie Lawler. That’s quite a tall task for your UFC debut.

As for Usman, he has a welterweight title opportunity ahead of him. He’ll be facing Tyron Woodley in the co-main event for the UFC welterweight championship. UFC 235 goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 2, 2019. At the recent UFC 235 press conference, Askren and Usman exchanged words with one another.

They also got into an altercation backstage before the presser began. You can check that out here.
