Ben Askren puts Kamaru Usman on blast during a recent rant that he did in an Instagram post that he sent out to the followers. UFC President Dana White has stated that he would like to see Usman challenge Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title. This is a change in his tune as for months now, Colby Covington has been the #1 contender.

Many people believe that Usman should be in the running for a title shot after his latest win. Now, Usman has been calling for a fight against Covington if he can’t get a title shot. There is some doubt of Woodley right now due to him not being cleared to compete due to his recent surgery. The promotion has been targeting Woodley vs. Covington for the first quarter of 2019.

Askren already has his first fight under the UFC banner booked. He’ll meet former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler at the upcoming UFC 233 event. Despite already having a fight lined up, Askren took to Instagram to call out Usman. In his mind, he thinks Usman is attempting to avoid fighting him in favor of pursuing a number one contender bout with Covington.

Askren Has A Problem

“Mr. Usman, we find ourselves in a situation where you are looking like quite the hypocrite,” Askren said (H/T to MMAFighting). “As we all know, Mr. Tyron Woodley is injured, can’t fight Colby. We know you want to fight Colby. We know Colby’s a scared little b*tch, and that’s fine. But I have made my services available to you for a fight on January 26. Now you’re trying to play the same game as Colby is. Colby’s ignoring you, now you’re ignoring me.”

UFC 233 takes place on January 26, 2019, at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Covington thinks Usman is being less of a man like Covington for trying to do this.

“Listen, I know you hear me because you have a measly little 30,000 Twitter followers. A tiny amount of the social media following that I do,” Askren said. “I know you hear me, Marty. So make sure you respond to this. Don’t be a hypocrite, don’t be a little b*tch like Colby. I’ll be there, January 26. I hope you’re there also.”

Kamaru Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has teased of a possible interim title fight between Usman and Ben Askren.

The UFC’s welterweight title picture is a mess and it looks like it could be getting messier. The promotion originally wanted to book champion Tyron Woodley vs. No. 1 contender Colby Covington on Jan. 26 at UFC 233. However, with the champion seemingly playing hardball, it looks as if the UFC has moved on.

Adding to the mess that is the welterweight division was Abdelaziz. The outspoken manager tweeted this earlier today:

If
@Benaskren wants to fight @USMAN84kg for an interim belt you got it buddy we in ufc has good health insurance

Askren is already booked for his UFC debut. He will be taking on Robbie Lawler at UFC 233. But that didn’t stop the king of one-liners from delivering his latest burn.

Lol glad your client has good health insurance bc I don’t need it.

Abdelaziz would do his best to keep up with Askren.

Listen you’re an undefeated world champion much respect but this is the big show what are you gonna do when you can’t take Usman down? Somebody should call 911 because you’re gonna be in big trouble #

call uncle @

Of course “Funky” gets the last word.

Take him down and beat him up like everyone else. Ali you are working in a world of faulty assumptions.

Since joining the UFC Askren has been on a verbal warpath. Time will tell if he can back his words up inside the steepist prooving ground in MMA.

Kamaru Usman Explains Why He Wants Colby Covington Over Title Fight

Kamaru Usman explains why he is looking to get his next fight booked against Colby Covington instead of a UFC welterweight title shot.

Kamaru Usman explains why he wants to fight Colby Covington instead of getting a title shot as his next fight under the UFC banner.

Many people believe that Usman should be in the running for a title shot after his latest win. He’s fresh off a win over former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale.

It was a dominating performance that continued his ninth straight victory inside the octagon. Before this fight, he was able to defeat former title contender Demian Maia by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Chile.

This led to UFC President Dana White stating that he would like to see Usman challenge Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title. It turns out that Usman told TMZ Sports in a recent interview that he was offered a certain fight. A contest against the welterweight contender in January.

“I’m gonna go out there and knock out Colby Covington,” Usman said (H/T to MMAFighting).” That right now is the fight. The UFC just called and they offered us the fight. They said Colby Covington in January. You know what I’m gonna do. Of course I accepted. For the fifth time, I’ve accepted the fight. Right now we’re just waiting on him.”

Kamaru Usman Explains His Mindset

The general belief for months now was that once Woodley was cleared to compete again after having his latest surgery then he would fight Covington. This would be his next title defense and expected to take place in the first quarter of 2019. That may change should Usman get his way, which is something that he’s destined to achieve.

“There comes a time where what we do in our careers where we get that one guy. That guy that just makes your blood boil. That really pulls the real savage out of you,” Usman said. “I have to touch him. I have to. I’ve got to bless this dude with my hands. I’ve got to bless him. It’ll be a little sour taste in my mouth to win the belt, win multiple times. Then retire knowing I didn’t put my hands on this dude.”
