UFC Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has landed himself an acting gig, as he will be appearing in the upcoming Marvel movie ‘Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever.’

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ will be appearing on the big screen Nov. 11, according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz. Usman will join Georges St-Pierre as the second UFC champion to make it into an MCU movie. St-Pierre appeared in both “Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier” and as well as Disney+ show “Falcon and The Winter Soldier”. Both ironically are considered to be the two greatest Welterweight fighters of all time.

Usman will join a fantastic cast that is headlined by Letitia Wright (Shuri), Angela Bassett (Ramonda), Tenoch Huerta (Namor), and many more. The first film took theaters by storm, and was a turning point in modern cinema. Ryan Coogler is set to return and direct the sequel, but due to the tragic and untimely death of Chadwick Boseman, who expertly played the lead role in the first film, T’Challa will not be returning. It is still unknown as of now how big a role Kamaru Usman will be playing in the movie.

Kamaru Usman is gearing up for another title defense at UFC 278 in Salt Lake City, Utah

At UFC 278, Kamaru Usman will be taking on Leon Edwards for the second time in his career. Usman beat Edwards back in 2015 via unanimous decision. Both he and Edwards have both drastically improved their game since their first bout. Usman has become a fairly dangerous striker, as he has finished three of his five title defenses by KO/TKO.

Since their first meeting, Edwards has gone seven years without losing, while beating high-level fighters like Rafael dos Anjos, Vicente Luque, and Nate Diaz. Edwards has improved drastically and his striking is very sharp. Former title challenger and top five fighter in the division Gilbert Burns even believes that ‘Rocky’ has the skillset to dethrone the champ.

Khamzat Chimaev’s Coach Reveals Plan For Back-To-Back Fights With Kamaru Usman & Israel Adesanya

The rumored fight between Khamzat Chimaev (11-0) and Nate Diaz (20-13) is on. The two welterweights will main event UFC 279 on Sept. 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Chimaev’s coach, Andreas Michael, was glad the 28-year-old found a challenger who is a big name and star in the UFC.

“It’s a perfect fight for us because we’re fighting a named opponent… we want to fight the best,” Michael told Submission Radio. “I would like us to fight against the best because to be the best, you have to beat the best and that’s a dying ideology nowadays.”

Diaz last fought at UFC 263 in a unanimous decision loss against Leon Edwards. He has back-to-back losses against Edwards and Jorge Masvidal. Michael, the head coach of Allstars Training Camp, is not underestimating the Stockton native.

“He gave Leon a tough fight. He’s at no means an easy opponent for us,” Michael said. “It’s a good name. He’s a veteran of the game that has fought everyone and anyone. It’s a good experience and we’re not taking him lightly.”

Michael went on to state that he hopes Chimaev will be able to face off against Kamaru Usman (or Leon Edwards if he wins at UFC 277) next, before making the move up to middleweight for a bout against the winner of Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira.

“I think that we would like to, me personally – I cannot talk about what Khamzat would like – but I would like to fight the winner of Leon or Usman,” Michael stated. “That would be a very tough fight for both guys. (Fight) the winner of that one, and then move up directly. And if (Israel) Adesanya’s still the champion (at middleweight) after he fights (Alex) Pereira, which is a monster that guy, then we would fight the champ there – whoever is the champ there. I believe, in a perfect world for us, that’s how it would look. But you know, fighting is unpredictable.”

Khamzat Chimaev Is The Odds-On Favorite Over Nate Diaz

Some fighters and fans are convinced that Chimaev is a bad matchup for Diaz, who is fighting his last bout on his UFC contract. Michael believes the fight is rewarding for both Chimaev and Diaz.

“At no means is it not beneficial for Nate because for him to accept this fight, you can understand he got paid or he’s getting paid. He’s not going to accept this fight out of nowhere,” Michael said. It’s beneficial for him as well as it is for us and it’s a good fight.”

Chimaev has been on a roll in the UFC. He made an early impact in a two-month span in 2020 where he earned three-straight finishes. Then, he turned his attention to the top-15 of the welterweight division. He secured a submission win over Li Jingliang and went five rounds with Gilbert Burns.

After the win over Burns, rumors were circulating on potential opponents for Chimaev, including Colby Covington. Michael is confident that a fight with Diaz brings more attention and revenue than a matchup with Covington.

“I’d rather have this fight, it’s a bigger draw. This fight is a big event,” Michael said. “It is an event that sells more at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas. What more can you ask for against one of the biggest names in the UFC?”

Khamzat Chimaev insists that he is willing to make a return to the middleweight limit of 185lbs should welterweight kingpin, Kamaru Usman elect to sit out should he defeat incoming title challenger, Leon Edwards in August.

Khamzat Chimaev, who returns to the Octagon himself in September, headlines UFC 279 against one-time lightweight title challenger and sport veteran, Nate Diaz – in search of his sixth UFC victory from six Octagon walks.

The Chechen bruiser most recently featured at UFC 273 back in April against former welterweight championship chaser, Gilbert Burns, scoring the most high-profile victory of his Octagon tenure to date with a unanimous decision effort.

As for Diaz, the Stockton fan-favorite will complete his contractual obligations when his five round headliner with Chimaev concludes on September 10. – as the veteran plans his exit from the promotion to boot.

Khamzat Chimaev appears willing to accommodate the welterweight champion post-UFC 279

#3 ranked welterweight contender, Chimaev has, however, opened the door to a middleweight division return should he defeat Diaz, and Usman defeats Edwards – amid consistent rumblings of clashes with both Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira.

“After (Nate) Diaz, maybe I’m gonna go up (to middleweight),” Khamzat Chimaev told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “If (Kamaru) Usman wanna wait a long time, maybe I’m gonna go up to ‘84 (sic) and fight somebody there – because I wanna take both belts.”

Expected to likely challenge for welterweight gold with a victory over Diaz in two months’ time, Chimaev, as mentioned earlier, has been continually linked with a middleweight outing against either champion, Adesanya, or fellow berserker – Pereira – who themselves are expected to meet in a middleweight title offing before the conclusion of 2022.

During his promotional-perfect tenure, Chimaev has landed a quintet of John Philips, Rhys McKee, Gerald Meerschaert, Li Jingliang, and the aforenoted, Burns.
