UFC bantamweight contender Ketlen Vieira would like to see former UFC champion Amanda Nunes go out on top.

Vieira is set to face another former UFC champion, Holly Holm, tonight in the UFC Vegas 55 headliner. She’s coming off of a unanimous decision win over Miesha Tate last November.

Nunes lost her bantamweight title to Julianna Peña at UFC 269 last December. She will face Peña in an immediate title rematch later this year following their time coaching opposite one another on the current season of The Ultimate Fighter.

During her UFC Vegas 55 pre-fight media scrum, Vieira praised Nunes for her accomplishments and gave an ideal version of how Nunes should eventually walk away from MMA.

“I’m cheering for Amanda,” Vieira said. “There are some saying that she might retire soon, she doesn’t know her plans. But (I) would love to see her retire as a champion. She deserves that because of her history in the sport and everything she’s done. (I’m) going to cheer for Amanda.”

Vieira could be on the verge of entering the bantamweight title picture with another win. She has picked up wins over Cat Zingano, Ashlee Evans-Smith, and Sara McMann during her UFC tenure.

Nunes remains the UFC featherweight champion but it’s unclear if and when she’ll defend that belt. Regardless, Vieira believes it’s important for the greatest female UFC fighter to end her career on her terms.

Do you agree with Ketlen Vieira? Will Amanda Nunes retire as a champion?

Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm has explained what will be on the line when she returns to action tonight.

After a 19-month layoff, Holm is finally set to resume her quest for a second title reign in tonight’s UFC Vegas 55 main event, which will see her go toe-to-toe with rising contender Ketlen Vieira.

In her last outing, Holm recorded a second consecutive victory with a win against Irene Aldana on Abu Dhabi’s Fight Island. The result set the former champ on her first win streak since her unblemished 10-0 record was tainted by Miesha Tate in 2016.

Having hit her best form since losing the belt, “The Preacher’s Daughter” is looking to cement her place as number one contender, making her next outing crucial in her pursuit of gold.

Holm: I Need This Win To Progress Forward

During UFC Vegas 55 media day on Wednesday, Holm described what will be on the line when she makes her long-awaited return.

As well as her ever-present desire to have her hand raised and avoid defeat at all costs, the 40-year-old sees her clash with Vieira as key in ensuring that she can make her way back to within touching distance of the bantamweight belt.

“I have to win regardless, because I hate to lose anyway. I just hate to lose, period, no matter what’s on the line,” said Holm. “I wanna win the rounds when I’m in training. If I’m in front of two people, if I’m in front of two million, if I’m in front of the whole world, I wanna win. I hate to lose. So, that’s number one, I wanna get in there and I wanna win Saturday.

“But, also, as far as a career, if you don’t win, your next steps and your next options are never as many as you want, or they’re more limited. You take a step back, not a step forward,” added Holm. “So, yes, in the long run, I need this win so I can keep progressing forward, because I wanna get to the belt.”

While Holm has one eye on the championship picture, inserting her name into it will be no easy task. The #6-ranked Vieira has already stalled the resurgence of one former champion in Tate and will be looking to do the same in her second consecutive main event assignment.

Who do you think will emerge victorious in the UFC Vegas 55 main event, Holly Holm or Ketlen Vieira?

Ketlen Vieira: It’s A Dream Come True To Face Former Champion Holm

UFC women’s bantamweight Ketlen Vieira is excited to have the opportunity to share the Octagon with former champion Holly Holm.

At UFC Vegas 55 tonight, two elite 135lbers will collide in the main event. On one side will be Holm, who held gold on MMA’s biggest stage after brutally knocking the then-dominant Ronda Rousey out at UFC 193 in 2015.

Having quickly lost the belt and had a turbulent time in the cage since, “The Preacher’s Daughter” will be looking to extend her current strong form and secure herself a sixth UFC championship fight.

Looking to spoil those dreams will be rising contender Vieira. The Brazilian rose to #6 on the bantamweight ladder last time out with a headline win against the woman who dethroned Holm in 2016, Miesha Tate.

Having already added the name of one former titleholder to her blossoming résumé, Vieira is relishing the opportunity to make it back-to-back in that regard this Saturday in Las Vegas.

Vieira: ‘I Admire Holm A Lot’

During her appearance at UFC Vegas 55 media day on Wednesday, Vieira spoke about what it meant to be chosen for the main event spotlight in back-to-back Octagon outings. She also revealed her admiration for upcoming opponent Holm, describing a bout against the 40-year-old as a “dream come true.”

“I always dreamed about being a main event in the UFC, and now I have the opportunity to do it again with another elite athlete,” said Vieira. “It’s a dream come true for me… I have the chance to face Holly Holm, who is somebody that I admire a lot… I was very grateful when I heard her name.

“I used to watch her fights well beyond I realized my dream to be in the UFC. I watched her fight against Ronda when she shocked the world,” recalled Vieira. “For me, it’s like, a dream come true to be able to face another former champion who I admire so much. I have a lot of faith in myself and this is a great opportunity.”

Vieira will have to put her admiration for “The Preacher’s Daughter” to one side if she’s to take Holm’s #2 placement in the women’s bantamweight division with a win tonight.

While the former champion has been unable to recapture top spot since her reign seven years ago, she still poses the same fight-ending weapons that helped her shock the world back in 2015.

Do you think Ketlen Vieira will add the name of another former champion to her record at UFC Vegas 55?
