LowKick MMA will be bringing you UFC Vegas 19: Blaydes vs. Lewis results throughout the afternoon (Sun. 20th. February 2021) from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rescheduled for tonight’s main event, heavyweight contenders, Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis finally square off following the cancellation of their first attempted pairing back in November at UFC Vegas 15 amid a positive COVID-19 test result from the former.

Hoping to continue on his quest to his premier promotional title challenge, Lewis, like Blaydes headlines his second event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas — following his June unanimous decision victory over the recent feature, Alexander Volkov.

For New Orleans favourite, Lewis, a victory over the #2 ranked Blaydes would surely guarantee him his second title challenge under the UFC’s banner. Featuring in August of last year in a main event slot against common-foe, Aleksei Olienik, Lewis became the most prolific knockout artist in the history of the UFC’s heavyweight division, notching his eleventh stoppage via strikes.

In a co-main event matchup, Brazilian striker, Ketlen Vieira is rebooked to match with former Invicta FC bantamweight champion and one-time UFC featherweight title challenger, Yana Kunitskaya. Tipping the bantamweight scales at yesterday’s weigh-ins, Vieira was fined twenty percent of her fight purse, with the matchup proceeding at a 138-pound catchweight limit.

Manaus native, Vieira returned to the Octagon following her first promotional loss back in December of 2019 — taking a unanimous decision victory over Sijara Eubanks at UFC 252 last September.

Also returning to the win-column following a knockout loss of her own, Kunitskaya managed a unanimous judging win of her own against Julija Stoliarenko at UFC Vegas 6 in August.

It looks like the UFC are still eager to see Ketlen Vieira and Yana Kunitskaya throw down. With the two bantamweights scheduled to fight for the third time at UFC fight night Feb. 20. An event that still awaits a location.

Originally scheduled to fight back in August, the bantamweight match up between 7th ranked Ketlen Vieira and 8th ranked Yana Kunitskaya has been re-booked and will now take place on February 20th. With Kunitskaya announcing the bout via Instagram.

Vieira was forced to withdraw from her UFC Fight Night 174 bout due to visa issues. However, Kunitskaya (13-5-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) remained on the card and accepted a bout against late replacement and UFC newcomer Julija Stoliarenko. Kunitskaya went on to dominate Stoliarenko over 3 rounds – resulting in a unanimous decision. A victory that extends the former Invicta FC champion’s UFC record. Now a respectable 3 wins from 5 bouts. With previous victories over Lina Länsberg and Marion Reneau.

But, Vieira (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) who suffered her first career loss at the hands of Irene Aldana in Dec. 2019 bounced back with a decision victory over short-notice replacement Sijara Eubanks at UFC 253. A result that extends Vieira’s UFC record to an impressive 5 victories from 6 outings. With the Brazilian’s previous 4 wins coming against Kelly Faszholz, Ashlee Evans-Smith, Sara McMann, and Cat Zingano.

With both fighters coming off victories and currently ranked side by side within the UFC. This is a much needed fight for the women’s bantamweight division. But, a victory could propel either fighter towards a potential bout with women’s all time greatest mixed martial artist. Amanda “Lioness” Nunes for the bantamweight title.

However, lets hope third times the charm and we witness a great battle between Vieira and Kunitskaya on Feb. 20.

Who do you think goes home with the victory when Ketlen Vieira and Yana Kunitskaya fight on February 20th?

Ketlen Vieira Open To Canceling UFC 250 Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Women’s bantamweight contender Ketlen Vieira is in favor of canceling UFC 250.

UFC 250 is scheduled to take place May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and Jose Aldo.

However, there is uncertainty as to whether the card will take place given the coronavirus pandemic. Brazil has over 600 cases of the novel coronavirus with 22 out of 25 confirmed deaths coming from Sao Paulo, making it the most affected city in the nation.

Vieira — who is set to face Marion Reneau on the card — believes the event should be called off given the severity of the pandemic.

“I don’t think there will be an event in Sao Paulo, because deaths have been confirmed,” Vieira told Ag Fight (via Bloody Elbow). “We’re just waiting for the UFC to tell us something. Cancelling it would be the right thing for the UFC to do. In order to fight, I need to prepare. How can I fight if I can’t prepare? Especially in our sport, where there’s contact and I can’t touch anyone.

“There’s been no preparation because they cancelled everything. They thought it would be for the best if there were no training sessions. Nobody is training, we’re trapped home. I don’t go out for anything. I was only running and I don’t even know if I’ll be able to do that this week. We’re not allowed to go out.”

Although the UFC canceled three of its upcoming events, Dana White has planned for UFC 249 to take place outside the United States on April 18 despite growing safety concerns.

White will likely want UFC 250 to go ahead as well but for Vieira, health is paramount:

“I’m not afraid of the event getting cancelled,” she added. “I think my health and everyone else’s comes first in a situation like this. I have no problem with it being cancelled.”

What do you think of Vieira’s comments? Do you think UFC 250 will end up getting called off?

UFC 250 is taking shape.

The promotion returns to Sao Paulo, Brazil, for UFC 250 which takes place at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium on May 9.

As per MMA Fighting, heavyweights will collide as Blagoy Ivanov meets Augusto Sakai on the card. Ivanov is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Derrick Lewis at UFC 244 in November. It put a half to his two-fight winning streak.

Sakai, meanwhile, is 3-0 since debuting for the promotion as he looks to continue climbing up the ranks. He notably defeated the likes of Chase Sherman, Andrei Arlovski and Marcin Tybura.

Ketlen Vieira is also set to return to action on the card as she meets Marion Reneau in a women’s bantamweight contest. Vieira’s last outing was an emphatic knockout defeat at the hands of Irene Aldana at UFC 245 — her first professional defeat.

She will look to bounce back against Reneau who is currently on a two-fight losing streak. Her last outing was a unanimous decision defeat to Yana Kunitskaya in March last year. Both fighters have confirmed the matchup on social media.

There is no main event as of yet, but it is expected to be a bantamweight title fight between current champion Henry Cejudo and Jose Aldo.

What do you make of these fights?
