UFC welterweight Kevin Holland came to the rescue once again after a serious accident involving an 18-wheeler near his home in Texas.

Holland, who recently made a triumphant welterweight debut at UFC 272 over Alex Oliveira, has found himself in quite a few tense situations over the past year. He helped stop an active shooter at a sushi restaurant earlier this year and also helped to apprehend a local carjacker.

During a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Holland revealed how he came to the rescue of a big rig driver who was seriously hurt in a crash.

“I’m driving the Regal, the old school, kind of like my Batmobile,” Holland said. “Everyone knows Batman is my favorite character, that’s probably why I intervene in all of these things. I look over to the right hand side and this guy looked like he was trying to get on the freeway pretty quick. I looked back straight. I looked back to the right hand side and he’s sliding sideways. I’m like gosh. I pull the Regal over, glad I put the new brakes on there. Hopped out, ran over there, jumped on top, ripped the door open, got the guy out.

“I get the guy out, there’s fluids flowing out of the car, I get the guy out of the truck and I’m scared,” Holland continued. “Every other time things have happened, I’ve been calm, cool, and collected. This time, I’m scared. I’m like the truck’s going to blow up. The guy gets back in his truck! He’s like ‘I need my phone.’ I’m like bro, I got a second phone in the car, you don’t need your phone. We’ve got to go. He’s like ‘I’ve got to go get my shit.’” (h/t MMA Mania)

As Holland assisted the driver once again, a police officer responded to the incident and thought he was the one who swerved the big rig.

“So I help him get out the second time, and I’m like bro, we’ve got to go. He’s like, ‘I think I need something else out of the truck.’ I’m leaving,” Holland said. “As I turn around, there’s a cop there and I’m like, ‘Hey, what’s going on? ‘He said, ‘You tell me what’s going on — who’s driving, you or him?’ I’m like, ‘No, no no, my car is down there.’ So that’s one of those situations, I should probably stay my ass in the car.”

Holland is set to face Tim Means at an upcoming UFC Fight Night event on June 18. He’s looking to move to 2-0 since making the full-time switch to welterweight.

UFC fighters, and professional athletes in general, are often referred to as larger-than-life figures. But for Holland, he seems to be consistently finding himself in superhero situations and further proving that stereotype.

UFC welterweight, Kevin Holland, has recounted yet another heroic deed, this time the pulling a man out of a flipped tractor-trailer.

Since his breakout year in 2020, Kevin Holland has quickly become a fan favorite. With an exciting style and a ‘big mouth’, Holland is can’t miss television. Recently, though, it’s not been his in-cage antics that have captivated fans, instead it’s his acts of heroism; this time pulling a man out of an overturned vehicle.

“I’m driving down the road,” Holland said talking to MMAFighting. “Enjoying some good old 80s and 90s music, just cruising. It’s fast but it’s cruising, and then I look over to the right hand side and this guy looked like he was trying to get on the freeway pretty quick.”

“I looked back straight. I looked back to the right hand side and he’s sliding sideways. I’m like gosh. I pull the Regal over, glad I put the new brakes on there. Hopped out, ran over there, jumped on top, ripped the door open, got the guy out.”

Holland explains that unlike other situations that he has been in, he felt genuine fear this time, but the man had other plans and even returned to the truck to retrieve his belongings, only to be helped out by Holland again.

“I get the guy out, there’s fluids flowing out of the car, I get the guy out of the truck and I’m scared,” Holland said. “Every other time things have happened, I’ve been calm, cool and collected. This time, I’m scared. I’m like the truck’s going to blow up. The guy gets back in his truck! He’s like ‘I need my phone.’ I’m like bro, I got a second phone in the car, you don’t need your phone. Kevin Holland’s good deeds

Back in March of this year, Holland helped apprehend a gunman in a restaurant in his hometown of Houston.

Holland explained while eating at a restaurant a man had opened fire, letting off a shot, so Holland was quick to jump to action. While another man began to wrestle with the shooter, Holland grabbed the man, pulled him into his lap before wrapping his legs around him and applying a rear-naked choke.

“As soon as he was [asleep],” Holland said. “I let go of the choke, slid out on top, got full mount, stretched the arms out so he couldn’t reach for anything.”

The police would eventually arrive and arrest the suspect, Jesus Samaniego, who was eventually charged with deadly conduct and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Kevin Holland has announced his next fight in a very theatrical way.

Kevin Holland is ready to get back in the cage and instead of letting the news leak through the media, he has decided to announce his next bout himself. Holland has created a mini-movie-style post announcing that he will be facing Tim Means on June 18 in Austin Texas.

In his video, Holland is shown fictionally collecting his fight bonus from his most recent second-round TKO win over Alex Oliveira. When he is asked what is next, a dream sequence begins with him in a battle with a Big Bird character aka the dirty bird. “The Dirty Bird” is Tim Means’ nickname. In this video Holland does name Means directly.

“I’ll be choking my f–king chicken,” he said in the video.

The win over Oliviera got Holland back in the win column following two losses and a no contest. Holland was quickly rising up the rankings in 2020 when he secured five wins in a row that year.

Means is currently on a three-fight winning streak. He last fought a year ago to the date of his scheduled fight with Holland. He won a unanimous decision victory over Nicolas Dalby last June. Means is a veteran of the UFC, making his promotional debut back in 2012 and has been a staple in the welterweight division since his return in 2014.

The event on June 18 has yet to be scheduled a main event. Here is a list of fights on the Austin Texas fight card:

  • Julian Marquez vs. Gregory Rodrigues
  • Phil Hawes vs. Deron Winn
  • Roman Dolidze vs. Kyle Daukaus
  • Jasmine Jasudavicius vs. Natália Silva
  • Damir Ismagulov vs. Guram Kutateladze
  • JP Buys vs. Cody Durden
  • Cody Stamann vs. Eddie Wineland
  • Court McGee vs. Jeremiah Wells
  • Kevin Holland vs. Tim Means

Retired MMA fighter and former law-enforcement officer Brett Titus believes highly skilled MMA fighters have a civic duty to intervene and save lives when necessary.

Earlier this year, Kevin Holland made headlines for his heroic decision to step in and halt an active shooter in a Houston restaurant along with fellow MMA fighter Patrick Robinson. Holland’s brave decision was praised within and outside of the MMA community, as his quick-thinking and professional training no doubt saved many lives on that fateful night.

Brett Titus, an ex-MMA fighter who spent 30 years as a law enforcement officer, has apprehended many wrongdoers during his time on the force.

Speaking to The Denver Channel, Titus praised Holland and expressed how having the training at the level of “The Trailblazer” could make the ultimate difference, regardless of the hero’s specific line of work.

“If you’re skilled enough and you have that confidence and you’ve trained it, you may be able to take that adversary, that suspect in custody without having to go to that lethal force level,” Titus said.

“A guy like that is that skilled felt compelled to do it,” Titus said. “Of course, if you’re going to get to that level where he’s at in the mixed martial arts world, you’re a warrior and warriors protect.”

Although Kevin Holland has made it to the pinnacle of the sport as an established UFC fighter, Titus believes any professionally trained and high-level mixed martial artist could make the same difference. In fact, Titus argues that while sometimes it is best to let law enforcement handle these situations, it’s completely different when lives are at stake.

“It may be best just sometimes to just be a witness,” Titus said. “But if it gets to that level of actually saving lives and protecting people and you are that skilled, then in my opinion, yeah, you have to do something.”

Titus went 1-0 as an MMA pro, earning a victory via guillotine choke in 2013.

You can catch Titus in action in the video right here.

Do you agree with Brett Titus? Do MMA fighters have to intervene in a situation where lives are at risk?

Kevin Holland (22-7 MMA) displayed his heroics once again this week, however there were a few people who weren’t totally convinced.

On Monday, it had been reported that the 29-year-old managed to suppress a gunman who entered a Sushi restaurant in Houston Texas.

The ‘Trailblazer’ supposedly wrestled the man to the ground before applying the rear-naked choke, whilst law enforcement officers were able to attend the scene.

Holland’s courageous antics come just six months after helping officers apprehend a car thief after chasing the robber before taking him down.

Holland’s honorable actions have been well documented and appreciated by the MMA community, nonetheless, UFC Middleweight, Brendan Allen (23-5 MMA) took to his social media to give his take on the story.

“Cmon I know [Holland] didn’t take him down lmao,” Allen joked.

Kevin Holland spoke out against recent ‘trolls’ on social media

In an interview with Ariel Helwani on ‘The MMA Hour’, Holland gave his view on the response on the whole ordeal, expressing that he doesn’t think certain people struggle to take things as seriously as they should.

“There’s another guy from the Daukaus camp making jokes and stuff like that which I thought was a little weird because Chris is an ex-cop and stuff like that.” Holland stated to Helwani, “But aye, I would love to make a few jokes but ya know… I’m a jokester, I like to have fun but it’s one of those situations — I just got a message from one of the ladies there. She was happy that her and her husband got to go home to their newborn baby.”

So, if I’m not mistaken, Brendan Allen has a couple kids — had a kid not too long ago,” he continued.

“Hopefully, when you’re in that situation, Brendan, hopefully, you’re not joking. Hopefully, you’re taking things serious and you’re able to make it home to your kids and everybody that’s in there can make it home to their kids and you’re not such a douchebag.” (Transcribed by MMAmania.com)

Holland finished off by reminding Allen that, “[He is] a 170-pounder now but I’ll still come up to 185 and smack any one of you guys.”

All this drama comes just two weeks after Holland’s return Welterweight at UFC 272. The Californian managed to get back to winning ways shortly following three consecutive losses within the UFC.

Kevin Holland reportedly subdued an active shooter with two other men. The UFC welterweight was enjoying his meal at RA Sushi restaurant in the Highland Park neighborhood of Houston when the incident occurred around 11.30 p.m. on Monday night.

According to Houston Police Department Sgt. Ricardo Salas, about 40 to 50 people were inside the restaurant when the suspect walked in and fired one shot in the bar area. Local reports suggest that two martial arts fighters sprung into action to take down the gunman with another customer helping in holding the suspect down. Patrick Robinson is one of the two MMA fighters alongside UFC standout Holland.

“Next thing you know, you just hear a ‘pop’ and then everybody started getting down,” Robinson told Houston’s NBC-2 TV station. “Everybody started getting down. Next thing you know, me and my buddy, we ran to the shooter, got him down, strangled him, took the gun from him, and then called the police. Police came and got him.”

Robinson’s buddy is, of course, Kevin Holland, who refused to be interviewed by local media following the incident.

‘Trailblazer’ took to Instagram to post a story shortly after the incident where he appeared to be in good spirits.

“We got him down, apprehended him, got the gun away from him and the bag that he had,” Robinson told Ehling, before adding, “You see it on the news, or you see it on TV or the movies and stuff, but you never see it actually in life, and it is crazy that nobody got hurt.”

According to Houston’s NBC-2 TV station, police identified the suspect as a 24-year-old man, who was wanted for failing to appear in court on a criminal mischief charge. He also had narcotics on him at the time of his arrest.

Is Kevin Holland turning into real-life Batman?

It’s the second time in five months that Holland has helped police in a heroic act of vigilantism. In October, the California native apprehended a car thief in his coach’s neighborhood in Saginaw, TX after a person flagged him down to say their car was hijacked. The UFC star chased down the vehicle and held the suspect until police could arrive.

In an interview with The MMA Hour after that incident, Holland said, “I pull up, I got my coffee mug, so I’m like this time I’m gonna be prepared,” Holland said. “I got my coffee cup. I’m chasing down after him and he reaches down to kind of go like this, I don’t know if he’s saying stop or what? I go like this with the coffee mug, and then I hit him with a little sweep. Get on top, knee on belly, hit him with the little Khabib scarf hold. He was like, ‘I can’t breathe,’ so that’s when I picked him up, put him on the curb. I didn’t want to be like the cop with the Can’t Breathe guy, so I was like f*** it let’s just put him over here.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Holland ended his three-fight winless streak at UFC 272 with a second-round KO/TKO win against ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira at UFC 272 in his return to welterweight. He also called out another ‘Cowboy’ in Donald Cerrone who seemed interested in the fight but remains focused on his next bout against Joe Lauzon at UFC 274 on May 7.

Is Kevin Holland the closest thing we have to Batman in the UFC?
