Cedric Doumbe predicts easy win over Conor McGregor in fantasy fight I would KO him

PFL welterweight Cedric Doumbe backs himself against Conor McGregor in fantasy matchup.

Doumbe is one of the leading figures in the rising European MMA scene, attracting enormous crowds and support in his native France. Cedric Doumbe sent a major message to the MMA world when he faced Jordan Zebo in his PFL debut last October – having an electric walkout to a roaring crowd carrying a mattress that read ‘good night Jordan’. He would then knock out Zebo in just nine seconds.

While his most recent outing against Baysangur Chamsoudinov would not go his way, Doumbe attracted another enormous crowd which featured notable sports stars such as Tony Parker and several PSG players. The event was said to have sold out within 20 minutes.

This kind of attention Doumbe receives at home could only be likened to that of McGregor during his come up, in particular when he headlined the3Arena against Diego Brando in 2014. Speaking with BloodyElbow, Doumbe spoke of the comparison and while flattered believes that if the pair were to every meet for an all-European showdown, it would be he to come out on top.

Cedric Doumbe

“It makes sense because I’m the face of MMA in France as Conor was in Ireland so the comparison makes sense,” Doumbe said during an interview with Bloody Elbow.

“But if I fought Conor, I think I would knock him out in the first round because he is a good fighter. When I fight against a good fighter, I knock them out.”

Doumbe will make his return to the cage tomorrow night when he takes on Jaleel Willis in the co-main event of Bellator’s Champion Series which will take place at the Accor Arena in Paris, France.

A former LFA champion, Willis has since gone 4-3 on the Bellator platform and will prove a good test for Doumbe who is looking to get straight back on track less than two months on from his last outing.

Who wins, Cédric Doumbe or Conor McGregor?

Joe Rogan calls for MMA ruleset change to benefit grapplers if it's boring tough

UFC commentator Joe Rogan offers an alternative to the current MMA ruleset.

Despite his success in podcasting and comedy, Rogan has stuck around the sport for over two decades. The 56-year-old continues to commentate on American pay-per-view cards and has done an enormous amount of work in terms of promoting the sport.

Joe Rogan does have a particular soft spot for grappling and BJJ, holding a black belt himself the comedian has also been a major factor in the sports massive surge in popularity after discussing it at length during his podcast.

This might be why he believes a rule change should be implemented in order to level the playing field between strikers and grapplers. Talking with the legend Royce Gracie on his podcast, the two discussed the current ruleset.

Joe Rogan calls for change in ruleset

Rogan alleges that the current rules favour strikers over grapplers, citing round time and referee stand-ups as his reasoning.

“The rules are set up much more for strikers than for wrestlers,” Joe Rogan said on his JRE MMA Show with UFC 1 victor, Royce Gracie. “I’ve been talking about this lately. Say you’re a jiu-jitsu guy and you’re fighting in the first round, and rounds are five minutes long and you take the guy down at four minutes and 30 seconds. You only have 30 seconds to work.” (H/T MMA Mania)

“I feel like if a fight should be… Even if you’re going to make it rounds, the fight is the fight. I don’t think someone should be able to get up. I don’t think people should stand you up, ever. I think once a guy takes you down, the fight is on the ground.

“If it’s boring for the audience, tough s—,” Rogan continued. “If you’re on the bottom, get up. And if you can’t get up, tough s—. And if the round ends and the new round begins, I think they should start you right back in the same place.”

Rogan would bring up the option of implementing the old Pride-style rounds that would last ten minutes. He had previously raised this argument during a podcast with Paul Felder

“Well, I think Pride had good rules with a 10-minute was better. I think 10 minutes is better”, Rogan said. “Especially if someone, like, works really hard. Again, 4 minutes 30 seconds you finally take the guy down, now you’re on top. And now you’re trying to set things up, but the bell rings. And then you start standing up again.”

‘Platinum’ Passed Over For Paul Vs. Tyson Undercard

Perry claims he was MVP’s original option to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the Paul vs. Tyson undercard. MVP replied with their own version of events.

The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson undercard is coming together quickly as the event’s July 20th date approaches. In the co-main slot is the killer rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. Also fighting is Darren Till vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

One name you won’t see on the card, though, is ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry. As for why, there are differing accounts.

Perry himself says he was approached by Paul’s promotion MVP to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., but the paycheck didn’t make sense.

“I was like, oh, I’m interested to be on the Mike Tyson Netflix card, to get that exposure against this certified professional boxer,” he said on the latest episode of The MMA Hour. “But the money.”

“Platinum” made a disclosed $600,000 to fight at the last BKFC KnuckleMania, plus undisclosed bonuses and pay-per-view points. He’s willing and able to fight outside BKFC, but has said he won’t do it for less money.

The two sides couldn’t come to an agreement, and MVP went with Darren Till vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in what certainly feels like a second choice.

Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian denied that was the case.

“No offer was made to Mike Perry,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “There was a discussion with his management prior to his last bare knuckle event with the plan to revisit after that fight. We expressed interest, but also highlighted the need to see factual data on Mike’s ability to sell tickets and PPV.”

“We did not revisit the discussion after his fight as by that point we had the entire Paul Tyson card confirmed.”

Bare Knuckle FC’s actual pay-per-view sales are somewhat mysterious. Gone are the days where reporters with access to cable PPV sales could extrapolate somewhat accurate estimates. With everything going through the internet, it’s a black box.

We know Perry gets tons of attention, and probably generates a lot of eyeballs for BKFC, but only on pirate streams? Bidarian wanted to know the answer to that, which is fair enough … but not super relevant when your event is being aired for free on Netflix.

Get taken down at the end of the round? You should start the next round in the same position, according to UFC commentator and podcasting giant Joe Rogan.

Joe Rogan is unimpressed with the current rules of MMA, which favor strikers over grapplers in his educated opinion.

Rogan is no stranger to suggesting unusual rule changes for fighting. For years his pet cause has been combat sports on a football field.

“I also think they should be fighting on a football field,” he told Paul Felder on the JRE back in February 2023. “F— that cage. The cages gets in the way … If you can play basketball in a court, why can’t you have an MMA fight in the court.”

Now Rogan is stumping for the wrestlers and jiu jitsu players in the UFC, who are struggling with rules that stop them from getting on top of their opponents and riding their way to an easy decision win. He shared these thoughts with the OG MMA fighter, Royce Gracie, in the latest episode of his podcast.

“The rules are set up much more for strikers than for wrestlers,” he said. “I’ve been talking about this lately. Say you’re a jiu jitsu guy and you’re fighting in the first round, and rounds are five minutes long and you take the guy down at four minutes and 30 seconds. You only have 30 seconds to work.”

“I feel like if a fight should be… Even if you’re going to make it rounds, the fight is the fight. I don’t think someone should be able to get up. I don’t think people should stand you up, ever. I think once a guy takes you down, the fight is on the ground.”

“If it’s boring for the audience, tough s—,” Rogan continued. “If you’re on the bottom, get up. And if you can’t get up, tough s—. And if the round ends and the new round begins, I think they should start you right back in the same place.”

Rogan also suggested a return to PRIDE style 10 minute rounds, while Gracie preferred one long 15 minute round.

Not mentioned were the judging criteria changes that refocused damage as the primary qualifier of who wins a round. That’s how they’ve always been written, but for years top control was king and fighters would ‘steal rounds’ with a late takedown followed by nothing much.

While takedowns in the last 30 seconds of a round can still occasionally trick the crack squad of judges who score UFC fights, we’ve seen more examples these days of grapplers controlling an entire round, only to lose it after being on the wrong end of one violent exchange.

Progress or regression? We know where Joe Rogan stands. Let us know what you think in the comments below, Maniacs.

Midnight Mania: Watch ‘Demolidor’ Rescue Dogs From Brazilian Flood

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

In the south of Brazil, the Rio Grande do Sul state is currently experiencing severe flooding after continuously heavy rain fall. The region is expected to continue suffering flood conditions for the next month, which could displace up to half a million people.

Thankfully, at least one hero has intervened, as UFC Middleweight contender Michel Pereira was recently seen helping those affected. Today, more footage released of Pereira, as the Brazilian can be seen rescuing a large amount of dogs — likely trapped or abandoned — from dangerous conditions. In the clips above, Pereira is seen carrying a dog off a roof with a flash light in his mouth, carefully navigating his way to the deep waters. In another clip, Pereira is helping pull a boat containing half-a-dozen dogs through the flooded streets.

Pereira posted a couple times on social media to update the world on the struggles of Rio Grande do Sul.

Translated via Google Translate, the latter post reads, “These are some sad scenes. These are some cool stuff. But there are scenes that you and I need to see to understand how much Rio Grande do Sul needs us right now.

We’re several days into this seemingly never-ending struggle. The water stinks. Water hurts from being cold. Water makes everything difficult. But today alone, 26 dogs and 3 guinea pigs were rescued.

We’re here for you. Let’s get this out of here. Keep donating, keep supporting”

In the cage, “Demolidor” has been nothing short of spectacular. Pereira has won eight straight bouts, mostly in highlight reel fashion. He’s been particularly excellent since moving up to 185 lbs., stopping his last three opponents in less than four minutes combined.

Now ranked at No. 13, a Top 10 opponent is probably next for Michel Pereira whenever he returns to action.
