Khabib Nurmagomedov Ferguson

UFC commentator Joe Rogan is one of many who doesn’t understand why Tony Ferguson is being overlooked against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Ferguson challenges Nurmagomedov for his lightweight title in the main event of UFC 249 on April 18 in Brooklyn, New York. However, there is already talk of Conor McGregor facing Nurmagomedov in a rematch with UFC president Dana White claiming that is the fight that is next for the Irishman.

Of course, Nurmagomedov has to get past Ferguson first, which will be no easy feat. Rogan even believes “El Cucuy” is the toughest fight of his career:

“I don’t know why they’re saying that when Khabib has to fight Tony motherf*cking Ferguson,” Rogan said in a recent episode of his podcast. “Tony’s the boogeyman. That nickname ‘El Cucuy’ is a perfect nickname for that guy. That guy is terrifying. He never gets tired, everyone that fights him look like they fell off a train. It’s crazy.

“I think Khabib vs. Tony is the toughest fight of Khabib’s career. I really believe that. I think Tony Ferguson is a nightmare for anybody. Especially right now. When you watch his fight with Anthony Pettis, how he busted up Donald Cerrone — I think Tony Ferguson is the scariest guy for anybody at 155 pounds to fight.”

With all that in consideration, when it comes to a Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor rematch, Rogan says he wouldn’t be making any plans until after April 18:

“I would not be making any plans,” Rogan added. “If I was Dana or I was anybody else — I would not be making any plans. Khabib can win that fight. Tony can win that fight too.”

Headline: Khabib Compares Conor McGregor vs. Cowboy Cerrone To ‘Well-Organized Circus’

Author: Fernando Quiles Jr.

Khabib Nurmagomedov doesn’t believe Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone was fixed but he does feel the UFC did its best to ensure McGregor was made to look unstoppable.

McGregor shared the Octagon with Cerrone on Jan. 18. The welterweight bout served as UFC 246’s headliner. McGregor vs. Cerrone was held inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The “Notorious” one stopped “Cowboy” in 40 seconds via TKO.

Khabib Not Impressed By McGregor’s Win Over Cerrone

Speaking to reporters, Nurmagomedov explained why he compares McGregor vs. Cerrone to a “well-organized circus” (via RT News).

“A big organization with a lot of history won’t take such risks,” he explained. “If someone finds out that the fight was fixed, it would be a huge blow to the UFC’s reputation. They picked a good opponent though – an opponent that never won anything serious. He could have kept winning and winning and when it came time for a big fight, and just gave up because he’s mentally weak. It’s just a well-organized circus.”

Nurmagomedov has his next title defense scheduled. He’ll put his UFC lightweight championship on the line against Tony Ferguson on April 18. The title clash will be the main event for UFC 249 inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

As for McGregor, UFC president Dana White has made it clear that he wants “Mystic Mac” to challenge the winner of Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson. McGregor doesn’t appear to want to wait that long and has been mulling a quick return to action.

The bad blood between Nurmagomedov and McGregor still lingers. The two were engaged in a heated feud that involved a confrontation between Team Khabib and Artem Lobov in a hotel lobby and a bus attack involving McGregor and his entourage. Ultimately, Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor back in Oct. 2018 and it led to a brawl in the crowd between both camps.

Jones Nurmagomedov

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones believes there is one thing that separates him from lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov — their level of opponents.

Jones is set to defend his title against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 this Saturday. Another win for “Bones” would only further solidify his claim of being the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

Also considered the pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport today, Jones does get some competition from Nurmagomedov for that accolade. After all, “The Eagle” is undefeated with a 28-0 record and has virtually dominated every single one of his opponents.

But for Jones, Nurmagomedov hasn’t faced the number of champions and legends that he has been facing throughout the years:

“I think Khabib’s an amazing fighter,” Jones said on ESPN First Take (via Bleacher Report). “He’s done a great job representing UFC. He’s a great ambassador for our sport.

“But if you were to ask some MMA experts about myself and Khabib, I think most people would be able to tell our resumes are completely different. I’ve fought so many world champions that I’ve defeated. Khabib, a lot of his victories are against a lot of people that are relatively unknown. I’ve been fighting legends since I was a young man.”

Even for his naysayers, it’s hard to disagree with Jones on that.

For what it’s worth, though, even Nurmagomedov considers the light heavyweight king as the pound-for-pound best fighter in the UFC.
