Former undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov has revealed he currently weighs in the region of 205lbs since his retirement from professional mixed martial arts in October 2020. And insists he’s happy to walk around at the light heavyweight limit and drink Pepsi after a tedious career of weight cutting.

Khabib, a former undisputed lightweight champion under the UFC banner, called time on his career following a successful title unification win against former interim titleholder, Justin Gaethje back at UFC 254 – improving to 29-0 as a professional.

Khabib Nurmagomedov reveals sizeable weight gain since 2020 retirement

A career lightweight, Khabib, a trainee at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California, revealed recently that in the two years since his retirement from active competition, he’s currently walking around in the region of the light heavyweight limit of 205lbs.

“I weight 205lbs now, maybe 204lbs in the morning if I don’t have dessert the night before,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said at a Human Appeal charity event. “When I was an active fighter, I was around 190lbs and I cut weight to 155lbs. I finished my career, I gained about five kilos, but I can’t do anything with this.”

It was one of the hardest things in my life to stay away from food, even now,” Khabib Nurmagomedov explained. “It was hared because for 15 years, I was on a diet, maybe more. To make weight, I had to stay on a diet all my life. Being a religious person, we have to stay away from a lot of things. When food comes on the table, sometimes you want to enjoy it. I have to train every day for five hours to get back to 86 kilo (190lbs), or I can live a happy life. I’m going to be happy and drink Pepsi.” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow

Over the course of his professional career, Khabb tipped the lightweight limit for a 2013 fight against Abel Trujillo, while the Dagestan native was criticized for failing to weigh in ahead of a UFC 209 interim title fight, with long-time rival, Tony Ferguson poking fun at Khabib for consuming tiramisu the night before weigh-ins.

Darren Till issued a fiery response to Khabib Nurmagomedov for his comments aimed at Khamzat Chimaev’s team.

Chimaev is coming off a sensational finish over Kevin Holland this past Saturday at UFC 279. He was scheduled to headline the card but needed a new opponent after missing weight by seven and a half pounds. Following him coming in overweight, former lightweight champion Khabib stated that Chimaev did not have good people around him and suggested he get more Muslims in his entourage.

Darren Till fires back at Khabib saying Khamzat Chimaev needs more Muslims around him

In an interview with Brett Okamoto for ESPN, Till pushed back against Khabib’s claims that Chimaev needed more Muslims around him.

“I seen Khabib, sort of like saying, ‘Khamzat doesn’t have good people around him.,’” Till said. “Now, I get it, I get like the Muslim faith and that. I’ve got some very close Muslim friends here in Liverpool and abroad or in Dubai and stuff like that. I just don’t like him saying, I don’t know if he’s directing at me or someone within Khamzat’s team, like coaches, teammates or whatever. There’s a few of us who aren’t Muslim. Now, I don’t like it because, one, I’ve only got Khamzat’s best interests.

When Khamzat posted that meme saying it’s my fault, there was no problem. Direct all the blame on me I don’t care if it makes stuff easier for you. I would rather him direct the blame on me so when he posted it, and I’ve seen it, I was sat next to him, I was like, ‘what the f**k?’ and he’s laughing. I don’t care.”

Till talked about the backstage interaction at the pre-fight press conference which ultimately got canceled.

“My only goal fight week was to watch him win the fight. I wanted him to just make weight and win the fight. I’ve got his back more than anyone. Even when Khamzat was backstage on his own, they made us go to the front and then Nate came in late with the same group of people. There was five of us and five of them and they never went straight backstage. I jumped over the gate and I went on backstage, I was shouting like, ‘Dana, Hunter, and everyone.’ Why the f**k was I not with Khamzat? Why was he left alone?”

“The Gorilla” referenced the times Khabib missed weight and reiterated his stance.

“Khabib’s missed weight like five times. He’s got good people around him. We are not coming out now saying. It’s just because me and Khamzat have a bit of fun on camera, we’re a bit wild, does that mean I’m not good peoples or his coaches aren’t good peoples? His Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach is one of the best grapplers of all time. He’s not Muslim, does that mean he’s bad peoples?”

Khamzat Chimaev has been the recipient of some shade thrown at him from Khabib Nurmagomedov, but now he has sent a shot back at him.

Chimaev had an issue at UFC 279 with making weight, as his bout against Nate Diaz had to be cancelled. The UFC was forced to mix a few fights around, but they were able to get the card right in the end. Chimaev came under some heavy scrutiny, as he missed weight by a an entire weight division practically. Khabib Nurmagomedov, who also had his weight issues in the UFC, sent a shot at Chimaev for missing the weight and his lifestyle choices.

“If you are a Muslim, you should have good people around you. Muslims who can say ‘Hey, don’t do this.’ I recently watched the weigh-in of Khamzat Chimaev. I followed what was happening with his weight and looked at his team. There are no Muslims around him and this is very bad. Because if you are a Muslim, you need good, strong people around you that will say ‘Come back, do this.’” Nurmagomedov said about Chimaev at a fundraiser (transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Nurmagomedov is most likely talking about Chimaev’s new training partner, Darren Till.

Khamzat Chimaev didn’t take too kindly to Nurmagomedov’s comments, as he commented on an Instagram post about the situation

‘Borz’ was said to be out late eating and drinking the night before UFC 279, according to the Instagram post. Chimaev commented and took a shot at Nurmagomedov for having to pull out of multiple fights with Tony Ferguson.

“I ate too much tiramisu, that’s why my fight with Tony Ferguson been cancelled five times ?????” Chimaev commented

Nurmagomedov had a ton of issues making weight at lightweight, so him telling Chimaev how he should handle his life, is somewhat “the pot calling the kettle black”.

Former undisputed UFC lightweight titleholder, Khabib Nurmagomedov has questioned the reasoning behind the recent weight miss of scheduled UFC 270 headliner, Khamzat Chimaev last weekend – after the Chechen-born contender missed weight by a whopping seven and a half pounds for his welterweight fight against Nate Diaz.

Scheduled to headline UFC 279 last weekend in ‘Sin City’, Chimaev was demoted to the event’s co-headliner against welterweight contender, Kevin Holland – landing at a catchweight bout of 180lbs after he weighed in at 178.5lbs for a fight against Diaz.

Maintaining his undefeated record against Holland on just a day’s notice, Chimaev quickly scored a takedown against the Riverside striker, before continually dragging him to the canvas during numerous scrambles.

Wrapping up a taut D’Arce choke eventually, Khamzat Chimaev, who currently sits at #3 in the official welterweight rankings, has been tipped to likely make a middleweight division move before the end of this year by his head coach, Andreas Michael.

Khabib Nurmagomedov shares his thoughts on Khamzat Chimaev’s glaring weight miss

Weighing in on Chimaev’s dubious weight miss for UFC 279, Khabib questioned the characters the AllStars MMA staple surrounds himself with, calling for him to knit Muslim influences into his group.

“If you are a Muslim, you should have good people around you – Muslim who can say, ‘Hey, don’t do this,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said at a Human Appeal event recently. “I recently watched the weigh-in of Khamzat Chimaev. I followed what was happening with his weight and looked at his team. There are no Muslims around him and this is very bad. Because if you are a Muslim, you need good, strong people around you. [Who] will say, ‘Come back, do this.’”

“When you become rich and famous, when you gain power and [around you] there are no people who will give advice or you do not listen to them,” Khabib Nurmagomedov explained. “Then something will happen. You need good people, even if you don’t like it, you need them.” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow)
