Khamzat Chimaev shows off an impressive physique ahead of a middleweight clash against Paulo Costa later this year.

Finally, it has been announced that Chimaev has a fight booked after what will be 13 months out of action, with no reported injury, illness or visa issues. This is strange for someone who built is initial reputation for seemingly being willing to fight anyone at the drop of a hat.

Chimaev will take on marauding middleweight, Costa, at the 185lb limit in what could present the biggest challenge of his career. Last time out after missing out on a fight against Nate Diaz due to missing weight, ‘Borz’ took on Kevin Holland, easily dispatching of the American in just over two minutes.

His October 21 bout against Costa at UFC 294 could mark the official end of his welterweight days. The 29-year-old was always a massive welterweight and struggled with the weight, but in a new social media post he is looking as big as he ever has.

Initially, the announcement was a bit of a surprise after Costa had supposedly been booked to face Ikram Aliskerov at UFC 291. However, it was reported that he was no longer fighting next week and just a couple days following, Costa was booked to face Chimaev. The Brazilian reacted to the announcement, Tweeting – “It’s OFFICIAL. I told you guys, I never lied. Abu Dhabi I’m bringing tha CHAOS to YOU ALL

The pair have gone back and forth on social media for some time now, even having an altercation at the UFC performance institute.

The fight is certainly an intriguing one, Chimaev will no longer have a size and strength advantage, a large part of his success so far. While he will have the grappling advantage, Costa is a big middleweight with fantastic athleticism and is more than capable defensively. How it plays out on the feet will be interesting, while he possesses power, Chimaev has shown vulnerability, particularly in his fight against Gilbert Burns and now standing opposite him will be a man who has proven power and durability.

Who wins, Khamzat Chimaev or Paulo Costa?

Paulo Costa slams Khamzat Chimaev motherf*cker you can't hide UFC 294 fight

Amid continued links to a long-rumored clash with the undefeated, Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 in October, one-time middleweight title challenger, Paulo Costa has warned the Chechen that he cannot “hide” from him for much longer.

In the midst of a 12-fight undefeated run, AllStars MMA staple, Chimaev has been linked with a continued return to active competition this year, however, has yet to book an earmarked clash at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.

As for Belo Horizonte native, Costa, the middleweight staple is still listed to compete against would-be common-foe, Ikram Aliskerov at UFC 291 later this month in Salt Lake City, Utah, however, over the week, conflicting reports have claimed that the Brazilian has withdrawn from the bout – particularly reports according to Aliskerov’s camp.

Paulo Costa sends expletive-filled message to Khamzat Chimaev

And fuelling those rumors across social media this Wednesday evening, Costa issued a message to Chimaev – who called for a welterweight title fight with Leon Edwards at UFC 294, claiming the Chechen-born finisher was “terrified” of him.

“What the f*ck,” Paulo Costa said during a video posted on his official social media. “Dude, this is great – he’s (Khamzat Chimaev) terrified, he’s terrified. Motherf*cker, you can’t hide from me. You can’t hide from me. I swear to God, I feel sorry for him.”

Sidelined since he featured on the main card of UFC 278 back in August of last year, Costa most recently snapped a two-fight losing skid to middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori – landing a unanimous decision win over former divisional titleholder, Luke Rockhold.

Himself without a walk since September of last year, Chimaev moved to 12-0 as a professional, submitting impromptu opponent, Kevin Holland with a first round D’Arce choke in a dominant catchweight victory for the former.

Khamzat Chimaev calls for title fight with Leon Edwards at UFC 294 if you're a man

Still in search of an opponent for a return to the Octagon for the first time in over a year, undefeated welterweight contender, Khamzat Chimaev has called for divisional champion, Leon Edwards to accept a fight against him at UFC 294 in October in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Chimaev, the surging number four ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since he co-headlined UFC 279 back in September of last year, improving to 12-0 as a professional, submitting Kevin Holland with an opening round D’Arce choke submission win.

Chechen-born finisher, Khamzat Chimaev was initially scheduled to headline the event against now-promotional veteran, Nate Diaz at the welterweight limit, however, the pairing was shelved after the former missed non-title weight by a whopping seven-and-a-half pounds.

Expected to make a move to the middleweight limit in his earmarked Octagon comeback at UFC 294 in October, the AllStars MMA staple has been linked to a much-speculated clash with one-time title challenger, Paulo Costa, however, the pairing has yet to be officially booked by the organization.

Khamzat Chimaev calls for October title fight with Leon Edwards

And this Wednesday morning, Chimaev has since switched his attention once more to multiple-time scheduled foe, undisputed welterweight champion, Edwards.

“@Leon_edwardsmmma if you are a man let’s fight in Abu Dhabi,” Khamzat Chimaev tweeted

Scheduled to clash with Edwards on multiple occasions since his move to the UFC back in 2020, Chimaev saw at least four planned bouts with the Birmingham native fall to the wayside in the time since.

Furthermore, Edwards, who has been sidelined since he landed a trilogy rubber match title defense win over Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 back in March, is expected to potentially fight at UFC 285 in November, taking on former interim champion, Colby Covington at Madison Square Garden.

Yesterday to boot, Edwards was called out by lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, with the Russian offering to fight him for his welterweight crown at UFC 294.

Prior to his submission win over Holland, Chimaev had turned in a close, unanimous decisiion victory against perennial welterweight contender, Gilbert Burns in April of last year to boot in a successful welterweight walk.

Bo Nickal compares Khamzat Chimaev’s wrestling skills to ‘every eight-year-old in Pennsylvania’

Bo Nickal is less than impressed with the wrestling skills of fast-rising contender, Khamzat Chimaev.

Nickal scored his fifth-straight win since making his professional mixed martial arts debut, knocking out newcomer Val Woodburn 38 seconds into their UFC 290 clash earlier this month. With the three-time NCAA Division I national champion still making a name for himself in the sport, don’t expect to see the former Nittany Lion take on anyone in the top ten just yet, but it certainly feels like Nickal is on a collision course with undefeated Chechen monster, Khamzat Chimaev.

Nickal called out ‘Borz’ following an impressive showing on Dana White’s Contender Series last year, and while it kinda felt like clout chasing at the time, fans are legitimately starting to wonder if Nickal has the skill set necessary to ragdoll Chimaev in a potential clash between world-class wrestlers.

Speaking with Michael Bisping on the former middleweight champ’s Believe You Me podcast, Bo Nickal offered his candid take on Khamzat Chimaev’s wrestling skills.

“Yeah you know, it was actually funny, I saw a video the other day of [Chimaev] competing against a guy and it was, you know, quite a few years ago however long five, six, seven years ago but I was just watching it,” Nickal said. “I’ve watched some highlights of him wrestling right and he looks good but he’s competing against like 16-year-old kids and it’s like well that’s a joke but anyways I was watching it and I was like, okay, I’m gonna watch this match and break him down, see what he’s doing.

Literally, the only thing he did was fake, fake, fake, fake double leg. I’m like dude, we have every eight-year-old in Pennsylvania can do that exact same thing like at the same skill level you’re doing, and yeah he wrestled hard and stuff, but I was just like, this guy is a good wrestler? What are we talking about?

I don’t mean to be negative towards people’s skills and stuff, I obviously respect his skills, and MMA’s a completely different ball game like if we were to wrestle in a match, it’s a joke like it’ll end in sub 60 seconds, I’ll kill that guy and not even competitive but in a MMA fight like I said, different ball game” (h/t MMA News).

Bo Nickal Respects Khamzat Chimaev’s Skills, But Doesn’t See ‘Borz’ Taking Him Down in Potential Showdown

But don’t get Bo Nickal wrong. He has a great deal of respect for Chimaev and the dominant performances he has delivered inside the Octagon.

“I think my skills in wrestling translate very well to MMA, I’m still learning, I’m still growing so you know, with folk style wrestling, the application to MMA I think is the strongest out of any combat sport and that’s what I have,” Nickal continued. “The highest level folk style wrestling in the world and yeah when I look at his skills and what he does in the cage, I respect it a lot. I think that he is somebody that competes super hard and he has a good gas tank, he’s got a lot of dangerous weapons.

As for how a potential fight between the two men would go, Nickal doesn’t see Chimaev possessing the power or the skills to take him down as he has done with many of his previous opponents.

He obviously has good grappling, he’s able to take a lot of guys down and control them there, I think that if we were to fight, there’s no way he takes me down,” Nickal added.

Khamzat Chimaev is currently undefeated in his MMA career, boasting an impressive 12-0 record with six straight wins under the UFC banner. ‘Borz’ immediately made waves, earning three finishes in the span of eight weeks. Since then, he has added three more victories to his resume, defeating Li Jingliang, Gilbert Burns, and Kevin Holland. Chimaev has not competed since September 2022 but he is expected to return at UFC 294 when the promotion heads back to Abu Dhabi in October.

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Jared Cannonier fight at UFC 294 described as a little big dissapointing

Amid rumors of a potential middleweight pairing between the unbeaten, Khamzat Chimaev and recent big-winner, Jared Cannonier at UFC 294 in October on ‘Fight Island’, sport analyst and Octagon veteran, Chael Sonnen has labelled the pairing a “little disappointing” – given the lack of build-up to a potential pairing.

This week, speculation began to mount regarding a potential clash of one-time middleweight title challenger, Cannonier and the undefeated, Khamzat Chimaev – with the latter’s coach Instagram Stories dissected, which appears to show him studying tape of Cannonier’s recent fight against Marvin Vettori earlier this summer

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Jared Cannonier still described as a “really good” fight

However, while a pairing between the duo has yet to be announced by the organization, Sonnen, who has speculated on the rumored pairing, insisted that while the fight itself was “really good” – he can’t help but be disappointed by the clash, however.

“I’m hearing rumors that it’s gonna be Jared Cannonier vs. (Khamzat) Chimaev,” Chael Sonnen told reporter, Helen Yee during a recent interview.. “I believe those rumors even though they’re a little bit disappointing. I think you have a really good fight there… But as far as the buildup and some of the fun that we could have had, it’s a miss.”

“He (Khamzat Chimaev) was supposed to fight Paulo Costathen it was rumored that he was gonna fight Kamaru Usman, and now it’s rumored he’s gonna fight Jared Cannonier, so generally when you have a number one contender fight, it’s not about go win, it’s about go beat that guy,” Sonnen explained. “Now it’s been revealed to us… that it doesn’t matter who the guy is and frankly, that’s weird.”  (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Sidelined since co-headlining UFC 279 back in September of last year, Chechen-born contender, Chimaev improved to 12-0 as a professional, submitting Kevin Holland with a dominant first round D’Arce choke win over the Riverside striker.

UFC middleweight Bo Nickal has his eyes set on a blockbuster fighter against Khamzat Chimaev.

While they may come from polar opposite backgrounds, Nickal and Chimaev have plenty in common. Undefeated, intimidating grapplers are both tipped to ascend to the highest point in the sport — a future fight between them with no slip-ups on the way has the potential to be massive.

In fact, the potential matchup has been discussed since Nickal burst his way into the UFC following his two fights on the Contender Series. While it is still far too early to build hopes up, the possibilities are tantalizing and discussion of the fight is inevitable.

Bo Nickal doubles down on Khamzat Chimaev fight

Appearing on The MMA Hour, Nickal spoke on the potential matchup, something which he’s done several times in the past. His story had not changed, he wants the matchup and has spectacular visions set out for it.

Everyone wants to see me fight Khamzat [Chimaev], I wanna fight Khamzat, but I think that we need to build more. He hasn’t fought in a while,” began Nickal.

“I would like to see him fight an 85er’, I’ll get a couple more fights… My goal with Khamzat has always been Allegiant Stadium, sell it out for the belt and blow the roof off that place when I smash that guy. I think it’s gonna take a little more to build my reputation and get to where I want to be and for hi  to get where in order to make that fight what it deserves – the atmosphere it deserves.”

Nickal is fresh off a win over Val Woodburn at UFC 290, while Chimaev is expected to make a return later this year.
