Khamzat Chimaev, Robert Whittaker

Khamzat Chimaev is not interested in taking on Robert Whittaker.

The rising top-ranked welterweight prospect recently got into an altercation with Paulo Costa at the UFC Performance Institute. He was scheduled to headline UFC 279 against Nate Diaz in a 170-pound bout but got paired up with Kevin Holland after he came in seven and a half pounds over the agreed weight limit.

Khamzat Chimaev does not want to fight Robert Whittaker

Dana White talked about the potential of “Borz” moving up to middleweight in the future. Chimaev was asked about the idea of competing against former 185-pound champion Robert Whittaker. He explained why he was not interested in the matchup.

“I like that guy, so I don’t wanna fight good guys,” Chimaev said. “I need some bad guys, so I wanna fight some bad guys.”

“You care about that sh*t?” Chimaev said at the post-fight press conference (transcribed by Aaron Bronsteter of TSN Sports ). “I don’t care. I care about my family, I care about my family, I care about my career, I care about my money… One day they’re with me, one day they’re not with me.”

White wants Chimaev to move up

Considering the huge gap Chimaev missed the mark by, his future in the welterweight division looked uncertain. White gave his take on the matter, suggesting a move up to middleweight for “Borz.”

“It’s a problem,” White said (h/t MMAFighting). “That’s a problem that he missed weight. I don’t know. We’ve got to look at it and figure it out. What makes sense is for him to fight at [185 pounds], so we’ll see. “It is what it is. It happened. We’ll go back this week and come up with a plan and probably have him fight at [185]. After he just didn’t make weight, I don’t know,” White said when addressing Chimaev’s future. “There’s a lot of possibilities for him. Possibly at 170 or at 185.”

White Responds To Chimaev Weight Conspiracy Theory

Kevin Holland has opened up about his loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279.

Holland was initially scheduled to take on Daniel Rodriguez on the main card but got shuffled for the co-main spot opposite Chimaev after the top-ranked welterweight prospect came in seven-and-a-half-pounds overweight for his original match. They got pitted against each other in a catchweight bout at 180 pounds.

Kevin Holland opens up on a hard defeat to Khamzat Chimaev & calls out Stephen Thompson & Daniel Rodriguez

Holland and Chimaev got the chance to settle their feud this past Saturday. “Borz” came out firing all cylinders to secure a first-round finish over the longtime rival without absorbing a single significant strike, a feat he achieved for the fourth time in the promotion.

Following the loss, Holland took to his Instagram to give his take on what happened and where he is looking to go ahead. He named two potential opponents he would like to compete against.

“Yo, guys. I lost an amazing grappling match last night, I mean fight,” Holland said (ht BJ Penn.com). “My bad, Chimaev is one hell of an athlete. Still gonna be talking sh*t cause you know who I am. I hate ending the year like this, so I would love to go in there against a striker.

I don’t know if I’m still deserving of a ‘Wonderboy’ fight, I would love a ‘Wonderboy’ fight, but if not a ‘Wonderboy’ fight, D-Rod, we were all the way on task to getting it done. We had to switch it up to save the card, so maybe we can get something nice and get it going and collect another check before the end of the year.”

Kevin Holland received a lot of support from the crowd in attendance as Chimaev played up his new role of being the villain. Chimaev’s weight miss put the event at risk. Had Holland not stepped in to trade his foe on a day’s notice, things would have turned out very differently for the UFC.

After a short and furious battle with Kevin Holland after a newfound beef in the leadup of UFC 279, Khamzat Chimaev has extended the olive branch to his former opponent. Saying in the post-fight presser that he would welcome ‘Trailblazer’ to train with his team in Sweden.

While fans may have expected UFC 279 and its fight week to be entertaining, nobody could have guessed that things would be as insane as they were. It all started with the UFC 279 press conference, where a near riot broke out backstage between the parties of Kevin Holland’s, Khamzat Chimaev’s, and Nate Diaz’s entourages.

Things would eventually be settled with no significant issues or injuries reported, but the press conference would indeed have to be canceled in a historical first for the UFC.

Surprisingly though, this would just be the tip of the iceberg. As next would be the weigh-ins, and no fan alive could have predicted what would happen next. In a shocking turn of events, Chimaev would miss weight by an astounding 8.5lbs, sending the entire event into a catastrophic whirlwind.

The UFC rushed to fix the new mess that had been created as Nate Diaz would no longer fight ‘Borz’ with the weight miss. So, fights would be shuffled and fans would be blessed with a card that ultimately was a consensus better than the original one. Diaz was now set to face Tony Ferguson in the main event, and Chimaev and Holland would get a chance to settle their newfound beef.

Kevin Holland and Khamzat Chimaev’s beef settled after a near-riot and a heated brawl in the cage

It took only a few minutes for ‘Borz’ to accomplish his goal. Literally, rag-dolling Kevin Holland like he was a puppet. Chimaev had his way with the UFC star and found a home for a D’arce choke that forced the tap.

After the fight, you could feel it in the air that tensions had eased. From being involved in a near-riot that started with Chimaev and Holland at its core, to now finding some newfound respect for one another.

At the UFC’s postfight press conference, Chimaev had this to say about things:

“He’s actually a nice guy, so I like him, you know?” He began. “Sometimes we don’t like each other before the fight, it’s all normal…we’re coming for the war, to kill each other.”

“So, now this war is over,” Khamzat Chimaev continued. “If he wants he can come to my gym and be one of us…and he’s nice guy, good guy, tough guy, you know? He has a lot of things to learn, so yeah, he’s one of the warriors.”

With the war over and an olive branch extended, do you think Kevin Holland will accept Chimaev’s offer to train in Sweden?
