During his reign of terror, Kimbo Slice enjoyed immediate mainstream exposure, courtesy of his extensive career as an Internet-backyard-brawler.
His exploits eventually landed him in the now-defunct mixed martial arts promotion EliteXC. In his final appearance with the promotion, soon after cinching a TKO victory over PRIDE veteran James Thompson, Slice was viciously knocked out by UFC vet Seth Petruzelli.
Though Slice would eventually make his way inside the Octagon, his unbeatable facade quickly wore off as he suffered an additional loss to Matt Mitrione.
The Floridian has since ventured into the world of boxing, leaving behind his MMA ambitions, at least for the time being. Here, we will take a look at Slice and a number of other fighters who simply failed to live up to those high expectations.
Though Chael Sonnen claims to be “The Most Interesting Man in the World,” the title could very well go to long time UFC color commentator Joe Rogan. The man can turn an ice spill into comedy gold. He will put any referee with a last name sounding like Maserati on the spot without a seconds notice. And God forbid you try and diss him during one of his stand up routines. When he turns his hat backwards, it gives him a feeling of super strength that would make Lincoln Hawk piss his pants. Simply put, the man is a DMT tripping, BJJ grappling, spin kick throwing force that rarely fails to entertain when placed in front of a camera.
With the first ever live season of The Ultimate Fighter kicking off tonight, Rogan sat down and shared some of his favorite moments in the show’s history. Go figure, Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar‘s war at the TUF 1 Finale was the first thing to be discussed. Here’s what he had to say:
The first season was the first time reality television was integrated with such an exciting and intense growing sport, and it came together in the most beautiful and poetic way possible with the finals … The estimations were that there were as many as eight million people watching this fight. That’s unfathomable! People are at home, and they were calling their friends up, and they’re like, ‘Dude! You’ve gotta watch this. There is a crazy fight going on and these two white guys are beating the fuck out of each other!’ And that was the birth of modern mixed martial arts. That was the fight that put it on the map.

Leave it to Dana White and Co. to one-up the competition by trying to fuck them worse than they’ve ever been fucked before.
Somehow (okay, it was probably dollar signs and decimal points) FX convinced the gold grill-wearing Ultimate Fighter alumnus to cut a promo for TUF Live, convincing viewers to watch the new series, — a somewhat odd request, considering it runs at the same time as Kimbo’s “The Ultimate Fighter Fridays” premiere. In his defense, he could have filmed the spot before SPIKE hired him, but you would think he would have mentioned it to them beforehand to avoid looking like a fool, you know, more than he did bobbing all over shadowboxing while doing the promo.

But if Kimbo says we should avoid his show and watch the new TUF, who are we to argue? The man is a mage.
You can bet the powers that be at SPIKE are pissed they decided to go with Kimbo over James Toney and Dana likely can’t stop smiling long enough to eat his Pinkberry before it melts. Glad we don’t have their problems. Being rich and vengeful seems like a hassle, doesn’t it?

Youtube Sensation/UFC vet/pornstar confidantKevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson will be looking to improve his professional boxing record to 4-0 come March 24th, when he welcomes former MMA fighter Mike Glenn to the boxing world at the O’Reilly Center in Springfield, Missouri in a card dubbed Fight Night Returns.
Since being ousted from the UFC following a second round TKO loss to Matt Mitrione at UFC 113 and subsequently calling it a day on his MMA career, Slice has scored three straight victories inside the boxing ring, the first two of which came via brutal one punch knockout inside the first round. It appeared as if the future Spike TV host was destined for WBA dominance, until he ran into personal fitness trainer and boxing newbee Charles Hackmann. Although Hackmann came into the bout on just a day’s notice, he managed to make it the distance with Kimbo and nearly finished him in the second round. The win, to say the least, was not impressive.

But fret not, Kimbo will be looking to silence that haters in his next bout, when he takes on Mike Glenn, a 5-6 MMA fighter making his professional boxing debut. It’s kind of sad to say this, but Glenn is without a doubt Slice’s toughest opponent to date. I mean, the man has only one TKO loss on his MMA record, and it was due to doctor’s stoppage, so we know he isn’t as KO-prone as the other gentlemen K. Ferg has faced. And that’s saying something, right? Anyone?
Though his record is less than impressive, Glenn does own a submission via armbar win over legendary Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, as well as a win under a major promotion–a first round TKO over Lee “Manimal” Brosseau at Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu 2. No joke, Glenn’s last fight took place at the same venue that will hold his big debut, under an event titled Slay Marketing – Champions Collide: A Fight for the Kids. You cannot make that shit up.
So what say you, Potato Nation, will Slice improve to 5-0? Or will Glenn prove to be too much for him?
Yes, friends and neighbors, there’s a fighter on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighterwho has done porn — and not the normal kind, either. Since it’s a slow news week, this TUF 15 sub-plot has blown up to monumental proportions on MMA forums, but let’s put this in perspective: Dakota Cochrane isn’t the first MMA fighter to pick up some extra cash by appearing in adult films, and he probably won’t be the last. Send the kids out of the room, and follow us on a journey through the porn/MMA continuum…

Maybe the most successful MMA fighter-turned-porn actor, UFC veteran Aaron Brink has been performing as “Dick Delaware” since 2003. Though a meth addiction temporarily threw his life into chaos, Brink entered rehab to clean himself up. Last year, he played the role of Electro in Spider-Man XXX: A Porn Parodyand went 2-2 in the cage.
Alright, so Kimbo is only here on a technicality. As a former bodyguard for the “Reality Kings” porn production crew, Slice appeared as a featured extra in several of their XXX videos, though never performed himself. For further viewing, here’s Kimbo lurking in the background during a totally legitimate “Money Talks” negotiation (SFW), and here’s Kimbo balancing a glass of champagne in a girl’s ass at the club (NSFW).
DAKOTA COCHRANE
Here’s the story: Before he became an MMA fighter and TUF 15 hopeful, Dakota Cochrane was a college student at the University of Nebraska-Kearney who earned about $80,000 as a gay-for-pay performer in some dude-on-dude porn flicks. Cochrane, who identifies himself as heterosexual, described the situation to MMAFighting: ”It’s definitely a decision I regret. If I would have known what would happen I definitely wouldn’t have done it. But I had money issues and I needed help. I went there to do pictures, and they started throwing pretty high numbers in front of me. I didn’t really think. It was a big mistake…I let [the UFC] know right away so it wasn’t anything that could come back and bite them in the butt. I think maybe they respected that a little bit. I think some people judge against it, some people will be OK with it. Some people will want me to get my butt kicked, and hopefully others will respect what I’m trying to do…People can be shocked, and people can say whatever they need to say, and then we can move on.”

(“Does it matter that I’m no longer an MMA fighter? I can still analyticate what went down on the show, can’t I?”)
SPIKE TV announced today that it has hired UFC washout, and arguably the promotion’s biggest fringe draw next to Brock Lesnar, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, to host its new weekly Friday night TUF repeat show, “The Ultimate Fighter Fridays.”

The three-hour premiere episode will air March 9, which, not coincidentally is opposite episode 1 of FX’s The Ultimate Fighter Live, at 9:00 pm ET on SPIKE, and will feature Slice’s recollections from his six weeks in the fighter house.
