Knockout of the Day: Vik Grujic Elbows Luke Harris’s Head Through the Floor on ‘TUF Nations’

(Props: ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ on YouTube)

The Vik Grujic vs. Luke Harris quarterfinal fight from Wednesday’s episode of TUF Nations: Canada vs. Australia is notable for a few reasons. For one thing, it’s the only knockout that has taken place in the first eight episodes of the season. (See? Aren’t you glad you’re not watching?) Second, it ends with a storm of elbows from the top, which we always appreciate. And third, it features Harris doing the most dead-on Koji Oishi impression we’ve ever seen, before he inevitably gets his ass kicked.

By the way, Luke Harris isn’t some random palooka they found in a yoga studio. Every single victory in the Canadian’s 10-2 pro record has come by first-round submission, including a guillotine choke win over Edwin Dewees in 2012, if that means anything. [Ed. note: It doesn’t.] But clearly, he’s still figuring out the striking part of the equation. Watch as Harris stands in front of Grujic totally flat-footed and with his hands dropping to his waist, just waiting to get blasted in the chin. After a clash of strikes, Grujic slams Harris on the side of his head with minimal effort, then splits Harris’s dome open like a coconut with short elbows. The whole thing takes about 50 seconds.

But hey, that’s what this reality-show tournament is about, right? Filtering out the guys who aren’t real [expletive] fighters? And discovering the next generation of indistinguishable Fight Pass talent? The Grujic Era is coming, folks. Be ready.

Knockout of the Day: Dude Gets Head-Kicked Into Outer Space at Jordanian MMA Event

(Props: TheCombatSystem)

When MiddleEasy posted the above video earlier this week, they described the knockout victim as “kicked so hard that he actually levitates before his body crashes to the mat.” I would disagree with that description. “Levitation” suggests that the guy slowly floated upward before hanging out for a while in mid-air. That’s not exactly what happens here. It’s more like he immediately goes horizontal while flying backwards, like when you knock down a bad guy in Final Fight.

This happened on January 27th at the “Desert Force Finale” event put on by Desert Force Championship in Amman, Jordan. The guy you hear in the video is Dan “The Wolfman” Theodore, and yes, it is weird just to hear one guy doing play-by-play for an MMA fight will all other sounds stripped out. Kind of lonely, I guess.

Fun fact: This is not the first time we’ve featured a brutal head-kick knockout from a Desert Force Championship event. Click here to see a three-second dinger from all the way back in December 2010. Trust us, it’s worth your time.

‘WTF?’ Video of the Day: Musangwe Fighter Gets KO’d, Is Given Furious Handjob CPR

(Props: Musangwe. Kinda NSFW)

“In Musangwe it is believed that stimulating the male sexual organs after a knockout increases their chances of surviving.”

This bit of folksy medical wisdom comes from the video description of “MUSANGWE KNOCKOUT- MOST DARING CPR!“, which just came to our attention this morning even though it’s been floating around for few days. (Apologies if you’ve already seen it; we were pretty much off the grid over New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day. So…2014, eh? How ’bout that.)

As Gawker explains, Musangwe “is a form of bare-knuckle fist fighting traditionally practiced by the Venda people of South Africa.” And apparently, the rough, frantic handjob that the knockout-victim receives in the video isn’t punishment for losing — they’re trying to save his life. Still, once you add in the water-bucket it starts to look like an especially brutal fraternity hazing. I don’t know, man. There’s got to be an easier way.

My theory: At a certain point, that dude was just pretending to be asleep.

Insane Knockout Double-Feature: A 5-Second Falling Tree KO, And the Most Brutal Liver Kick You Will See All Year

One thing that has always separated CagePotato from our MMA peers — you know, aside from our standing with the UFC, our limited staff, and our “It’s 12 o’clock somewhere” policy in regards to drinking in the office — is our commitment to bringing you readers the greatest knockout videos from across the globe, no matter how rare, unknown, or shoddy the footage itself is. But every now and again, you guys repay the favor and drop something like the above gem in our mailbox. It almost melts the ice from our cold, dead hearts to know you guys actually care. Almost.

In this case, CP reader Rob Fernandes passed along a video of an amatuer bout between Ian “The Korean” Park and Jose Jovel with the subject title “Awesome 5 second KO” and a description that read “I’m sure fans wouldn’t mind seeing a semi out of shape welterweight Frankenstein his opponent.” Naturally, we felt compelled to pay it forward, so check it out and let us know what you think of Jose’s jandiwork (see what I did there?).

Of course, this wasn’t the only vicious knockout to be shared with us recently, so join us after the jump for a video of the most vicious liver kick KO since McCarthy vs. Loiseau.

Although this fight apparently transpired at the Open Cup semifinal in Moscow last January, the video was uploaded just a couple of weeks ago. We have no idea who either fighter is, but judging by how long it took the dude in the blue shorts to get to his feet, we’re going to assume that he has yet to step back into the cage (ring) since. Like we said, unknown and rare is what we do.

[VIDEO] And Now, Your First-Punch KO of the Day…

The art of the first-punch knockout is an oft underappreciated one, right up there with the opening bell diving heel hook. Most fighters don’t even get their bearings until the second round, yet crazy sons a bitches like Benjamin Pierre-Saint (I know, right?) up there are so dialed in on their opponents that they can literally end the fight before it begins. First-punch knockouts are more devastating yet simultaneously graceful than any footage of a lion attacking a gazelle you will ever see, so check out this prime example that went down at SHINE 2 last weekend and thank us later.

Knockout of the Day: Fighter Touches Gloves, Kind of Just Stands There, Gets KTFO’d [VIDEO]

(Props: Amatorska Liga MMA via KnockoutFootage)

When an MMA fighter gets KO’d immediately after a glove-tap, it often means that his opponent was being a cheap dick about it. But in the lightning-fast knockout you see above, all blame should lay upon the victim. See, if you’re going to touch gloves before a fight, do it fast and then get out of the way. DON’T lumber forward with your feet flat and your chin out. And after you do your little fist-bump, for the love of God, get your damn hands up or you will be head-kicked into an embarrassing reverse somersault, like this idiot.

If you’ll notice, the guy on the left doesn’t initiate the tap, but he’s courteous enough to oblige when dipshit over there dangles his arm out like an overcooked noodle. Guy On The Left sees an opportunity, and snatches it with a front-leg roundhouse to the face. The impact is loud, and it is awesome. The only disappointing part is that the shirtless guy still looked like he was ready to bang some more. Ah well. Let this be a lesson to the rest of you aspiring fighters: After the ref starts the fight, “Wait, bro, I wasn’t ready” isn’t really a valid excuse.
