Brian Ortega caught up with MMAJunkie earlier today to talk about his upcoming fight with Chan Sung Jung. There is a lot to be talked about with these two, they certainly don’t think the world of one another.
Ortega opened up on his incident at UFC 248 earlier this year with Jung and pop star Jay Park:
“I’m not personal at all. I had my moment, I handled my moment. I did what I did, and that was it. I don’t think about it too much, I don’t think about it on the daily, it doesn’t bother me. I don’t look at that as bad blood (or) anything.
“I’m just like, yo, like Logan Paul said man, even after I did my incident I walked past him, I was very calm. I’m the man, just talk shit get hit man. That’s where I come from.
The Diaz brothers aren’t the only people that’re from a city where if you’re acting a certain way you get slapped. And yeah, as much as you grow up and try to learn things to do better, sometimes it comes out, and it came out.”
He was then asked how he saw his upcoming fight with ‘Korean Zombie’ playing out:
“A slugfest, basically. Me and him kinda already have our thing where we wanna hit each other in the face. So, yeah, honestly I just see a slugfest. And some technical work but, yeah we kinda don’t like each other.”
This whole thing between ‘T-City’ and ‘Korean Zombie’ started when they were scheduled to face one another at UFC Busan last December, and they were nothing but respectful toward one another in the lead up.
Ortega pulled out of the fight citing a knee injury, and Jung ended up facing, and defeating Frankie Edgar instead.
Jung then accused Ortega of ducking him on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, with the help of translator and friend Jay Park. ‘T-City’ didn’t take lightly to these comments, which led to him slapping Park at UFC 248 when they came face-to-face.
Luckily, these two are finally going to square off in the main event of UFC Fight Night 181, October 17. We get a potential five rounds of non-stop action between these two, and they’re two of the most entertaining fighters in the sport.
‘T-City’ hasn’t competed since his losing effort in a title shot against Max Holloway at UFC 231, that was back in December of 2018. ‘Korean Zombie’ last fought in December of 2019, but he’s proven he can compete at a very high level after time away.
Ortega has some of the very best BJJ in the entire sport, but also has good hands and is as tough as they come. Jung has some of the best boxing in the entire sport, with some good kicks and pretty wicked grappling of his own to go along with it. This is going to be a great fight!
Who do you see winning this epic featherweight main event?

Alexander Volkanovski is more than happy to face the Korean Zombie next — provided he beats Brian Ortega first.
Volkanovski recently defended his featherweight title against Max Holloway at UFC 251 earlier this month and is now looking ahead to who he will face next. The top contenders seem to be Korean Zombie and Zabit Magomedsharipov and Volkanovski agrees.
That said, he feels both of them need to win one more fight to truly cement themselves as the next in line.
“[Korean] Zombie keeps running his mouth, even though he’s got another one before him, but I mean, still, that’s always intriguing, that’s a fun fight,” Volkanovski told Submission Radio recently. “You know he’s just going to look for the finish, which, again, if someone is just going to be aggressive like that, that’s good for me, that’s a fun fight. Same with even Zabit as well. I think they’re the two frontrunners, Zabit and Zombie. But again, they just need a fight. Someone just needs a fight, get an impressive win and I guarantee you, everyone’s going to be screaming their name. I guarantee you, if Zombie knocks out Ortega or Zabit knocks out or does a crazy submission to Yair Rodriguez, I guarantee you, guys are gonna be like, ‘that’s the fight I want’. You guys will be, everyone will be.
“So, that’s the fight I want. I want an exciting fight and I want a person that everyone goes, this has to be the guy, he’s gonna do it. Man, I hope I’m the underdog. I mean, I love it. I love people saying this is the guy that’s going to take him out, and then I go out and prove them wrong again.”
Volkanovski Happy To Give Zombie A Beating
The Korean Zombie, meanwhile, wants Volkanovski right away as he recently called out the featherweight champion following UFC 251.
However, he was criticized by Ortega for doing so, especially as he claimed he couldn’t fight Ortega because of travel restrictions but was ready to fight Volkanovski. And Volkanovski seems to be on the side of Ortega when it comes to that matter.
“I want the bullies, but at the same time, it seems like the bullies are his manager or something, which already got a good slapping from Ortega so they shut up for a while,” Volkanovski added. “Zombie’s a pretty cool dude, but if he’s gonna let his team run their mouths, he deserves a beating for it as well. But definitely. That’s a good fight.
“But with Ortega saying he doesn’t believe Zombie, you can’t really believe him for saying that because supposedly Zombie can fight me, but can’t fight Ortega. So, it just doesn’t really make sense. So, he’s calling me out saying he wants to fight me and blah, blah, blah, but at the same time telling Ortega that he’s got these restrictions and he can’t fight. So, you can see where Ortega’s coming with that.”
Whatever happens in the end, whoever Volkanovski faces next is guaranteed to be a barnburner thanks in part to how stacked the featherweight division currently is.

UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski recently talked about potential frontrunners for the next shot at his featherweight world title.
The champ recently sat down and spoke with Sky Sports Radio where he was asked about who could potentially be next in line for a title shot,
“Well, there’s a few. We got like probably four guys that are like all in the same boat, they’re all probably one win away from being the No. 1 contender. They’re all like just there but they just need to have that fight and everybody is going to be screaming their name. Now that I got the win, let the division play out, then hopefully by the end of the year they got that No. 1 contender,” Volkanovski said.
“But right now there’s a couple of frontrunners, maybe Zombie and Zabit, I’d say they’re probably the frontrunners. If they get a win they’ll be clear ahead of the No. 1 contenders and I look forward to taking them on.”
While The Korean Zombie is set to fight Brian Ortega and Magomedshairpov is supposed to fight Yair Rodriguez later this summer. Those are the four men who Volkanovski believes are next in line for his belt, as well as Calvin Kattar.
The featherweight title picture is very crowded and only time will tell before we see who emerges as the top contender.
Who do you think emerges at the next Featherweight title challenger? Korean Zombie, Ortega, Zabit, Rodriguez or Kattar?

Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has responded after Chan Sung Jung AKA ‘The Korean Zombie’ called him out in the aftermath of UFC 251.
Volkanovski retained his title in controversial circumstances on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi this past weekend. The Australian picked up a split decision win in his rematch with former champion Max Holloway. It was a decision that didn’t sit well with many MMA fans and fighters, including the ‘Korean Zombie’ who took to social media to blast the result.
“I am responding to yesterday’s title match against Volkanovski and Holloway,” Jung wrote on Instagram. “To be honest, it is shameful that Volkanovski is a champion of my weight class.
“Give him to me then you don’t need to worry about the judges decision. As you know, I won’t let the judges decide the result of my fight. I will finish him at the title match and that is what UFC fans want to watch.”
In an interview with ESPN Volkanovski took time out to respond to Jung and suggested the South Korean needs to handle his beef with Brian Ortega before he can earn a featherweight title shot, he said.
“I don’t know, maybe he’s got one of his boys writing some stuff for him again. Straight after my last fight, he started – or one of his teammates or manager – starting getting lippy, and started carrying on, and then one of them got slapped for it and then they went quiet. Brian Ortega gave them a good slapping and they stopped talking for awhile. Maybe they need another good slapping to keep them quiet.”
“He’s probably just trying to hype the fight up but I think he needs to fight Brian Ortega. I think that’s what they plan on doing. And again, I want them number one contenders. You go out there and you take out Brian Ortega, I’m sure everyone’s gonna be screaming your name and I’m gonna be there waiting. 100 percent.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)
