At KSW 97, live from Poland, on August 24, the Polish striker Wiktoria Czy?ewska was able to improve to 4-1 in MMA with a showstopping head-kick knockout. She finished Venezuela’s Erianny Castaneda at just 2:09 into round 1. The 20-year-old fighter has won all four of her MMA matches by way of first-round knockout. KSW 95

After five meetings between the pair, KSW bantamweight champion Jakub Wik?acz may have finally put his rivalry with Sebastian Prybysz to bed after securing a stunning second-round submission win over his long-time nemesis, at KSW 95.

Wik?acz could not have done it in a more dramatic fashion, with both men firing out of the blocks from the opening round. Wik?acz looked to be in trouble after receiving a pair of heavy elbows and seeing a nasty cut open up above his right eye. The hometown hero was able to regroup and locked in a lethal guillotine to send the crowd into raptures as he secured one of the most memorable victories of his career.

In the co-main event, heavyweight champion Phil De Fries successfully defended his title for the tenth time with a unanimous decision win over Brazil’s Augusto Sakai. The champion controlled proceedings for the bulk of the contest, which never really exploded into life. However, in the end, De Fries was a clear winner in the judges’ eyes, with all three scoring it 49-46 on the scorecards.

Earlier in the night, newcomer Tymoteusz ?opaczyk put the KSW welterweight division on notice with a flawless performance against the fifth-ranked Brian Hooi. ?opaczyk nullified Hooi’s stand-up threat, moving in and out and landing shots without allowing his opponent to establish a rhythm. ?opaczyk’s ground game also came into play as the fight wore on, making it a long night in the cage for Hooi. It will be interesting to see who KSW pairs ?opaczyk with next.

UFC and PFL vet Marcin Held also returned to the winner’s circle, grinding out a unanimous decision win over Roman Szymanski. The win will set Held up for bigger fights in the lightweight division.

KSW 95

Poland’s KSW returns Friday 7th of June with KSW 95 set to take place inside the Hala Urania in Olsztyn, Poland. KSW 95 can be watched by purchasing the event at KSWTV or viaplay depending on the region.

An Epic Rivalry Continues

Headlining the nine-fight card is an anticipated bantamweight title bout, with Jakub Wiklacz defending his strap against long-time foe, and the man he took the belt from, Sebastian Przybys.

Friday night’s clash will be the pair’s fifth meeting and the fourth under KSW’s banner. All four bouts have ended up in the hands of the judges, with Wiklacz holding a 2-1 lead in the series. Their most recent encounter at KSW 86 finished in a draw after the contest went to a technical decision in the fourth following an illegal blow by Wiklacz.

After spending years facing off against one another both men will be eager to put a definitive end to the rivalry so expect an exciting chess match between the two top-ranked bantamweights in KSW.

A heavyweight Banger As The Co-Main Event

The night’s penultimate bout features the UK’s Phil De Fries defending his heavyweight strap for the tenth time as he takes on Brazil’s Augusto Sakai.

De Fries has dominated the KSW heavyweight scene since capturing the title back at KSW 43, with seven of his nine defenses coming via stoppage. His tenth defense looks set to be memorable one way or the other as he squares off against UFC and Bellator veteran Sakai.

The 33-year-old Saki left the UFC on a high following his win over Don’tale Mayes in February 2023. Sakai has yet to taste championship gold in a professional career which began in 2011, but he has shared the cage with the likes of Alistair Overeem and Cheick Kongo.  The chance to earn his first major title will undoubtedly see the Brazilian firing on all cylinders, and with De Fries hungry to reach ten title defenses, expect to see fireworks.

Lopaczyk’s Debut And Held’s Return

Fans will also want to pay attention to the lightweight matchup between Roman Szymanski and former UFC veteran Marcin Held. Respectively, ranked 6th and 7th in the lightweight division, both men will be seeking to use this week’s encounter as a springboard to more high-stakes bouts in the future.

Keep an eye out for Polish welterweight Tymoteusz Lopaczyk, with the 28-year-old set to make his promotional debut at KSW 95. He comes into this week’s contest riding a three-fight winning streak and will be welcomed into KSW by Brian Hooi, ranked fifth in the welterweight division, who is set to provide a measuring stick of where Lopaczyk fits in the division.

KSW 95: Wiklacz vs. Przybysz 5 : Full Fight Card

  • Phil De Fries vs. Augusto Sakai: KSW Heavyweight Championship

Video: Former boxing champ Krzysztof G?owacki lands stunning KO from the bottom while mounted at KSW 83

Krzysztof G?owacki KO KSW Colosseum 2

Saturday, June third of 2023, Krzysztof G?owacki proved at KSW Colosseum 2 that not all boxers who transition into MMA are in for a rough time. In his MMA debut against Patryk To?kaczewski, G?owacki found himself in the worst position possible for a striker and, still made the seemingly impossible happen.

It’s been said for ages now that the best base for martial arts is wrestling or jiu-jitsu, or a variant of grappling like sambo for instance. In fact, history has proved that boxers often suffer an extremely hard time transitioning into MMA. While this doesn’t mean there’s no hope at all for a boxer to succeed in the sport, there’s just been countless examples of boxers particularly getting brutally dominated in aspects of MMA that are foreign to them.

However, there will always be outliers and oddities. At KSW Colosseum 2, Krzysztof G?owacki proved that he is one of those outliers. Now, that’s not to say every single one of his fights will end with him viciously knocking out his opponent, but in the case of his MMA debut, it certainly proved true.

Krzysztof G?owacki does the unthinkable and cements himself into a legendary circle of people who’ve pulled off one of the rarest knockouts in MMA

The knockout we’re discussing today is one of the rarest to happen in MMA. To have the strength and precision to knock out a trained fighter while fully mounted and on the bottom is just absurd. People could call it luck, but if you review the footage carefully, you could see the practice, experience, and skill behind the strike that knocked out Patryk To?kaczewski.

In a weekend that had its fair share of marvelous knockouts, including the legend Jim Miller scoring the fastest KO of his long and glorious career at UFC Vegas 74: Krzysztof G?owacki’s still takes the cake. Honestly, it’s not even a question either. The man is a talented fighter and had a very successful boxing career with a record of 32-4 that even saw him winning a WBO championship.

Even though he had a successful boxing career, one could’ve still assumed his transition into MMA was going to be extremely rough. However, as the footage shows, the Polish boxer turned MMA fighter might show some promise yet.

As the footage shows, G?owacki is fully mounted and it looks as if his opponent is about to have his way with him. However, instead of turning to give his back up or something foolish such as that: G?owacki kept his composure and delivered one of the most gorgeous hooks from the bottom that has probably ever occurred in recorded human history. No joke. While some may call it a lucky shot as was previously mentioned, a trained eye would see the form, precision, and timing delivered with that strike and realize the evident skill Krzysztof G?owacki possesses.

What do you rate that knockout on a scale of one to ten?

Five MMA Prospects

Mixed Martial Arts is forever growing and improving as a sport, from the promotions that provide this to us, to the stars and future contenders who make it exactly what it is. Longstanding champions were overthrown by current stars and future prospects announced themselves to the world.

Contenders such as Muhammad Mokaev, Jack Della Maddalena, and Sergei Pavlovich were just a few of the brightest stars that emerged in 2022. This year has allowed many prospects to announce themselves into the mixed martial arts world, and 2023 will be no different.

Therefore, let us take a look at five prospects you should definitely be keeping your eye on throughout 2023.

MMA Prospects To Watch In 2023

Salahdine Parnasse

This one should come as no surprise for the avid MMA fan. Ranked on our ‘Top 10 MMA Prospects To Watch in 2022’ list, Salahdine Parnasse is an extremely talented mixed martial artist.

Parnasse is the current KSW Featherweight champion and interim lightweight champion. Amassing an impressive 17-1 record at just 25, including a defense of the full featherweight title, the Moroccan French fighter has achieved a great amount already. Signing with KSW in 2017, Parnasse would secure three victories inside the promotion before claiming the interim featherweight title, defeating Roman Szymanski via TKO. A defense of the interim belt would follow before Parnasse would face his first professional defeat being knocked out by Daniel Torres.

Parnasse would bounce back from his defeat and secure a submission victory over Filip Pejic like a true champion. Following this up, the 25-year-old would then successfully defeat the only man to beat him inside a cage when he reclaimed the featherweight title from Daniel Torres.

He would close his year out by claiming double champion status after he defeated Sebastian Rajewski at KSW 76 to win the KSW Lightweight title. Four wins in a row now for Parnasse puts him in a good position to continue his fine form heading into 2023.

Lerone Murphy

‘The Miracle’ may be one of the more known names on our list but that doesn’t prevent him from being a true prospect heading into 2023. Murphy was signed to the UFC after going 8-0 on the UK regional scene. A disappointing debut that resulted in a draw left fans unable to realize the 31-year-olds full potential.

However, he quickly showed them exactly who he was when he returned to the octagon. A first-round knockout of Ricardo Ramos came back in 2020 which he would then follow up with a dominant decision victory over the extremely tough, Douglas Silva De Andrade.

Murphy was not in competition for almost ten months following that victory but returned at UFC 267 to face Makwan Amirkhani. Closing the year out in style the Manchester Top Team fighter landed a devastating knee to put Amirkhani out cold and record his seventh stoppage victory since turning professional.

No octagon appearances in 2022 left admirers of the British fighter devastated, but we are hopeful we will get to see this talent return to the cage in 2023.

Christian Leroy Duncan

Christian Leroy Duncan may be one of the next top contenders to emerge from Cage Warriors. Currently championing their middleweight division, Duncan has looked better with every single outing.

The 27-year-old currently sits 7-0 as a professional and will be looking to extend that undefeated record even further when he takes on American veteran, Jesse Taylor at Cage Warriors 148. A lick striker on the feet has seen five of Duncan’s seven professional bouts end inside the distance, most recently landing a beautiful spinning elbow and combination of punches when he defeated Marain Dimitrov at Cage Warriors 146.

Should Duncan notch another defense in impressive fashion at CW 148, do not be surprised in the UFC comes knocking for this extremely talented prospect.

Tatiana Suarez

Tatiana Suarez is one of the top prospects in WMMA and thankfully, she looks set to return to competition in 2023. Having not competed since 2019 it is understandable for news fans to not be familiar with her name, but for those of us who have been following the sport longer we know just how talented Suarez is. Undefeated at 8-0, the American fighter is a serious threat to the strawweight champion, Zhang Weili.

UFC Fight Night 129 in 2018 saw Suarez take out one of the top contenders in the division when she submitted Alexa Grasso in the very first round. Following up on this Suarez would face former title holder, Carla Esparza, in what was her biggest challenge to date. She passed this test with flying colors when she was able to TKO the former champion in the third round. One outing in 2019 when she defeated Nina Nunes via unanimous decision would be the last time Suarez was seen in competition.

Should the rumors be true of her return in 2023, the strawweight division will certainly be put on notice.

Michael Morales

22-year-old Michael Morales is most definitely one MMA prospect to keep your eye on in 2023. A perfect 14-0, Morales carries devastating power which has seen him stop 12 of his 14 opponents so far in his career. Competing across multiple regional promotions, Morales signed with the UFC following a victory on Dana White’s Contender Series 2021, since signing he has not looked back.

A first-round devastating finish of Trevin Giles helped announce Morales to the mixed martial arts community. He would then follow up on this impressive victory when he stopped short-notice opponent, Adam Fugitt, at UFC 277.

The Ecuadorian fighter has a bright future ahead, still, early on in his career, you can only expect Morales to improve and build a well-rounded style that will help see him climb to the very top of the welterweight division.

Mamed Khalidov KSW 77

Former KSW middleweight and light heavyweight champion, Mamed Khalidov is back in the winner’s enclosure following his stunning knockout loss to Croatian kickboxer, Roberto Soldic last year — stopping heavyweight favorite, Mariusz Pudzianowski with a slew of first round ground strikes in the main event of KSW 77 in Gliwice, Poland.

Khalidov, a former light heavyweight champion and two-time middleweight champion under the banner of KSW, suffered a heavy knockout loss to recent ONE Championship debutante, Soldic a year ago yesterday.

As for Polish veteran, Pudzianowski, the 45-year-old former strongman, who boasts a 17-8(1) professional record following tonight’s first round ground strikes loss to Khalidov — headlined back in May against Michal Materla, landing a stunning knockout victory which earned him a Knockout of the Night honor.

Turning in a one-sided first round win, Mamed Khalidov quickly scored a huge takedown on Pudzianowski in the first round, before moving to the back of the Polish veteran.

Raining down with a barrage of ground strikes to Pudzianowski, Khalidov forced referee, Marc Goddard to call a halt to the highly-anticipated headlining clash in the first minute of the iconic pairing, after securing hooks, and flattening the former out onto the canvas, who eventually tapped to first round strikes.
