Khamzat Chimaev is a man on a mission in 2021 and according to him, will not stop until that title belt is wrapped around his waist.

On March 13th, Chimaev is scheduled to fight Leon Edwards in the main event of that card and his training and preparation for that fight seem to going well based on a new video out where he rips apart a heavy bag while performing numerous slams and suplexes on it.

Granted, the bag already looked to be on its last leg already, Chimaev looks to be in good form coming into this bout after recovering from contracting COVID-19. (H/T MMA Fighting)

“I want to smash him. I want to destroy him.” Chimaev said

Throughout the video this is a common theme for Chimaev.

“I want to take his head. I have nine right now, but soon I’ll have ten. Then we’ll continue collecting more.”

Chimaev has also recently said that he has never watched Edwards fight beside a couple of highlights from his loss in December 2015 to current welterweight champ Kamaru Usman.

“If Usman won like that, I’ll demolish him,” Chimaev said. “He has no knockout power or anything special at all. I’ll dominate both him and Usman.”

Chimaev is coming off of a thunderous first round knock out in September of 2020 over Gerald Meerschaert. He is undefeated at 9-0 and has dominant wins in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions. He is currently ranked number fifteen at 170 pounds.

Edwards has not fought since July of 2019, where he beat Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision. He is currently on a eight fight win streak in the UFC, having not loss since that fight with Usman. He is currently ranked number three at 170 pounds.

Who wins this fight? Khamzat Chimaev or Leon Edwards?

The UFC’s fastest biggest prospect of 2020, Khamzat Chimaev, currently has a fight booked against number 3 ranked welterweight Leon Edwards, in what promises to be his toughest matchup to date. Despite this, Chimaev has gone on to state that he has yet to watch a full fight of Edwards’.

Speaking to Frontkick Online, Khamzat detailed his self-confidence in regards to the Edwards fight, showing zero respect to the Englishman’s skillset. Chimaev had the following to say on the matter:

“I’ve never seen Edwards fight, I’ve only seen highlights of Usman beating him. Highlights on YouTube, something like that. If Usman won like that, I’ll demolish him. He has no knockout power or anything special at all. I’ll dominate both him and Usman. Inshallah. Soon.”

Chimaev went on to reveal his mentality in regards to not only the Edwards fight, but also the future of his MMA career.

“I want to smash him, brother. I want to destroy him. I want to take his head, And collect every head like this. I have nine right now, but soon I’ll have 10. Then we’ll continue collecting more.”

“Take everyone’s head, both in welterweight and middleweight. That’s my goal. People talk about hype, yada yada yada. But you guys know what I’m doing here. Nobody in the entire world does it like me”

Chimaev has been incredibly successful since joining the UFC, with three finishes in three fights. However, Leon Edwards will serve as a huge step up in class for ‘Borz’. Whether the hype train behind Chimaev is justified or not will be revealed on March 13.

UFC welterweight Khamzat Chimaev recently visited his native Chechnya and wasn’t wearing a mask either.

Chimaev was set to compete against top-ranked Birmingham native Leon Edwards on January 20 in a highly-anticipated welterweight headliner.

However, the fight was called off for the second time after Chimaev had to pull out due to lung issues stemming from a positive COVID-19 test. Edwards had notably tested positive for COVID-19 which led to their December fight being off.

For now, Chimaev is recovering and feels much better after revealing his positive COVID-19 test was a month ago. But despite his recent test, “The Wolf” chose not to wear a mask as he spoke to reporters in Chechnya with fans present around the area.

“I had to pull out because of the virus,” Chimaev said (via RT Sport). “That was a month ago. Right now I’m recovering. I feel better and will train at home. My head was hurting so I took a test and it came back positive.”

One would imagine a mask would be all the more important especially when Chimaev had tested positive for the virus and had to deal with issues stemming from it.

Meanwhile, Edwards was hoping to stay on the January 20 card only for the UFC to promote Michael Chiesa vs. Neil Magny to main event status.

The UFC’s plan is to have Edwards vs. Chimaev take place on another date. Assuming it’s February at the earliest, that would mean Chimaev would go five months without a fight after enjoying three victories in the space of two months following his promotional debut in July.

While his momentum has taken a hit, a dominant win over a top contender like Edwards will certainly put the Chimaev hype train back in full swing.

What do you think of Chimaev not wearing a mask despite a positive COVID-19 test a month prior?

Thompson Edwards

There could have been a possibility of fans getting to watch Leon Edwards vs. Stephen Thompson next month.

Thompson is coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory over Geoff Neal in the UFC Vegas 17 headliner earlier this month.

While he pretty much outclassed Neal over five rounds, Thompson wasn’t able to come out unscathed. He suffered a cut on his face due to an accidental headbutt while he also injured his leg in the fourth round which led to swelling above his kneecap.

“Wonderboy” was clearly in pain but managed to ride it out in the final round to come away with the unanimous decision victory.

For now, he’s waiting on an MRI to determine the nature of the injury as well as how long he will be sidelined.

“I get an MRI on it tomorrow,” Thompson told MMA Fighting on Wednesday. “We’ve got to see what kind of tear it’s going to be. I think I have a quad tear. Hopefully it’s just a muscle and not the tendon. If it’s a tendon, I’ll have to have surgery. I couldn’t come out of that fight unscathed. Come on!

“… I had two cuts on my face that are pretty much healed up. I have the cut from the head butt that is healing up nicely, and I’m still gimping around on my right leg. After the fight, we took the nieces and nephews to Disney World, and I had to be pushed around in a wheelchair for the first two days. After that, I was like, ‘Listen, I’ve got to get moving around on this thing.’ I’m still gimping around on it, teaching karate classes.

“We’ll find out hopefully tomorrow or the next day what the damage is, and hopefully, it’s not that bad and I’ll get back in there.”

If Thompson did come out unscathed, however, he would have considered stepping in to face Edwards.

Edwards was set to battle Khamzat Chimaev in the UFC’s January 20 headliner only for the latter to pull out due to lung issues from a positive COVID-19 test.

“Wonderboy” was initially looking to fight Edwards as well before settling on Neal. Fate had other ideas, though.

“He was who I was shooting for to begin with,” Thompson said. “Of course, he was not having it. I’m not really sure what happened with Khamzat, but I would have loved to stepped out there and fought him for sure.

“But at this point, with the injury and stuff, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen but I would love to have faced him. That would have been awesome.”

However, even if he was fully healthy, it would also depend on his coaches given the short notice.

“The last thing I want to do is to be able to have that quick turnaround and not feel good about it,” Thompson added. “Of course, I’m sitting here injured and I’d love to sit here and say that I’d do it but that’s why you have coaches to make sure that you’re 100 percent before you do that.”

Hopefully, Thompson won’t be on the sidelines for too long.
