MMA fighters Leon Edwards, Darren Till, and Jimi Manuwa have joined forces to help reduce knife crime in Britain.

Edwards spoke out earlier this week after a flurry of stabbings took place in his hometown of Birmingham, England. Speaking on the Eurobash podcast, he said he was heartbroken to see so many young lives being lost to senseless violence

“It’s getting crazy, that kid that got stabbed in that video I posted yesterday, it was actually one of my best friend’s cousins that got stabbed. I only found out about it today; I didn’t even know about it until this morning that it’s one of my best pal’s cousins, so I was like, ‘Oh f*ck.’

“Yesterday alone there were three or four stabbings in Birmingham, which is f*ckin’ madness in a lockdown.

“I feel like I’m in the perfect position,” he explained. “I’ve been there and done that, and I can try my best to show them another way. It is hard, though. There’s not really an answer that I can give to fix it all. But to see little kids getting stabbed to death in broad daylight, in a lockdown, it’s heartbreaking to see it.

Retired light heavyweight Manuwa revealed yesterday he was linking up with fellow MMA fighters to try to help the bleak situation, he wrote on Twitter.

“I’m speaking with fighters and we are coming together and need to speak to the government about helping the youths in all our cities cross the uk to help reduce the killings and lives going to waste in prison.”

Today Edwards, Manuwa and Till all simultaneously posted a social media message announcing they would be working together to help reduced knife crime. Specific details about their plans aren’t yet known and will be revealed in due course.

Do you think Leon Edwards, Darren Till and Jimi Manuwa will be able to help prevent knife crime in the UK?

Tyron Woodley continues to be in the spotlight on social media.

The former welterweight champion has been in the headlines recently after going back-and-forth with Israel Adesanya. Woodley has also been calling for fights with Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington as he seems to have little interest in facing his planned UFC London opponent Leon Edwards.

Edwards, meanwhile, believes Woodley is avoiding him by not calling him out to which the latter responded to:

“Can he come to the US?? No! I’m calling out champions, harder match ups and people who are ranked higher. ? why would I call him out? He was always a stepping stone to the throne. End of story”

Edwards would retort back on Wednesday:

“Your like a groupie trying to get back stage with these call outs. the facts are you ain’t getting a title shot anytime soon, the facts are your easy work for me ,the facts are you say no to every fight, the facts are you have made yourself look a fool this past month. be patient”

Woodley would later go on the offensive by bringing up Edwards’ infamous scuffle with Jorge Masvidal at UFC London last year:

“[Shut] your b*tch ass up ??? Fact is people know you for getting worked (3Pieced) and not your work. Don’t make me pull video when you were all on my nuts”

“Since you are @GamebredFighter ‘s b*tch let me hit him and see if it’s even cool I respond. Groupie ass on here begging like a hoe to fight me. ?

Edwards responded one last time before deciding he had enough:

??? you literally just did it again bringing up another mans name. Dont steal my groupie line.. your meant to be the one with the bars.. Your my b*tch old man. Take some time off because social media has not been good for you this past month. Save your Ls for when we fight”

“Ok Im going to bed these so called top ranked fighters make me laugh. things will be different when im champion. take care everyone”

Woodley would then post the link of Edwards’ altercation with Masvidal.

Edwards and Woodley were previously booked to face each other in the UFC London headliner last month before government restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancelation of the event.

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards believes Tyron Woodley is doing everything possible to avoid fighting him next.

Edwards and Woodley were scheduled to meet in the UFC London headliner last month until the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced the event to be postponed. Since then, Woodley has heavily campaigned for a fight with Colby Covington and a rematch with Kamaru Usman. Most recently, he has also spoken of the possibility of moving up in the future and facing middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

Edwards already called Woodley out for the latter and explained in a recent interview why he feels the former champion is avoiding him.

“He made every excuse in the book [the first time], and not once has he called my name since the fight was postponed,” Edwards told the SCMP. “He’s been calling out everyone else apart from me. He doesn’t want to fight me.

“He’s getting up there in age. I think he knows that, if I beat him, where does he go? He’d be on a back-to-back losing streak and I reckon he knows I’ve got all the tools to beat him. That’s why he’s running from it.”

It’s not that Woodley is a dream opponent for Edwards. However, the Birmingham native currently on a seven-fight win streak believes one more win would land him a title shot.

And he believes a win over Woodley or Colby Covington would earn him just that.

“I would love to shut him up,” Edwards said of Covington. “I’ve never liked the guy. I feel it’s a great match-up. He’s like Usman but less powerful. He’s a pace fighter. He has the cardio, he wants to keep the pace up and break you that way. I think if you don’t let him push you back, he’s quite easy to beat. Technically, he’s just a standard fighter.

“I’m looking for a title shot. If I have to do one more before the title shot, then Colby or Woodley would be perfect.”

Stephen Thompson is eyeing a top five contender when he returns to action and his preference seems to be Leon Edwards.

Thompson returned to winning ways following an impressive unanimous decision victory over Vicente Luque at UFC 244 in November. His next outing will have to wait for now as all UFC events are indefinitely postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

When “Wonderboy” does eventually return to action, he wants a highly-ranked contender. Two that top the list for him are Edwards and former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington.

But Thompson’s preference is the former as he believes Edwards is the superior mixed martial artist:

“Those are always the guys that I’m looking for, anybody in the top-5 for sure,” Thompson told MMA Fighting. “You’ve got Leon Edwards—I’ve already fought Tyron twice, I don’t think anybody wants to see that again—but Colby Covington for sure. Both guys are very, very high level in their craft, and I think that Leon Edwards is the better MMA fighter than both.

“He’s got really good striking, and that’s what he was in the beginning was a good striker, but now you’re seeing him use his wrestling, his jiu-jitsu, he used it against RDA. When he fought Vicente Luque, he took him down, I was like, ‘What the heck?’ And those are the guys you really have to prepare for because they’re different every time they step out there and Leon Edwards is that guy, which is why he’s on a crazy fight winning streak.”

It’s a topic that is certainly up for debate but for Thompson, it all comes down to the sport of mixed martial arts. He knows what Covington is going to do; Edwards, meanwhile, will mix things up.

In the end, however, Thompson will fight either of them:

“Colby Covington, everybody knows what’s gonna happen when I fight him,” Thompson explained. “He’s just gonna shoot and shoot and shoot and shoot. His striking doesn’t even compare. Could he hit you and knock you out? For sure, but I’ve definitely fought better strikers than him and I think Leon Edwards is the better MMA fighter for sure and those are the guys I want to fight right there.

“Any one of them, I really don’t care at this point in my career. I’m ranked No. 5, I’ve got a small window to kind of do what I want to do and I want to fight the best in the world. Who can say that, right? It’s like an anime. You’re fighting the best guys in the world, it’s crazy. I’m like, heck yeah man, let’s do it.”

While Thompson does have a small window of time left at 37, he claims he still feels better than ever.

Do you think Thompson will end up going on another streak and getting one more title shot? And who do you want to see him face next?
