Former UFC welterweight title challenger Colby Covington will stop at nothing to improve his skills, even at the expense of his friends.

Covington hasn’t fought in the UFC Octagon since a unanimous decision defeat to Leon Edwards at UFC 296 last year. As of this writing, he hasn’t competed in 2024, and nothing is formally in the works for his return.

Covington remains active in the gym despite his long hiatus from competition. An injury he suffered against Edwards hampered his return timeline to the Octagon.

While hanging out with rapper Lil Pump, Covington entered an impromptu grappling match. As expected, it didn’t go the novice’s way.

Covington and Lil Pump are strong supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump sat cageside to watch Covington at UFC 296, but the fight didn’t go Covington’s way.

Covington was linked to numerous potential matchups in 2024, including a clash against former American Top Team teammate Dustin Poirier. He was in the mix to face Ian Machado Garry at UFC 303 before negotiations fell through the cracks.

Covington has earned wins over the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Jorge Masivdal, and Tyron Woodley during his UFC tenure. Despite three title losses, he remains transfixed on big-money fights.

In the meantime, Covington is making the most of his time outside of the cage to recharge and recover. Meanwhile, Lil Pump likely won’t grapple again with him anytime soon.

YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul is done with punching bags. Instead, he’s honing his skills using Soundcloud rappers.

Earlier this week, ‘The Problem Child’ welcomed Lil Pump to his BS w/ Jake Paul podcast. Halfway through the interview, the ‘Gucci Gang’ musician asked Paul to punch him in the stomach as hard as he could, just so he could experience the sensation. Paul was happy to oblige and donned a pair of boxing gloves.

They climbed into a ring and Lil Pump raised his arms, ready for the worst. Paul didn’t hold back, unleashing a left to the body that sent the mumble rapper crashing to the canvas and yelling in pain.

“I told you not to do it!!” Paul quipped as Lil Pump continued wailing.

Questions surrounding Jake Paul’s fight with Mike Tyson continue to dominate headlines

Jake Paul is hoping for a similar result on July 20 when he returns to the boxing ring for a clash with former unified heavyweight world champion ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson. The bout is scheduled to emanate from the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas — home of the Dallas Cowboys. The fight will also air exclusively on Netflix to its 260 million subscribers around the world, marking the first time that the streaming giant broadcasts a live combat sports event.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Expected to be one of the most watched fights in combat sports history, the announcement of Paul vs. Tyson immediately earned criticism from pundits, the key issue being the massive age gap between the 27-year-old Paul and the 57-year-old Tyson.

Given the 30+ year difference between the two, many questions continue to surround the bout’s sanctioning. No official announcements have been made, but early rumors suggested that the two parties were aiming to have the contest sanctioned as a professional bout rather than an exhibition match.

However, a potential ruleset being passed around on social media claims that the matchup will be contested in 16-ounce gloves with two-minute rounds and no official judges. There would only be a winner if a KO or TKO occurred.

Whether or not any of that proves to be true is a different story.

Colby Covington is not exactly known as a finisher in the Octagon, but he was able to secure a submission during a recent sparring session caught on video.

Unfortunately for him, it was not on a fellow fighter but on rapper Lil Pump. And Covington is under heavy criticism for his behavior in the midst of the rear-naked choke submission he applied.

Covington locked in the submission, to which Lil Pump tapped out multiple times. But the former interim UFC welterweight champion elected to not let go, instead holding on to the choke even after Lil Pump tapped multiple times. Covington kept the move on until the rapper was rendered unconscious.

Since the incident was posted to social media, many have criticized Covington for his acts. Some have called for him to be demoted in jiu-jitsu belt ranking, while others say his behavior should get him thrown out of the sport.

Colby Covington Sparks Controversy By Choking Rapper Lip Pump Unconscious

This is not the first time that a fighter has sparked controversy for the events of a sparring session. Earlier this year, a particularly violent exchange broke out involving Sean Strickland and streamer Sneako.

Covington has not been seen in action since his unsuccessful challenge of the UFC welterweight championship against Leon Edwards at UFC 296.

Colby Covington appears to be in good spirits.

Covington suffered his first defeat since 2015 when he was TKO’d by Kamaru Usman in the fifth round of their back-and-forth welterweight title fight at UFC 245 earlier this month.

“Chaos” has not been active on social media much since but in a recent Instagram story, he was seen courtside at Miami Heat game along with rapper Lil Pump.

You can see the video below:

Covington was in good spirits and looked healthy overall other than a stitch below his right eye. If you recall, Covington notably suffered a broken jaw during his fight with Usman.

But that doesn’t appear to be a problem anymore based on the Instagram story, at least.

When it coms to returning to the Octagon, Covington is itching to compete again according to his manager and American Top Team owner Dan Lambert:

“He is a 10 out of 10 as far as what I would hope his mindset would be after a fight like that,” Lambert said. “He wants to get right back in. He wants to get right back into training. He wants to get back into training as soon as he’s ready health wise. He wants to get back and prove that he’s the best.”
