Sage Northcutt Willing To Fight YouTube Star In “Boxing Or MMA”

Could this fight actually happen?

Sage Northcutt is serious about fighting YouTube star Logan Paul.

The UFC welterweight and lightweight competitor engaged in a Twitter exchange with Paul recently. Paul hosted a self-funded boxing event on YouTube opposite KSI.

Paul and KSI boxed in the main event to a majority draw. A rematch has been discussed for next year. In the meantime, Paul is capitalizing off the publicity and is interested in fighting in the UFC. He has a high school wrestling background that he believes would serve him well in the Octagon. Paul Tweeted out recently that he’s “excited” about potentially securing a UFC fight.

Despite several responses, Northcutt’s stood out the most because of the fight offer in place. The Texan suggested he’d be interested in fighting Paul inside the cage due to his growing starpower. Paul accepted the challenge and jokingly called him Sage “Northbutt.”

Northcutt was on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show recently to discuss his confrontation with Paul on Twitter. He admits that he’s open to fighting the YouTube star in either boxing or MMA (quotes via Bloody Elbow):

“Any fighter fighting in the UFC would take the opportunity to take a fight against a YouTuber and stand to make several million dollars.

“I’m not too big for him. I definitely don’t outweigh him. It would be a lot of fun. Either [boxing or MMA] is good for the sport. I know Logan Paul just had a boxing fight.

“It takes a lot of courage just to step in a ring and do that. I think it’s a great opportunity for both of us.”

Faber Weighs In

UFC Hall of Famer and Northcutt’s coach, Urijah Faber, commented on the matter. He actually spoke to Paul about fighting Northcutt. The YouTube star is apparently game, presumably due to the cash involved:

“I asked, ‘Are you serious about fighting Sage?’ He is not opposed to it.

“He does have a wrestling background and is doing some boxing now. He’s a big, strong guy. I think there is some potential there.

”The truth is, everybody wants to put Sage up against wrestlers. Logan Paul is a bigger guy than him, and he’s a wrestler. There’s some intrigue there. Never say never.”

Sage ‘Northbutt’ Blasts YouTube Star Calling For UFC Debut

Yeah. This actually happened.

YouTube star Logan Paul might just get his shot in the UFC after all.

After his high-profile amateur boxing fight vs. KSI earlier this month, Paul set his sights on a possible UFC fight. Paul has a brief background in high school wrestling. He believes that would benefit him in a potential mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

Paul recently sent out a Tweet suggesting that the potential of landing a fight in the UFC excites him. One UFC fighter has stepped up to the challenge (or lack thereof) by responding to the YouTube sensation on Twitter.

Sage Northcutt responded to Paul’s Tweet and asked Paul to “Let me know when you wanna catch these hands”:

Paul responded to Northcutt, making a play off his name and referring to him as “Northbutt.” He told the UFC welterweight to bring it:

Even “Platinum” Mike Perry is getting in on the fun. He Tweeted out to Paul that he and his friends and Jackson-Wink would be happy to train him for a potential UFC fight:

Interesting how Jackson-Wink might consider training a mere YouTube star when they’re dealing with issues over a longtime gym member and UFC veteran.

One man who is absolutely against the whole ordeal is Darren Till. The Englishman will challenge Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight title next month at UFC 228.

Till took to Twitter and bashed a potential Logan Paul appearance in the UFC. He told the controversial YouTube star to stay in his lane:

“Every day is hard as ****, every day is a little more harder on your physical & mental state.

“Then ye get a **** coming along like this youtuber fella thinking he can mix it in the **** off will ye mate and don’t embarrass our sport.”

YouTube Star Is “Excited” About Possibly Securing UFC Fight

Would the UFC actually entertain this idea?

There’s a very real possibility the UFC gets into the business of celebrity fighting.

The seed was planted several years ago when the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotional juggernaut signed former WWE star CM Punk. Aside from his work in the world of sports entertainment, Punk has no credible athletic background.

Regardless, the UFC has allowed Punk to fight twice under their banner now – both in which he lost. Over the weekend a pair of YouTube stars put on a rather successful boxing event of their own.

Logan Paul and KSI drew in nearly 800,000 fans on pay-per-view (PPV). The YouTube stars charged fans $10 to watch them box in the United Kingdom. Their fight went the full designated six rounds and ended in a draw.

After the bout, Paul would like to use that platform to catapult him into an actual UFC fight. Paul certainly has a following behind him. He currently has 4.77 million followers on Twitter and an astonishing 16.6 million followers on Instagram.

He also has a high school wrestling background. Albeit more athletic credibility than Punk, there’s still no question Paul would be destroyed by any legitimate MMA combatant. Nonetheless, Paul took to Twitter and said he was “excited” about possibly securing a UFC fight:

“the thought of securing a fight in the is exciting… could finally use my wrestling background… but i hear some other celebrities/athletes want to catch these hands first?”

The UFC has not signed Paul or KSI to a contract and have expressed no interest in doing so as of this writing. With that being said, the MMA community wouldn’t be surprised if the UFC attempts another cash grab by allowing Paul to step into the cage.
