Speaking to Ariel Helwani of ESPN revealed how he struggled with training and was forced to pull out of his fight with Muhammad, which was originally scheduled for UFC 249 on April 18, he said.
“I knew something was up. I know my body. I’ve been through it all. I’ve been through a lot of injuries and a lot of other things. But this was different. As a professional athlete, we’re always constantly pushing our bodies. For me, my body was like my point check to see how physically I feel and everything. And my body just wasn’t there at all.”
Just one month on and it appears Good is good to go once again. The “American Cyborg” posted out to social media yesterday to confirm his welterweight bout against Muhammad had been rearranged for June 20.
Good was last seen in action late last year at UFC 244. He picked up a big win over Chance Rencountre scoring the TKO finish inside three rounds. Before that, he was submitted by BJJ wizard Demian Maia at UFC Fortaleza. Good will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins in the UFC for the first time since joining the promotion in 2015.
Muhammad is currently riding a two-fight win streak since losing to surging contender Geoff Neal in January 2019. The American picked up a unanimous decision win over Curtis Millender at UFC 236 before submitting Takashi Sato a few months later at UFC 242.

It was recently revealed by the UFC welterweight that he had contracted the coronavirus. He was originally set to face Belal Muhammad at the now-postponed UFC 249 event this past weekend only to withdraw through injury.
That injury actually turned out to be the coronavirus making Good the first contracted UFC fighter to have contracted it.
“I knew something was up. I know my body,” he said. “I’ve been through it all. I’ve been through a lot of injuries and a lot of other things. But this was different. As a professional athlete, we’re always constantly pushing our bodies. For me, my body was like my point check to see how physically I feel and everything. And my body just wasn’t there at all.”
Luckily, it wasn’t serious for Good as he has now fully recovered. His next plan of action is to get a fight and he’s already in the process of doing just that.
“Malki (Kawa) my manager called me yesterday, actually, discussing what the plans are moving forward,” Good told TMZ (via BJ Penn). “We’re definitely in the talks with the UFC right now for an upcoming fight.
“We just needed to get this out of the way and be in the clear. First and foremost, the way the UFC and my management and my coaches have been telling me, health is important, that’s the most important thing. So now that that’s good, we’re ready to move forward.”
If he does get the clear, it is certainly possible he could fight Muhammad as planned on the newly-proposed UFC 249 card set to take place May 9.

Whenever the world leader in combat sports returns to MMA’s founding country they come correct. With names like Jose Aldo and Demian Maia on the card, the casual fans should be content. While lesser known fighters like Anthony Hernandez and Ricardo Ramos scatter the card for the hardcore supporters.
Still, the six-fight main card on tap for this evening is a solid offering for the streaming service. And if it comes close to reaching the numbers that ESPN+ 1 garnered it will be considered a smashing success.
A feature welterweight bout between Demian Maia and Lyman Good will keep the action going.
Maia has long been one of the best BJJ practitioners in the sport. However, his back is somewhat against the wall as he is on a three-fight skid.
As for Good. He is riding high off of a big KO win over Ben Saunders at UFC 230. A victory over a high profile fighter such as Maia would be quite the feather in the cap of the former Bellator welterweight champ.
Round One
Maia starts off throwing a bunch of right-hand faints. Maia has Good backed up to the cage. He shoots a double and wrestles Good to the ground. Maia is like glue once he gets ahold of his opponent. Maia gets the back of Good and locks in a standing body triangle while looking for the RNC. Good is defending for the time being. Maia is peppering Good with punches. Good is pressing against the cage to help carry Maia’s weight. Maia sinks in the choke deeper and gets Good to tap standing up.
Demian Maia defeats Lyman Good via submission at 2:38 of round one
