Dan Henderson had a simple message to deliver to Lyoto Machida after finding out “The Dragon” would not be facing him this Saturday night at UFC on FOX 19.

Machida was removed from the co-main event fight after he notified USADA officials that he took a banned substance during an out-of-competition test. The former UFC light heavyweight champion stated that he did not know the substance was banned.

Due to the shortness between the Machida removal and Saturday’s card, no replacement will be found for Henderson, who was looking to avenge a previous defeat to Machida.

It would seem as if this weekend’s (Sat., April 16, 2016) UFC on FOX 19 from Tampa, Florida, just can’t catch a break.

After Tony Ferguson was forced out of his awaited match-up with top-ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov, another high-profile fighter has been forced off the card for much more nefarious reasons.

Lyoto Machida has been handed a potential USADA violation for testing positive in an out-of-competition test and his fight with Dan Henderson has been canceled. Machida admitted to taking the substance, stating that he did not know it was banned in or out of competition.

The UFC announced the news on their website with the following statement:

The UFC organization was made aware today by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency  (USADA), the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, that Lyoto Machida declared the usage of a banned substance during an out-of-competition sample collection last week. Machida stated that he was unaware that the substance was prohibited both in and out of competition and, in accordance with the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, his disclosure of usage will be taken into consideration by USADA during any potential results management and adjudication process.

Given this information, UFC officials have elected to remove Machida from his scheduled bout against Dan Henderson this Saturday in Tampa, Fla. Henderson will be re-booked for a new bout in the near future.

A former light heavyweight champion, ‘The Dragon’ has fallen on tough times as of late, losing three out of his past four fights to top middleweights Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, and Yoel Romero.

As always, Machida will be given the due process granted to all fighters who test positive for a ‘potential’ violation, but considering he’s admitted to taking the substance, the process could be rather cut and dry.

Lyoto Machida has been removed from Saturday’s UFC on FOX 19 co-main event with Dan Henderson after admitting to taking a banned substance during an out-of-competition test. Machida stated he did not know the substance was banned to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

Machida is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and one-time middleweight title contender. He previously bested Henderson.

Saturday’s card has taken quite the hit since it was first announced. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua was the first to bow out, exiting a planned fight with Rashad Evans. He was replaced by Glover Teixeira, and that bout moved into the main event role when Tony Ferguson was injured and forced out of a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The UFC has released a statement regarding the matter:

The new FOX main card will feature these four bouts, according to UFC representative Dave Sholler:

The UFC makes its way to Tampa, Florida, on Saturday night with a strong offering on Fox.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was originally scheduled to headline the event against Tony Ferguson, but a serious injury to Ferguson resulted in veteran light heavyweights Glover Teixeira and Rashad Evans moving into the five-round main event.

This is still a good fight, though it lacks the urgency of the original headliner between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson. Evans badly needs a win to stay at the top of the division, while Teixeira is trying to state his case for one more shot at the division’s elite.

Thankfully, Nurmagomedov will still be on the card. He’ll fight newcomer Darrell Horcher in what amounts to a tuneup fight after two years on the shelf battling injuries.

Perhaps the best fight pits Tecia Torres against Rose Namajunas in what probably amounts to a top-contender bout at 115 pounds. The two first met in 2013 in a fantastic back-and-forth scrap that Torres won, and both have grown substantially since then. It should be a barnburner.

The preliminary card is stacked with well-matched fights. In the Fox Sports 1 headliner, Beneil Dariush and Michael Chiesa meet in a fantastic matchup of rising lightweights. Court McGee and Santiago Ponzinibbio will also throw down in an excellent welterweight donnybrook on FS1.

John Dodson returns to bantamweight to headline the Fight Pass portion of the card against Manny Gamburyan. Also, keep an eye on the welterweight matchup between prospects Michael Graves and Randy Brown, which could steal the show.

Let’s take a look at each UFC on Fox 19 matchup.

The UFC is back on Fox this weekend, but unfortunately we will not get the lightweight title eliminator we had hoped to see.

An injury forced Tony Ferguson off the card, and Khabib Nurmagomedov will instead welcome Darrell Horcher to the UFC on the main card. The injury forced the organization to shuffle the deck a bit, elevating No. 4-ranked light heavyweight Glover Teixeira vs. No. 9-ranked Rashad Evans to the main event.

The new co-main event is a rematch between No. 5-ranked middleweight Lyoto Machida and No. 14-ranked Dan Henderson.

The televised fight card still has significant implications in the light heavyweight and middleweight divisions. That makes it worth taking a closer look at the top two billed bouts coming your way this Saturday.

Here is your head-to-toe breakdown of the main and co-main events at UFC on Fox 19.
