Fedor_training_06Iconic Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko (31-3, 1NC) will head to Holland as part of his preparations for his next fight. Just a few days ago, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed that “The Last Emporer” would make his next cage appearance in July against an unnamed opponent.

Speaking to the media at the film debut of “The Salamander Key” (formerly The Fifth Execution) in Moscow, Fedor plays one of several hired guns to track down a group of missing international scientists who disappear on a remote island in South-Eastern Asia. The Russian spoke about his preparations for his next fight.

Fedor has traditionally trained for his matches in his home town of Stariy Oskol but appears ready to make a change in his fight preparations after losing two straight fights. He was soundly defeated in the second round last November by opponent Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and was submitted by Fabricio Werdum last summer.

“This Sunday I’ll fly out to Holland to have a two-week training camp. Then, I’ll return back home to Stariy Oskol to continue my preparations. I’m going to fight this summer. I still don’t know who will be my opponent, but it’s something currently in works. I didn’t train abroad since 2005. We have a really good relationship with Muay Thai coaches in Holland, so I’m really looking forward to this training camp.”

Props to Lowkick.com for the update who also have the video interview with Fedor posted on their site, so if you understand Russian check it out.

fedor emelianenko iiiAfter a loss last month to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, there were many questions concerning the future of Russian heavyweight Fedor Emeliaenko (31-3, 1NC), including doubts from “The Last Emporer” himself as he talked of retirement immediately after the loss.

Fedor’s management has since assured the mma world that Fedor would not be retiring, and was just feeling down after suffering the first back-to-back loss of his career.

Now Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has come out saying that the he expects the Russian to make his return for another fight in July against an unnamed opponent.

Speaking on the Sherdog Radio Network on Wednesday, Coker broke the news of Fedor’s return but hinted that the fighters future within the sport would likely hinge on the outcome of this next fight.

“Fedor’s gonna fight sometime in July. It’s probably toward the end of July or mid-July, but we have fights with Fedor that we’re gonna honor and continue forward. We’re gonna do the co-branding exercise that we do with M-1 every time we do fights with them. The opponent has not been chosen, but I think having Fedor involved close to the tournament as an alternate is definitely a possibility…I think this next one’s gonna be very important. He’s gonna have to perform.”

M-1 Global Says Fedor Under Contract With Showtime

Fans will likely remember the ‘mud slinging’ done by both UFC President Dana White and representatives from M-1 Global after the fall of Affliction as a mixed martial arts promotion, as both sides failed to come to an agreement over signing Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, who eventually signed with Strikeforce.

Fedor_running_07Fans will likely remember the ‘mud slinging’ done by both UFC President Dana White and representatives from M-1 Global after the fall of Affliction as a mixed martial arts promotion, as both sides failed to come to an agreement over signing Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, who eventually signed with Strikeforce.

Now advance almost a year-and-a-half, and the company that owns the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Zuffa, has gone and purchased the Strikeforce promotion in one of the biggest mma news stories in North America.

UFC President Dana White has gone on to assure fans and fighters, that they will be honoring all current Strikeforce contracts. Despite this fact, many are still soured on the overall situation, and some would expect M-1 to be one of those turning their nose at the news.

Not so says M-1 Global’s Evgeni Kogan who spoke to MMAWeekly.com, telling them that they have no issues with the deal as Fedor is under contract to Showtime and not Strikeforce.

“Fedor’s contract is with Showtime Networks Inc. and we’re excited to be working with such a premium North American outlet. The purchase of Strikeforce doesn’t affect M-1 at all. Our TV deal is with Showtime and we’re happy. It’s business as usual for M-1 Global as we close into our March 25 event.”

M-1 Global Says No Negotiations For Fedor vs. Hendo Bout Have Taken Place

Well fight fans it appears that negotiations to put a fight together between Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko (32-3, 1NC) and Dan Henderson (27-8) have not taken place according to M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan.

Fedor_training_09Well fight fans it appears that negotiations to put a fight together between Russian fighter Fedor Emelianenko (32-3, 1NC) and Dan Henderson (27-8) have not taken place according to M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan.

Kogan confirmed the news with MMAjunkie.com on Wednesday, noting “There have been no discussions with us. Any discussions have been solely on the other side of the Atlantic.”

Talk of a possible matchup surfaced among the media after Henderson’s victory this past weekend over Rafael “Feijão” Cavalcante for the Strikeforce light heavyweight title in Columbus, Ohio. In an interview after the event Henderson was asked if fighting Fedor would interest him he responded “it would be a huge challenge.”

Fedor is coming off the third loss of his career, just his second real defeat, at the hands of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on Feb. 12 in their opening quarterfinal bout of the Strikeforce Heavyweight World Grand Prix tournament. The loss, coupled with his previous submission defeat to Fabricio Werdum, have many questioning his validity as a heavyweight in the current pool of larger fighters. Many fans and media have called for a move by the Russian to 205 lbs where his size more closely matches that of the opponents in that division.

This doesn’t mean that a possible fight between Henderson and Fedor won’t happen, just expect the negotiations to take their usual length of time when dealing with M-1 Global, if the fight is to happen.
