Last night (Sat. July 20, 2019) Manny Pacquiao pulled off an impressive feat by handing undefeated 30-year-old Keith Thurman the first loss of his career.

Pacquiao, 40, defeated Thurman after 12 rounds of championship boxing. It was a truly stunning performance from the Philippine, who is the new WBA welterweight champion of the world. After the bout, many began to speculate what will be next for “Pac-Man.” Given he was in attendance for the fight, it was speculated a rematch with Floyd Mayweather could be next.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated after the fight, Pacquiao addressed a potential rematch with “Money.” Here’s what he had to say (via BJPenn.com):

“I don’t have an idea. My plan this time is one fight at a time. He’s in retirement and he’s enjoying his retirement. He’s inactive. If he’s willing to come back and willing to fight me, then at the time he will announce it, we can say yes.”

Pacquiao and Mayweather first fought back in May of 2015. The pair finally met after several years of buildup, going all 12 rounds for Mayweather’s unified welterweight titles. However, Mayweather remained undefeated when it was all said and done, taking home the victory with a unanimous decision.

It was subsequently revealed that Pacquiao fought with a torn rotator cuff. Fans have been clamoring for a rematch between the pair in which Pacquiao is fully healthy. Only time will tell if that will happen.

Headlining the FOX Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sat. July 20, 2019) was a WBA welterweight championship bout between Keith Thurmann and Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao was getting pressured by Thurman early on, and “One Time” was bringing the heat. However, “Pac Man” connected late and dropped Thurman to steal the round. Over the course of the fight, Pacquiao was the aggressor. Thurman held his own and landed some hard shots, getting in some blitzes as well that forced Pacquiao to stay against the ropes.

However, Pacquiao landed the bigger punches, was more aggressive, and was the overall better boxer throughout the night. The fight went all 12 rounds and was determined on the judges’ scorecards. The final results read 114-113 in favor of Thurman, and 115-112 and 115-112, in favor of Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao is now the new WBA welterweight champion of the world.

WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman called out boxing legend Floyd Mayweather for ducking him years ago.

Thurman defends his title against another legend in Manny Pacquiao this weekend in one of the biggest boxing fights of the year. There’s been talk that with a win over Thurman, Pacquiao could set up a lucrative rematch with Mayweather afterwards.

Thurman Says Mayweather Didn’t Want Real Fight

When asked what his thoughts on that were, Thurman questioned why “Money” doesn’t choose to face him instead:

“I think what I’ve always thought — why not me, Floyd?” Thurman said on TMZ. “Why not me? You never wanted to fight me? Come on now. I was right there, right underneath you. For years. I was the #1 contender of the WBA and then they made you super champion so that our names didn’t have to be in the same sentence together. Because a super champion does not have to fight a regular champion. I don’t have to fight Manny Pacquiao. There is no mandatories for a super champion. And the only super champion before me was Floyd Mayweather.

Obviously, Floyd fights for the money. The money team. It ain’t hard to figure people out. I don’t have to sit down and have a conversation. We don’t have to go to the club together. At the end of the day, I get the man. He about making that paper, man. But if he wanted a real fight, he would have saw me years ago.”

It’s not the first time Thurman referenced Mayweather ducking someone. When asked last year why he wasn’t facing Errol Spence Jr., “One Time” said that fight would eventually happen, adding that he wasn’t Mayweather. The implication being Mayweather chooses the right time to face his opponents instead of during their prime.

Pacquiao vs. Thurman takes place July 20 at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
