Crisp and brutal striking once again proved key to success for Ignacio Bahamondes, as he scored a first-round finish while competing on the preliminary card of UFC 306.

Bahamondes managed to drop opponent Manuel Torres earlier in the first round and followed up with ground-and-pound, but Torres managed to survive and throw up his guard.

Torres returned to his feet and lunged forward with his counter attack. That proved to be his downfall, however, as Bahamondes landed another cracking right hand, finishing the fight from there.

Ignacio Bahamondes Impresses With Another First-Round Finish At The Sphere

Bahamondes has now won five of six fights since dropping his last contest in 2021. Bahamondes entered the UFC off a brutal knockout of Edson Gomez during the 2020 season of Dana White’s Contender Series.

Torres, a DWCS alum in his own right, suffers his first Octagon defeat and sees a six-fight win streak snapped. He had entered tonight’s fight off a quick submission of Chris Duncan in February.

Manuel Torres earned his fifth-straight first-round knockout at UFC Vegas 75, landing a perfectly-timed elbow strike that immediately sent his opponent crashing to the canvas.

Torres walked into the bout with a significant amount of hype, given his penchant for first-round finishes. Putting away Frank Camacho in his promotional debut, Torres added another name to his hit list on Saturday night after sending his opponent to la la land with a brilliantly placed elbow in the opening round. Less than two minutes into the contest, Torres was putting pressure on his opponent, Nikolas Motta, when Motta feigned a short right. Seeing a perfect opportunity to counter, Torres unleashed a left elbow that hit Motta right on the button and immediately rendered him unconscious.

Torres followed his opponent to the ground and delivered a couple of brutal yet unnecessary hammer fists before referee Herb Dean could step in and call for the stoppage.

Official Result: Manuel Torres def. Nikolas Motta via KO (elbow) at 1:50 of Round 1.

Katlyn Chookagian and Amanda Ribas put on one of the best fights of 2022 and were paid for their efforts following UFC Vegas 54.

Chookagian defeated Ribas via split decision on the UFC Vegas 54 main card. It was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish and both fighters took home ‘Fight of the Night’ $50k bonuses following the event.

Chookagian, the No. 1 flyweight contender and a former title challenger, could get the next title shot against the Valentina Shevchenko/Taila Santos winner. She recently signed a new contract after entering free agency following her last win over Jennifer Maia.

Chookagian vs. Ribas wasn’t the only standout performance on the card. In the UFC Vegas 54 co-main event, light heavyweight Ryan Spann earned a statement win by choking out veteran Ion Cutelaba midway through the first round.

Spann has now won three of his last five fights despite losses to Johnny Walker and Anthony Smith. He earned a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for his victory.

The other POTN bonus went to UFC debuting Manuel Torres, who earned a vicious first-round knockout of Frank Camacho following a series of wild exchanges.

Torres earned a shot in the UFC after an impressive showing on Dana White’s Contender Series last October, with a first-round knockout of Kolton Englund. He’s now won four straight fights.
