The experience of Marcin Tybura ultimately proved to be too much for Jhonata Diniz at Saturday’s UFC 309 pay-per-view, as the veteran heavyweight took the victory following a doctor’s stoppage after two rounds.

The previously undefeated prospect had a strong start when he appeared to catch Tybura in the opening seconds of the fight, stunning him. The fight ended up going to the ground, where Diniz tried to work and get the finish. A leg-lock submission attempt, however, saw the Polish contender end his offensive attack and take top control for the remainder of the round.

Tybura brought even more intensity with seconds left in the second frame, working his way into full mount and landing some nasty elbows that busted Diniz wide open.

The doctor would not allow Diniz to continue into the third round, forcing the TKO win.

Tybura has won two of four and four of his last six now.

Meanwhile, this marked Diniz’s first loss in professional MMA. He and Derrick Lewis were scheduled to face off at UFC Edmonton earlier this month before Lewis was pulled from the card one day before the event.

Prior to tonight, Diniz, an alumnus of Dana White’s Contender Series, defeated Austen Lane and Karl Williams in the Octagon.

Serghei Spivac taps out Marcin Tybura

Serghei Spivac made it an early night inside The APEX, scoring a big first-round submission victory over Marcin Tybura in the UFC Vegas 95 headliner.

Things got started early with Spivac landing a nice right hand. Tybura fired back with a calf kick prompting Spivac to shoot in and secure a quick takedown against the fence. Spivac attempted to take Tybura’s back but failed to do so. That allowed Tybura to reverse position and put Spivac on his back.

From the bottom, Spivac snatched Tybura’s arm and locked in a slick armbar that forced Tybura to verbally tap out before they’d even reached the halfway point of the round.

Fight Night Backlash: UFC fans criticize event: ‘Card is actually horrific’

WIth the Octagon landing in the United States this weekend following a quickfire salvo in the Middle East – the promotion’s UFC Vegas 98 has been hit with it’s vast share of criticizm, for an apparent card lacking real star power.

Returning to the Apex facility – the promotion will host a 10-fight card in ‘Sin City’ – with a rehashed heavyweight rematch booked to headline between two European talents.

Fans revolt over UFC Vegas 98 card

Attempting to work his way back to contention, Polish veteran, Marcin Tybura matches with Moldova prospect, Serghei Spivac – in search of his second win over the former, having previously landed a unanimous decision win over four years ago.

In the night’s co-main event, a bantamweight matchup between one-time main event feature, Chris Gutierrez, and Javid Basharat had fallen to the wayside, with Quang Le co-headlining against Gutierrez on short-notice.

Further down the admittedly lacklustre main card comes a matchup between former featherweight title challenger, Yana Santos, who takes on Chelsea Chandler – fresh from her own weight miss in her return to 135lbs.

And with just Santos holding prior title fight merit on the entire card – fans across the board have pointed to a potential snoozefest in the making for UFC Vegas 98 – even with a slightly earlier start time for North American and European viewers.

“Oh my I just looked and that card is actually horrific,” A user posted on X.

“The card lost Kinoshita too right? Kinda of unwatchable this Saturday but they gave us a solid 304 card, a great Abu Dhabi FN and loads of announcements recently its a good weekend to take off from UFC ahead of 305 week.”

“Welp, that was the only great fight.”

“10 fight card big yikes.”

“Yeah, this card is a pass.”

“Well that’s decided then, I shall not be watching the fights.”

Following this past weekend’s event in Abu Dhabi, the Octagon is set to return to the UFC Apex this Saturday for another Fight Night event.

Top ten heavyweights are set to meet in the main event as Serghei Spivac and Marcin Tybura run it back, following their first encounter over four years ago.

However, it was another fight on the card that many were singling out as the one to watch on August 10 in Las Vegas.

Co-main event billing was set to go to a bantamweight clash between Chris Gutierrez and Javid Basharat, a match-up that certainly stuck out on paper.

Both were looking to bounce back from losses in their last outings to try and push themselves towards the top 15 at 135 pounds.

Unfortunately, as reported by Alex Behunin, the fight is now off and the reaction from the fans on social media certainly points towards this being the bout that people were tuning in for.

“Well that’s decided then, I shall not be watching the fights”

“Well there goes that card”

“Bro come on that was the only good fight on the card”

At this current time, it hasn’t been reported why the fight has been cancelled and what amendments will be made to the card as a result.

Marcin Tybura taps Tai Tuivasa in exciting heavyweight headliner - UFC Vegas 88 Highlights

Marcin Tybura and Tai Tuivasa delivered a short, but entertaining main event at UFC Vegas 88 on Saturday night.

Stepping into the Octagon looking to climb back into the win column, Tybura faced some early adversity as Tuivasa let his hands go from the get-go. Already bleeding from a well-placed elbow, the Polish powerhouse was determined to close the distance and put his ground game to work. Tybura did exactly that, backing Tuivasa to the cage wall and eventually taking down the big man.

Once on the mat, it was just a matter of time before Tybura would sink in a choke. With less than a minute to go, Tybura cinched his arm under the chin of Tuivasa and squeezed, forcing tap out with 52 seconds left in the opening round.

Official Result: Marcin Tybura def. Tai Tuivasa via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:08 of Round 1.
