Marlon Moraes has a big goal in mind following his latest win.

As seen in the main event of Friday’s (June 1, 2018) UFC Utica event that aired on FOX Sports 1 at Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York, Moraes was able to finish top contender Jimmie Rivera by strikes after landing a huge head kick to win the bantamweight headliner.

After the fight, the former WSOF champion made it clear that he is not interested in any other fights except for one that involves the UFC bantamweight title.

“I really don’t want any other fight,” Moraes (21-6-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) said backstage at the event (transcript courtesy of MMAJunkie). “I want to fight for the belt. I’m definitely waiting. I want to be a champion,” he said. “That’s it.”

Moraes continued by stating that he expects UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw to defeat former champ and rival Cody Garbrandt in the main event of the upcoming UFC 227 pay-per-view event.

Although he doesn’t have a preference over whom he fights (the winner of this fight), he just wants it to be for the title.

“We just do the same job,” he said. “We build up the fight, and everybody wanted to watch, and thank God I won.”

“I’m going to go back home and train,” Moraes said. “That was a fight, and like I said before the fight, matchups make fighters. I fought him, and the way I beat him, that was the way somebody who deserves to fight for the title should perform.”

The UFC 227 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Video: Jimmie Rivera & Marlon Moraes Camps Involved In Altercation After UFC Utica

Things got heated following this event.

There was an incident between both Jimmie Rivera and Marlon Moraes camps following UFC Utica.

It was well known coming into this fight that there was some beef between both fighters as well as their teams and that beef led into their fight at the most recent UFC event.

As seen in the main event of Friday’s (June 1, 2018) UFC Utica event that aired on FOX Sports 1 at Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York, Moraes was able to finish Rivera by strikes after landing a huge head kick to win the bantamweight headliner.

After the fight, Moraes’ manager, Ali Abdelaziz, seemed to extend peace to Rivera by writing the following on his official Twitter account:

“Nothing but respect for Jimmy Rivera and his family. Without a doubt one of the best fighters in the world. Keep your head up champ. You’ll be back stronger.”

What’s interesting is the fact that Rivera was interviewed by the FS1 crew backstage at the arena following the fight and cameras were able to capture an altercation between Rivera, his wife, and another person, who appeared to be Abdelaziz.

Rivera attempted to downplay the situation during an interview with Laura Sanko when asked about the incident as well as the fight.

“It’s not really, there’s no tension between (Moraes) and I,” Rivera said (transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie). “There’s no tension with the camps. It’s just his management. His manager keeps running his mouth, and it is what it is. We let it go.”

It should be noted that before this bantamweight showdown, Rivera had gone on record by stating that he had no problems with Moraes but rather with Abdelaziz. Rivera and Moraes have trained together in the past.

The UFC was in Utica, New York last night (Fri. June 1, 2018) for UFC Fight Night 131 with some great fights for the mixed martial arts (MMA) community to enjoy.

In the co-main event of the evening, Gregor Gillespie solidified himself as a lightweight prospect to keep your eye on after a dominant performance over Vinc Pichel; which resulted in a second round submission win via arm triangle.

The main event saw Marlon Moraes make quick work of Jimmie Rivera in just 30 seconds with another nasty head kick. He definitely now has a claim to a shot at the 135-pound title.
